Recommended Posts

The YOMCA 17 and under squad will be preparing for a national title run afer picking up 6'7 pg J.P Prince and 6'9 prep school bound All- American Shawne Williams and 6'8 Joseph Watkins of Hamilton. Add those three to the already talented front line of 6'10 Wayne Chism, 6'9 Thaddeous Young, and 6'7 Pierre Niles and the Y is preparing for yet another National title run. The Y will be in New Orleans this weekend for a tournament.

I have yet to see this team compete, and I didnt even know they had a team. They picked up those three players, but I was under the impression Young was playing 16's...I saw him playing for the MemphisHoopers 16s and now he's playing for a 17U that I didnt even know existed? Pierre was also playing 16s, did this 17 year old team just form?

there is a YOMCA 16s team that features willie, a center from Jackson, and Pierre...they also have James Hooper who graduated this year from BTW.

Williams might be eligible for 17s because seniors who are going to a prep school are eligible. I also believe that former WSHS Courtney Pigram is on this team...

They competed at the 17U substate as 16s coached by Easterwood, did they decide to move up? Thaddeous Young did not play for this team either at that point...he was still playing for hoopers...

    • A lot of people don’t realize how valuable JMO was. QB, safety, punter and holder on pat’s. Kid did it all. I fully believe if he was healthy Dburg would have made it to the ship last year.
    • If Dyersburg quarterback who is also starting safety hadn’t got hurt it would of another blowout
    • For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.  On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!  An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with counties with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!   I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!
    • They should be starting next week and go from there.  They never do Spring Practice in April
