Results from Saturday in the 6AA district tournament at Hixson:

Grundy County 6

East Ridge 5

The Grundy-East Ridge game was kind of sloppy, I think East Ridge had 4 or 5 errors, but were ahead 5-2 until the 4th when the Grundy 1st baseman, Melton, knocked in 2 runs and an East Ridge error on the same play tied it. Grundy finally went ahead in the same inning. Woodlee came in and got the save and pitched well.

Hixson 2

Marion County 1

Hixson only had 2 hits, both in the 1st inning, a Josh Green single and a Jake McClure homerun (his first of the year, Hixson has 40 as a team for the year), but Dane Bolton made it stand up allowing only 1 hit to a very good Marion County team. Dane got the complete game win.

Tournament continues Monday with East Ridge/Marion County at 4:30 and Hixson and Grundy County at 7:00.

East Ridge/Marion County:

East Ridge has gotten better since Hixson played them earlier in the season. However, I don't think they've gotten better than Marion. Marion saved what I believe is their best pitcher, Layne, and I'm sure he'll throw for Marion. I'll take Marion County in this one.

Grundy County/Hixson:

I'm sure that Grundy County will throw Woodlee in this game. The good thing for the 'Cats is that they hit hard throwers a whole lot better than finesse-type pitchers (just look at the Marion County game for proof). Woodlee threw the last 3 innings against East Ridge and looked good. To his credit, he stayed for the Marion/Hixson game and watched the entire game. Smart kid.

Hixson will probably counter with Brett Smalley. Brett is a very good pitcher, throws hard (not as hard as Bolton) and varies his speed well on off speed stuff. Hixson's due to break out with the bats after the last game's power outtage, so (big surprise here!) I'll take Hixson in this one.

And by the way, I love Grundy's 1st baseman, he is what high school baseball is all about!

    • Starting to pick up for Sam. He has 4 or 5 offers now and more on the way. By mid season the Warriors should have 5 or 6 kids with offers.
    • Gleason all over west Carroll in scrimmage. Gleason is big and fast
    • Defending 2A state Champs Westview Lady Chargers are pretty tough. They lost a bunch of production off last year's squad but returned some talent as well. They still McCall Simms, a Tennesseee Lady Vol softball commit as well as solid talent around the diamond. I dont think they are as good as last season but they will definitely be a tough out. Huntingdon Lady Mustangs seem to be pretty stout as well. Don't know much about Riverside other than Westview defeated them earlier in regions. West Tennessee softball is pretty solid all around id say.
    • Eagleville couldn’t catch up to Jones, he did have his location issues but in that game Eagleville popped up everything and the one hit they did have could have been ruled an error. Jeffcoat was a lot sharper in the beginning of the season last year than the end. ER ran out of pitching and still was in striking distance but none the less the better team one. Last seasons tournament was A LOT more balanced and talented. South Pitts starter is a Lefty who was low 80’s but couldn’t maintain his velo throughout the  outing, their #2 was more impressive last year, we knocked him around this year and his mph was down some. Their #3 isn’t bad neither, throws a lot of strikes and sits high 70’s.
