atn301
While choosing, for some unknown reason, to spend my Friday evening at a Sequoyah Lady Chiefs basketball game, I noticed that Head Coach Jamie Debity of Sequoyah chose to wear some very wretchedly styled jeans and a faded thermal underwear shirt to coach his even more wretchedly styled basketball team. I am certainly not old enough to have spoken with Mr. Naismith, the game's creator, but I can say with little doubt that the Proprietor of the Peachbasket did not intend for the coaches of his wonderful creation to dress like 19th century railroad workers. Therefore, I believe the game is done a horrid disservice by this "fashion statement," and the team's performance was obviously affected by it as well. Though I cannot speak that last statement with extreme confidence, I can stress, with extreme confidence, that something is affecting them. Waylon Jennings wore jeans...Waylon Jennings was not a basketball coach. Jamie Debity wore jeans...
Little Stimey
Is this the same team that made the state tournament last year?? There was a coach that coached in jeans and a jean shirt in the state tournament last year. I believe it was an east Tennessee team. He looked pretty sloppy, but his team was in the state tournament. I was just curious.
atn301
This was not the team at last year's state tournament. The creator of the Cherokee alphabet, Sequoyah, is more likely to attend a state tournament than the Lady Chiefs. If he does in fact attend this year's, let me know. I'd like to see my name spelled in Cherokee.
10W40
I always thought it would be cool to coach a game in tattered overalls. If you had a good team, everyone would say you were a real character. If you had a bad team, everyone would say you were a real idiot. Little Stimey
That is a good point! I think the coach should represent the school in the best manner possible, but if he/she is successful no one will be paying attention to what he/she is wearing. Would you wear a long sleeve or wife beater t-shirt underneath?
