mww02
all these people who act so surprised that usn is playing for a state championship today are just foolish. USN soccer (as well as most usn sports) is always a competator in DII and any given season could win a tournament. This soccer team should not be surprising anyone. It has plenty of star power(Thomas Hoover, Patrick McHugh, etc) as well as one of the scrappiest defenses in the league. And Paul Fuchs, who just started playing goalie this year, has been on fire in the second half of the season continuing up until now. As a usn student i've enjoyed watching all of the nay-sayers eat there words on this site as almost everyone predicted the Tigers to lose in both rounds. Perhaps you all will learn from your past errors and predict usn to win state today, which they will. holla
tnfc007
it doesnt help when you get anihilated by BGA 8-1 in a tournament game...? Patrick mchugh is one of the best players in the state but im not sure if anyone else deserves as much recognition except perhaps their goalie who i watched at the cbhs game do very well. firstyearfan04
I think what's happening here is a surprise to everyone: I don't think the players expected to get this far. They have had this talent all season, all they needed was the mindset and the drive, which they have... Yesterday's game was borderline sloppy, USN's guys were getting a little violent when faced with trying to keep that lead... Kudos to Paul Fuchs (keeper) who was able to deflect a LOT of shots on goal that slipped by the defense. Good luck, tigers!
USNdefense
USN defiately has yet to play up to their potential. the players all feel that yesterday was a horrible showing in terms of their performance. Maybe tomorow they can step it up and give MUS a little show. GO TIGERS!
PSAFOUR
USN is a nice team, but I have to saythis is definately surprising. We (McCallie) beat them 3-0 in a scrimmage and it could have been worse. If you had told me after that game that this team would be in the finals I would have laughed at you. I would have guessed maybe a third seed in the west, but no more. I am very, very surprised to see USN here. What would you guess the shot cuont was in the Catholic game. soccerpro1
couldn't have been worse than when kc beat mcc 3 years ago. shot count was million to 1 but 1 went in and million didn't.

I would say that knox had more shots , but they didnt have very many dangerous shots. I saw all but the first five minutes of the game and pauly was only really tried once that I saw. most of the others were either to high or too wide. asdfasdf
i don't know the shot count in that game but the shout count in the CBHS game was 24-5. USN is not a very suprising team. they are what you call lucky. each game they were dominated. espeacially CBHS game when they crossed half field three time in the thirty minutes of overtime. but good luck anyways. you'll need it against MUS. they are looking to avenge last year's final lost. Irish17
shots on goal were somewhere around 10-5 in favor of catholic. While alot of them might not have been very dangerous, the time spent on USN's side of the field can describe the game somewhat. They had a very obvious gameplan coming in to the game to get alot of people behind the ball. Usually it was somewhere around 7 or 8 guys. When that many people are in the vicinity of the box its hard to score no matter how much possesion you have on a team. USN was very disciplined and I'd say will be a very tough team for MUS to beat if they play how they did against us. Congrats USN you earned this opportunity. mww02
USN is not a very suprising team. they are what you call lucky. each game they were dominated. ok. you can say that a team gets lucky in one game. but bottom line is usn has won multiple games(including the region tournament) against well qualified teams to get to the championship game. They had a rough season but clearly have peaked at the right time. your just a hater dude. usn is the realness and hopefully they will take out MUS and bring a state trophy back to nashville. there's no luck involved

almost_there
USN is a surprise in most sports - becuase in the midstate they have absoltely no respect in the region. They are seen as the non-football school with the least athletes. Many who have played against them in region, Ryan's, MBA's and BGA's (may not have got past BA in any sport yet) can tell you that their style is to sneek up on you when you play a bad game and take advantage. EVERY win in any sport is huge for them, and this goes for soccer. There was a turn around in athletics under Zaf Ahmed and Coach Gordin for soccer. Basketball gets closer and closer, Track gets better, lacrosse gets better, soccer, obviously, is at a state championship level. Anyone who knows USN probably knows this was coming. But like Switch says in "The Matrix" - "Not like this, Not like this." Good Luck to both MUS and USN - but being from a rival school of USN's - i never will think USN will win a state championship - 2-0 MUS
