ELA
There is an older thread about this same question. Here are the facts: 1. Most rural public schools pay their assistant coaches between $1500 and 2500 a year plus their teaching salary. These are 10 month contracts even though most coaches work 11 months. 2. The better school districts pay a percentage of your base teachers salary (.08 to .15%). This can make the supplement between $2000 and $5000 depending on how much you make to begin with. 3. Head football coaches earn from a low of $3000 in the smaller systems to over $15,000 in some areas. I know of a few men who earn a lot more but they are usually head coaches in a private school who also serve as principal, headmaster, etc. 4. Some school systems pay a bonus for things like going to the playoffs or winning the region. Most Georgia systems pay their head coaches and a few assistant coaches on an 11 or 12 month contract! aj1133
Sumner County schools pay head basketball 10% and assistant 5% of teaching salary , unless you have been teaching 50 years your making single digit pennies an hour.

swanson71
Coaches are underpaid...they need to be paid more...if they are a good coach and you pay them enough...I think they are more than likely to stay around...
Pudding
yes. they are underpaid. if u figured out how much they make per hour considering the huge hours most put in, i bet it wouldn't be a lot. i have to believe many coaches dont do it for the $$$, but for the love of the game
tigers28
Some coaches do not even deserve the pay they get, while others deserve 10x more. You don't have to have a winning record to decide this. Look at the character of the players after being coached by this person. That should tell you if more money is neccessary.
