This mornings Tennessean has a great article about wrestling in the lower weights. It begins with a highlight of Whitt Dunning and speaks to several coaches and other wrestlers. What a wonderful thing to see a color picture and front page coverage for some atheletes who rarely get the spotlight. Plus the did it right starting with my beloved Irish and THE WHITT!!!

Holy cow Batman! Someone at the Tennessean actually found time to do an article on wrestling. The devil must be wearing a parka this morning to ward off the freezing temperatures down below. What's next? Might they actually cover a match? Will we now see scores in the paper instead of half of a page of "Transactions" telling us who on every pro sports team is injured or is being waived or traded? Don't hold your breath.

But it is a nice article about how wrestling provides a sport for the "little guys" who suddenly find themselves too small in high school for some of the other sports they have been playing. In addition to a picture and some good quotes from irishdad's favorite wrestler, the article mentions and has quotes from other wrestlers and coaches at Overton, MBA, Cookeville and BA. The visual of little John Mike Simpson at tailback for his middle school football team was interesting. Recommended reading over this morning's cup of coffee or ham and egg biscuit.

Yep....I agree Buck L...I sure miss the days of Tom Squires. He was so good for the sport of wrestling as a young sports reporter at THE TENNESSEAN. Tom always made time to keep wrestling in the spot light at THE TENNESSEAN in the early years before moving to Florida and working for a paper there. (he's back in town and has been for several years, I still miss him though) We need to all be thankful for THE NASHVILLE CITY PAPER for they do a good job keeping the town informed with the goings on in high school RASSLIN.....Hey TENNESSEAN! You DO have an audience that still cares about this sport....get with the times! (but hey...thanks for todays article :)

someone in Nashville should e-mail the linkto these posts to the sports editor at that paper. Just a suggestion.

With all due respect, do you really think that 3 people complaining about lack of coverage will influence them? The tennessean isn't stupid, if they thought it would pay off to cover this sport better they would. And if they thought there were enough people who cared about the sport then they would cover it better. Bottom line is that wrestling is like the x-games, only the people involved really care what is happening in the sport. The only reason to publish any results would be so that each wrestler could see his name in little tiny words on the back page of the sports section.

I agree,,,I just think it is funny for people who love this sport (like me), that complain about the coverage so friggin' much. Stop complaining and do something. Shoot, write the article yourself and submit it to the sport editor. Tell them you will provide it for your favorite team all year long. But to come on here and cry about it is funny at best.

Gosh, take control of what you wish for and do something to make it happen.

Okay, I am done now.

    • You wanna talk about zoned for Bearden.  Lol.  I don't think so.  But my point was who can blame a kid for not wanting to be in a private school.  Nobody is zoned for a private school, it's a free country right?
    • Great win for the Pirates. State Tourney bound !
    • You're talking about the running back, right? I don’t believe he was zoned for west, but there were numerous players that came from TKA a few years ago and still are. I’m sure some are, but the majority aren’t.
    • Gratitude abounds for Blake Satterfield, whose five-year tenure as the head coach and exemplary ambassador for Trousdale County and its educational system has left an indelible mark. His strategic leadership during playoff seasons was nothing short of remarkable. Anticipating that his future endeavors will be equally impressive.  Perhaps the board members will refrain from undermining the incoming coach as they did in Blake's case.
    • Yeah that's true, I was talking more about football.  If you go to a TKA game, there's nobody there.  The only people there are the parents of cheer and parents of players.    The kid that left and came to West was zoned for West and decided to quit private and go public school.  He won two state championships at West, so hard to blame him there.
