TSSAA Board of Control Minutes for Wednesday, June 10th
TSSAA
The TSSAA Board of Control finished all remaining items on the Board agenda on Wednesday, June 10. The following was the remaining action of the Board Minutes:
18. Discussed the Schedule of the 2009 Administrators’ Meetings Schedule. It should be noted that these meetings will be held a month earlier than usual.
19. Voted to select Cookeville as the host of the 2009 and 2010 BlueCross Bowl Football Championships.
20. Discussed the Spring Fling Bids for 2010 and 2011. Bid packages to host the 2010 and 2011 BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Spring Fling were sent to those cities that expressed interest the second week in May. Proposals are due in the state office by July 13, 2009. Representatives of each city submitting a proposal will have an opportunity to discuss their proposal at the August meeting prior to the Board making their selection.
21. Approved Change in Cheerleading Safety Guidelines. The experts that we depend on as far as safety is concerned are the individuals at Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA). Their safety guidelines are written by the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators (AACCA). These safety guidelines are much more stringent as to what is allowed by cheerleading squads as far as stunts, building, etc. In the interest of safety, we are now requiring all cheerleading squads to follow the AACCA guidelines. These guidelines are available online and will be distributed to all schools. Cheer coaches have an opportunity to get AACCA certification each year at our Cheer Coaches Conference.
22. Heard Information Regarding a Request that was Granted to Shoot a Cross Country Movie in East Tennessee
TSSAA was contacted in February concerning the possibility of a Tennessee based motion picture called SOARING EAGLES being shot in East Tennessee during the fall of 2009. A script of the movie was sent to the state office. After reading the script and discussing this information with the individuals in charge, the state office granted permission for the production company to film in East Tennessee using some of our high school cross country runners.
The movie is based on a teen boy runner going blind in the 60s in Tennessee. He spearheads a fight for equality amongst his peers by teaming with an eagle, a visionary coaching mentor, and courageous handicapped runners in a climactic race for survival, redemption, and acceptance.
