New Soddy-Daisy Coach

TribeFan, in the Hamilton County School "community" there are no selection committees. Certain schools are run as a dictatorship and from what I've seen Soddy is one of them. I will not mention any others for my own personal safety. Of course it is the principal's job to do the hiring, but you'd think for a position such as this others would be included.

And don't even think about using the phrases "no politics" and "hamilton county education" in the same thought!

Gradfromthenest thanks for enlighting me on how things work in the Hamilton Co. school system. It sure does leave the door open for alot of finger pointing and good old boy networking.

I suppose none of this matters until someone in your county finally decides to stand up and challange the current methods that are being used.

Also let me say I think coach Weathers is a good coach and will build on what coach Ryan left behind, I just think the entire process that SD used reaks of politics and the good old boy method.

Good luck to coach Weathers and to the SD football team.

Well.......Let me see if I can clear some things up. There was a committee, who interviewed the finalists and made a recomedation to the principle. Coach Weathers came into the process late. The principle and Weathers both played at Chattanooga, but I think at different times. The principle coached under Weathers at Red Bank for a while. I don't know if Scott Smith even made the finalists list or not, considering that Fritz, Mullinax, Jones, and then Weathers applied for the job. Yes the principle knew Weathers before, sometimes that's a good thing, you know what your getting. If any school had the ability to pick from a list of legends for a coach, what do you think they would do? If any school could hire a guy who has had a field named after him, what would they do? Your school would hire him, period, end of story. I supported Coach Smith from the begining because I think he is an excellent coach, but when you see the list of applicants, how can you be supprised at the choice.

Now before jumping to any conclusions, I am not saying this particular situation is how I said "the county" is....but TribaFan, you used the exact terminology I was thinking of: "good ole boy method." Seen that way too much in my years in the county...but I guess that's the real world As unfortunate as it may be, money and politics run the world.

You can form all the commitees you want, but if I am applying for a head coaching job and hired by a commitee, I would want to make darn sure I am the principals number one choice. I don't think I would want to work under any other situation. If you were in the profession of education and coaching I think you would understand what I am saying.

From my experience I'd rather have a good relationship and support from my fans, players, coaches, fellow teachers, and player's parents. All of those is important for a successful program. I've seen many occasions where the princpal and/or the coach was not held in high regard by each other and it worked out fine as long as they both go about their business.

I am not disagreeing with you, I am just saying I am not going to coach somewhere were the principal doesn't want me, it is just a bad situation from the start.

    • I believe that was last year. I was interested in the Jones vs Baker comment, so I went back and looked at GC. I am not a fan of either nor am I a baseball guru. This looks like to me the duel was not close and if the errors would not have been made Eagleville would have won. I assume you are a little biased. I do think your mph for Jeffcoat and Baker must be from last year.  Baker-85 pitches 67 strikes. 5.2 innings, 5H, 1BB, 0ER and 7K's. 3 errors  Jones- 78 pitches 37 strikes. 4 innings, 2H, 5BB, 0ER and 1K. 1 error   Adams and the UH kid are really good as well. What about South Pitt and Oakdale? I heard they have some good ones.
    • I hate this for all the kids in the program and fans alike. I can't recall of anything like this before in my lifetime but I'm sure it isn't a first. After criminal investigations are complete and the TSSAA looks into this the program it will be facing Nuclear Winter for some time to come. It's always the innocent left behind that end up paying the price for something someone else has done. I'm sure the transfer portal will be very active in Clinton over the summer months. How could you find a good coach worth his salt that would take on a situation like this not knowing what will happen.
    • I’ve seen Jeffcoat in person twice and he was 84-87 both times and the one time I saw Baker he was low 80’s, he actually got out dueled by Jones from ER in that outing.
    • Pirate fans, thread is up on the baseball message board.
