dyersburg's future - counce

there has been some rumors floating that dyesburg's skipper james counce may be retiring soon...

although counce has never won a state championship, he is more known for tutoring and producing 2 or 3 head coaches over the years that has won numerous state championships...in his 7 years at dyersburg, he is averaging about a 75% win ratio....

recently, i was called to come by the middle school to see the 7th graders completing spring practice with a scrimmage against milan......

the current 7th grade team "O" and "D" line averaged 235lbs.... dyersburg has always had speed, they just did not have size.... this team is the biggest that i have seen, and just as quick as some of the quickest that i have seen...the last two years the middle school teams have compiled a record of 18-2.....this may be a sign of some good times ahead... it appears that the full contact youth league that started three years ago is getting more kids coming out for the middle and high school team....

so what about coach counce...... i spoke with him at a recent multi-county football weight lifting meet and asked if had seen his future trojans....with that little smirk he reported "yep"..... asked if he was going to retire soon, and he reported with the same smirk "nope"....

hmmmmmmm?

Tradition will win out over facilities. Make no mistake about it, IF Coach Counce were to leave, he would leave it in good hands.

His current assistants are top notch. He has two great young coaches in Harrison and Byars, and people would be lined up out the door to get that job IF it were to come open.

beave what are you talking about dyer county high school has a long history of winning. Of the two high schools in this county Dyer co is the only one that has a state championship in football not the great almighty Trojans. So if you want to look at tradition then you need to get your facts strait. I know that dyer co has had a few bad years but overall dyer co has had more winning football teams than dyersburg could imagine

By the way, when was that State Championship anyway?

Stick to something you guys have just recently learned about.........basketball. You talk about winning tradition in football, wasn't last year the first time in like, 23 years, that Dyer Co. beat Dyersburg in football?

Get back on the basketball board were you belong. We are talking successful football over here!! :)

just a lil fact, dyersburg and dyer county did not play each other in a game for 70 yrs. they met again in 2001 at dyersburg with dyer co winning 14-12. in 2002 the trojans avenged that loss with a good win over the choctaws in their season opener and first game at the new stadium.

they did however play in the jamboree some but that was the only time they met during that 70 year abscence.

    • Upperman White County both will be loaded. Dyersbirg and South Side will be a handful as well. Getting about that time in about 3 weeks we start watching summer scrimmages. Dyersburg loaded loaded loaded with talent. Most talent ever I have seen in their program.
    • We, SP, blanked them 10-0 in sectional game during 21 season.
    • The amount of people pooing on UH is crazy. They're a noticably better team than last year when they made state and were competitive , AND they run ruled Eagleville a few weeks ago. Now I understand Eagleville was missing a few guys, but they still. They. Run. Ruled. Eagleville. 1st single A team to run rule Eagleville since when? Pre 2017??
    • If that Yellow Paint is all gone I'll flat bet it didn't wash off there. I bet that took some scrubbing to remove that if it is gone. Lacrosse is one of those northern sports all these misplaced Yankee's that are posion to the community brought in by  (Blount Partnership, ( The Devil) with them so somebody allowed them to paint their markings on the field that cost more than the twenty top people on payroll at Maryville make a year. All this to please the 1% Club and the 25 people that would come to see it. All in the name of WOKE!!!!!!
