How is Hume Fogg this year? I was told that they werent doing very well in their scrimmages, is that true?

The new school in Williamson County, Independence beat Hume Fogg 6-1 last week. IHS only has freshmen and sophomores playing. Don't know if IHS is good or Hume Fogg is down or even if a scrimmage means anything. Too early...

I find that extremly hard to beleive. It true Hume Fogg must be a much different squad than i  had assumed would be playing for them

That was the score. I was at the game. Hume Fogg is likely better that the score indicates. But IHS has some pretty decent players and will be competitive with most of the teams they play. With only freshmen and sophomores this year is for learning and gaining experience.

Did Hume Fogg play its varsity? Because often times when playing new schools teams will play there JV Against them so I will not make any judgements until I hear who Hume Fogg brought to the table for this one.

I'm sure it was their varsity. They were certainly bigger physivally than IHS.

How did this happen, is indepence really that good, or was hume fogg just really off?

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in the outcome of a game like this. IHS is not bad but very young and likely HF didn't play their best game. I'll bet Hume Fogg is much better that the score of a scrimmage shows.

IHS has lost to Centennial 5-1 and Page 2-1 and beaten Hickman County 4-2 and Hume Fogg in its preseason scrimmages.

For freshmen and sophomores being competitive is the most important thing. No one thinks they will challenge the established 4 year class schools this year.

interesting comments about independence and hume-foggg

in my opinion independence is a better team

i know people on hume-fogg and they played all varsity players in that preseason game. hume-fogg is overrated and isn't anywhere near the team of last year, so think what you will but independence looks pretty good.

I watched Hume Fogg last week when they played CPA and won 1-0.

They are an excellent team in defense and midfield and I was very impressed with their passing and field position in these areas. I thought their offense lacked a little firepower and they seem to rely mainly on mistakes rather than creating great opportunities. I did also not see them use the sidelines much on offense.

I don't know if I would risk this with TSSAA refs, but they did use the offside trap a lot. In one instance, the refs missed two players offside completely and CPA had a breakaway which could easily have resulted in a goal.

I was also impressed with their goalkeeper handling. He has a quick and great throw out to the midfield sidelines, which can catch a few teams flat footed an at the wrong end of the field to defend.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
