Whats going on with the JCM Head Coach search? I heard that the bi-racial comittee of hiring (have you ever heard of such?) would have a heavy, if not final, say on who gets hired. What about every other HC position at JCM. Aren't they all vacant at this time? Whats going on in Jackson?

I heard they were told they could HAD to hire a man of color at most of the HC positions (Affirmative Action Plan at work). I guess it makes sense considering the makeup of the school? I hope they get the best man and not just the only man.

The situation at Jackson Central Merry is certainly one big mess. Hardegree leaves to go to USJ to be an assistant football coach and dean of students. It is certainly a step up for him. The baseball coach is run out of town by some parents in the booster club. The girls basketball coach resigned. She is married to the former baseball coach. They are both now at Trenton. And finally, the boys basketball coach has resigned and will be taking an administrative position in Whitesville. Something certainly amiss out at JCM.

 

Unfortunately, this bi-racial committee has decided to stick its nose into the fray. They are upset because there is not a black head coach of a football team in Madison County. Of course, they don't have one word to say about the fact that every single boys basketball head coach is black in the public high schools.

 

I would think that the bi-racial committee should be about fairness to all. Unfortunately, the only time that you here from this committee is when they want a black hired for a certain position. In my opinion, the bi-racial committee seems to be rather racist in its goals.

 

Personally, I could care less what color skin the coaches have. All I care about is that the best person is hired to fill the available positions regardless of color.

 

Never the less, when all of the head coaches of JCM's major sports resign within a few weeks of each other, that tells you that something is amiss over there. The real question is what is amiss and who is responsible for the situation? It's a real shame to see what is happening over at JCM. The ones who are being hurt are the kids. And they are the ones that we can't afford to hurt!

JUST A LITTLE LESS THAN A MONTH AGO, FORMER JCM HEAD FOOTBALL COACH JIM HARDEGREE ACCEPTED THE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR AND DEAN OF STUDENTS JOB AT USJ.

SINCE THEN JACKSON CENTRAL MERRY HAS BEEN ON A QUEST TO FIND HARDEGREE'S REPLACEMENT.

TONIGHT ABC-7 SPORTS HAS LEARNED WHO WILL BE REPLACING HARDEGREE.

CEDRIC Hampton, WHO'S A NATIVE OF TRENTON, HAS COACHED THE Dyersburg TROJAN DEFENSIVE LINE FOR THE PAST 9 SEASONS,,,, NOW Hampton WILL TAKE A RIDE DOWN HIGHWAY 412 AND SERVE AS THE NEW HEAD COACH FOR JCM'S FOOTBALL PROGRAM. HE IS THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN HEAD FOOTBALL COACH IN THE MADISON COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM.

I SPOKE WITH Hampton BY PHONE THIS EVENING, HE SAYS HE GOT THE CALL THIS MORNING FROM JCM OFFICIALS. HE SAYS HE'S EXCITED AND CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS SEASON TO GET UNDERWAY. HE AND HIS WIFE ARE DOING A LITTLE HOUSE HUNTING THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND HERE IN JACKSON.

Hampton WHO'S A DEFENSIVE SPECIALIST, WILL ENTER HIS 16TH SEASON AS A COACH, HIS FIRST AS A VARSITY COACH.
