Knoxville Central vs Clinton

A region 3-4A contest that is important for Central to win to keep pace with Maryville. Central comes off a bye week healthier than they have been for a while. It also starts the final run to the playoffs. Central has a brutal final 3 games with Halls, Maryville and Powell, so they can't overlook Clinton.

I was able to see the Clinton-Halls game last Friday. I know the scoreboard doesn't reflect it, but Clinton is a much improved team. The kids obviously worked hard over the summer to get in better condition. They played with more discipline and it looked like the coaches have a plan as to how they want to play. They also have more athletes on the field this year.

Let's hear some thoughts on this one.

I think Central wins BIG, The Dragons are catching the Bobcats at the worst time, because Central is coming off a bye week and they may be healthier than theyve been all year, especially defensively where Bubba Johnson should be 100% along with Defensive Tackle Corry Jeffries who is still 4th on the team in total tackles despite missing 2 1/2 games with a knee sprain. Jarius Bushe was the pre season starting middle guard and he is improving quickly from an ankle injury and may be ready to go soon. With these 3 players 100% the cats opponents should see a MUCH improved run defense. This one could get ugly but Coach Helton will probably play the reserves early and often, much like he did against Siegel.

This game will be OVER before the first quarter is. Just curious about something though medman. Did I hear you correctly say that Clinton has some athletes? If so, then obviously Halls must have just as many if not more judging by the score of the game a week ago. If not then maybe I read your first comment incorrectly. Thanks and score will be Central 52 Clinton 3

reddevil--let me clarify for you. Last year when Central played Clinton, they had had numerous kids leave the team or were injured. Kids like Dye and Phillips were not playing last year. My comment was simply comparing this year's Clinton team against last year's Clinton team.

Let me get your thoughts. Didn't you see a better Clinton team than last year's version. Again, I know the score wasn't close as Halls played pretty well, but I thought they looked like a different team.

Yes i said in the first quarter i can already be reading the paper and see Scott up for PrepXtra Player of the Week Nominations. Also reddevilfever if im correct Halls only outgained Clinton 260-231 yards in offense. It was just the stupid plays Clinton made that gave you all that big win, just like the option pitch that was taken for a score, that 1 play turned the whole momentum of the game and i truely believe it would have been alot closer of a game if Clinton scored on that first posession instead of being down 7-0 b/c of that pitch. And yes Clinton does have athletes but no line to block for them so it is kind of hard to make plays when your all by yourself.

    • Pickett is good, may have a Mr. Football like season if he’s used correctly. One of the best teams Marion has fielded in a while. I think they go 12-1 and loose to ER.  ER has better players at almost every position. If they play discipline this year, they win soundly. If they don’t though…Marion could sneak away with it.
    • I’m betting the house on the Indians. Pickett and Co will be the only team to challenge the Indians in the East. Huntingdon can in the West. I think Brooks goes 15-0 and has the first perfect season and state championship in ER history.
    • Sounds like a great opportunity has opened up for the football team.  With the head coach of the diamond rebels making it official and quitting this week, there should be some room for the gridiron guys to benefit. I assume the administration won’t continue paying six figures to two former coach that quit to continue teaching drivers Ed. Thats pretty good money that could be redirected toward the football program. Also, with the more recent policies of pushing kids to only play one sport, abolishing the baseball program altogether would help on Friday nights in the fall. There is some decent speed on that baseball team that should’ve been playing on Fridays IMO. I’m not sure if anybody would really miss that baseball program anyway with it being across town from the school. The liability of letting players actually use the facilities could also be mitigated with closing the program. That liability seems to be a really big issue for 825. Anyway, it seems like a great opportunity is available.
    • Yeah, I read about their spring blue/gray scrimmage after I typed that.   Sounds like a real mess over there.  I just hate that for 'em.  Haw
    • Maybe OR will be, but Farragut, nah, I don’t think anybody realizes how much of a bad situation that program is in currently. I’m sure they will build out of it, but the next 3 to 4 years are going to be a long climb up.
