Wendi Scott "Welcome Home"

LCHS welcomes Wendi Scott back home to her alma mater.
Scott, a former Lawrence County standout basketball player and previous girls head coach, has been named the next Lawrence County High School Lady Cats head basketball coach. She will replace Coach Brian Porter who resigned after 10 years at the helm. Coach Wendi Scott has a deep history with LCHS as both a player and a coach. Scott was a member of the 1998 Lawrence County team that won the Class AAA girls basketball state title. As the Lady Cats head coach from 2006-2012, her teams amassed a 153-36 record. During that time the Lady Cats were District 8-AAA Champions four times and earned a state tournament appearance in 2012. Coach Scott was named District 8-AAA coach of the year three times during her tenure. As head coach at Blackman High School, she had a 48-15 record while earning a district championship and a substate appearance, along with being named 7-AAA Coach of the Year for the 2019-2020 school year. For the past two years, he has served as an assistant coach for the LCHS Lady Cats basketball team.
Coach Wendi Scott states, “I am very excited for the opportunity to lead the Lady Cats Basketball Program. This community, school, and team holds a special place in my heart and I look forward to continuing to build the tradition of excellence. My staff and I will work hard at providing many opportunities for growth academically, athletically, and personally. Go Lady Cats! See you in November!”
Director of Athletics Matt Calvert says, “I am very excited to see where Coach Scott can take the Lady Wildcats. She has proven that she gets results wherever she goes. She has a drive to always give everything that she has to the program and to get her players to step up to any and all challenges. I am happy to say ‘welcome home’ to Coach Scott.”
Principal Willie Joiner says, “I am thrilled to have Coach Scott returning to LCHS as the Lady Cats basketball coach. Wendi coaches the way she played - with great tenacity and a will to win. I have no doubt that she will continue to keep LCHS Lady Cats basketball moving forward with a winning attitude that she embodies in all that she does.”
