Bradley Bearettes

Just a tip of the cap to the Bradley Bearettes and their strong showing so far this season. Seems like ole Jack has his best team at Bradley so far. Their 11-4 record shows losses to some of the very best in the state.

1) Riverdale (12-4)

2) Wilson Central (13-1)

3) Oak Ridge (13-3) a loss that they avenged just this week

4) Sevier County (13-0)

Look for all of these teams to be ranked when the first AP polls come out next week.

Good luck at Hoover on Saturday night.

baconbreath,

you are correct, a tip of the cap to the young ladies from Cleveland. I noticed you comment about avenging the loss to Oak Ridge. Seemed it was more of revenge than anything after the comments Coach Harlow made after the game. I have been watching girls HS ball for more years than I can to mention and I have never seen anything like it. It seemed way out of character for Coach Harlow. Don't know if you were there, but if you were, I think you know what I am referring to. Oak Ridge has nothing but respect for the Bradley team and Jack and really do not understand what prompted his actions. Oh well, I guess a person hangs around long enough and they will see it all. Good luck to Bradley Central the rest of the season.

Hey Papati,

Yeah, I was there for the game and sat behind the Bradley bench. I saw Jack gesturing to the crowd after the game and saying something but I couldn't hear what it was.

Anyway, it was a tremendous win for the Bearettes in a tough tournament. Oak Ridge has a great tradition and program under Jill and they are a nemesis to the Bearettes. Jack's record against the Lady Cats is now 2-8 at Bradley Central after this win breaking a five game losing streak.

Congrats to two of the best programs in the state for one of the best girls games I've seen in a long time. It was a thriller and these two will play again on 02/19 to close out the regular season at Oak Ridge.

I don't think this year's team is his best. We had a great team back in 2001. District and Region champs! Three of those senior girls are still playing college ball. It's a two dog race in Region 3....Cleveland and Bradley. I'll personally make sure Papa Harlow is ready for the Lady Raiders. He's having a great season! Two second place finishes in tournaments. Good year so far! Great year if they can get the district and region championship. Excellent Season if he can get that win in sub-state and earn that trip to Murfeesboro! Only time will tell!

I really don't feel that Bradley will have alot of trouble with Cleveland, unless they have an off night.

I agree that it was a great game. None the less, if he is 2-8 or 8-2, that is no reason to act the way he did. Jack is better than that.

I hope that have a great season and take it all in the boro.

The Bearettes played great in the Greenville Tournament! They are getting better all the time. Beating Oak Ridge was real exciting for the girls because this is the first time in 3 years we have beat them. Harlow was beside himself but he wasnt' downing Oak Ridge at all. He knows how good a team they are. It was just an exciting win. I thot the girls played well with Sevier County. Sevier was shooting better and that's why they won. Tina & Mel were hot and did an awesome job...Anyone who has been following the Bearettes know that they are improving and it interesting to see where they will be in March. They have the potential to be in State and Harlow knows that. Go Bearettes!!

Bearettefan,

What I heard from Coach Harlow was uncalled for and it was downing Oak Ridge and Coach Harlow was out of control. Maybe you didn't hear what I heard. Anyway, it was a great game and a well deserved win for Bradley. No doubt that they have the potential to be in the Boro, but the Greeneville tournament was not the State tournament. When you win it all, that is the time to be excited. It is a long hard road and the only objective at this point should be to try and improve each and every night out. Heres hoping that Jack can get his emotions under control because this team will need him down the stretch.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
