FYI: (article from local paper)

HBO to spotlight Maynard

From Staff Reports

Collins Hill wrestler Kyle Maynard, who won his matches Saturday at 103 pounds in the Area 8-AAAAA Duals, will be featured on an upcoming episode of the HBO television program, Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.

Camera crews taped wrestling footage and conducted interviews for the story on Saturday at the area duals, held at Parkview High School. Crews have followed Maynard the previous few days during his practices and his daily life.

Maynard, who wrestles despite being born without fully developed arms and legs, has been an inspiration for the Collins Hill community since he wrestled and played football in youth leagues.

The episode of Real Sports featuring Maynard will air Tuesday, January 20 at 10 p.m. For more information on the show, check the Web at www.hbo.com.

RMC,"kdxdude" taped Maynard at the Cleveland duals and showed it to some people we both know and man they were impressed. These guys are not even fans and they are talking about taping the HBO show and showing it to others. What a great ambassador for the sport. I also saw him at the Cleveland duals and wish my son was older so I could use him as an example of what wrestling is all about. When I saw him wrestle I saw no handicap just another wrestler with one great desire to compete. By the way the match I saw he won by pin.

Words won't do him justice. You just gotta see it to believe it. There's not one ounce of "quit" in that boy. On top of that he's one heck of a nice, fine young man.

My goodness!! I knew wrestling was good in Georgia for years but Collin Hills? I wonder how they rank? Isn't Bradley taking on the number one team, Parker something?

Thanks Ross for this report on Collin Hills you sent me below:

Hey we wrestled Franklin this year at the Cleveland Duals. We beat them 51 - 18 and wrestled 6 JV kids.

:)

Our 145 pounder won the National Championship and is pretty tough. We lost to Bradley, but again we had 6 JV kids in the lineup. beat Dobbins Bennett (64 – 15) and Christian Brothers (48 – 21). The only Tennessee team we’ve ever lost to is Bradley. We beat McCallie this year too.

JV kids wrestled because we’ve got a ton of injuries right now. 119 – Knee surgery…be back this Friday (2nd in State as a 9th grader last year), 160 – shoulder, 189 – shoulder, and 171 – flu.

Our 103 pounder doesn’t have any arms or legs either.

Fabulous Story!!

    • Im asking everyone to keep roy whited and his family in your prayers. Coach whited won back to back state championships at white county in 98-99. He is very well liked and respected in this area. For those of you that dont know he went missing 3 days ago. No one knows where he is. His truck was found in a rural part of the county. Thanks again. We are all very concerned.
    • West would be a good team to get behind if they can pull it off again like last year. That championship game last year was awesome.
    • I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.
    • I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!
    • Rudesell 1 year at Crockett. Coach Tate 2 weeks a Bradford. South Gibson supposedly going with jcs middle school coach. Which isn’t who I thought would get it, I know the top 2 was between him and Obion girls head coach.
