Waverly vs. Cheatham Co.

Well, I'll say that Cheatham handled the crowd. As a matter of fact, the crowd really wasn't even in the game that much. Cheatham led most of the game. Waverly did get the lead of couple of times and Cheatham had a lead of 8 a couple of times as well. Cheatham had several guys step up huge against the Tigers. Joey Beach had 13, Noel had 18 (and the game winning shot), Cole had like 9, Moss had like 10. Everybody contributed for the Cubs. Ricco played very well but couldn't pull it out for the Tigers. He took over the 4th quarter and single handedly kept the Tigers in it. Big win for the Cubs, who move to 6-3 in the district. What can I say? What a great game!

:D Couldn't resist KingCub........I've been holding on to it for awhile! It's unusual to go through the district undefeated, but it doesn't detract from Waverly's fine season thus far. Like I said, you guys didn't do Harpeth any favors.........not that you would!

I do appreciate that you got the Frazier reference though.......I was afraid I'd have to explain it to everybody! B)

Hats off to Cheatham for coming into Waverly and getting the win. A very disappointing loss for the Tigers. Have to give credit to Coach Jackson and the Cubs. He had them ready to play and coached a great game as he was without 3 of his post players for long periods of time because of injuries and foul trouble.

As for the Ralston versus Smith debate, it will continue. They are both very good players who I love watching play. Obviously, both players helped their cases for MVP of the district in the game. Smith hits for 18 and the game winner, while Ralston scores 26 and single handily almost pulls it out for the Tigers at the end.

As for the game I think most people would agree Waverly has the most overall talent and athleticism in the district, but Cheatham is able to overcome that by being so fundamentally sound on the defensive and offensive ends. They run their offensive sets better then anybody and shot numerous uncontested layups against the Tigers while the Tigers had to work hard on offense all night, usually relying on Ralston to set up teammates.

As for how the district will shake out, it's going to be a fun tournament. Although I personally think the district is down quite a bit from past years, there are several teams who can make some noise come tournament time. I still think Waverly is the team to beat; but Cheatham, Harpeth, and Sycamore all know they can beat Waverly. Creek Wood could be a suprise and don't count out Stewart County on their home court. I wouldn't want to have to be the 2 or 3 seed opening with the Rebels in a play in game. More importantly, Waverly knows they have to kick it up a notch and get it off cruise control, especially on the defensive end. The Tigers have a great senior group and I look for them to respond in a very positive manner.

Regardless of how it shakes out, I hope our district sticks together and cheers for each other come Region time.
