Information Concerning Football Scheduling For 2025-2026
TSSAA
Administrators and Football Coaches:
This is an important memo concerning football scheduling for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. One action needs to be taken immediately (see below). Please read this completely and thoroughly and communicate each point to your coaching staff.
To be able to guarantee schools Friday-night region contests and manage the current shortage of officials in many areas of the state, the state office will again be setting the region football schedules for 2025 and 2026.
Schools should expect several things:
Region games will be scheduled from Week 3 through Week 11. A small number of Week 1 and 2 games are possible for the largest regions or in areas where there are fewer officiating crews available.
Every school will play a Week 11 region game. Week 11 games for Classes 1A/3A/5A/DII-A/DII-AAA will be scheduled for Friday in 2025 and Thursday in 2026.
Week 11 games for Classes 2A/4A/6A/DII-AA will be scheduled for Thursday in 2025 and Friday in 2026. In regions with an odd number of teams, one team will not have a region game in Week 11.
Region schedules will be balanced, home and away, over the two year period. Due to the scheduling process and officials availability, your school may play the same region opponent at home (or away) in both 2024 and 2025.
Each school can reserve one week that will not be utilized for a region game
Aside from your requested open date, no assumptions can be made as to what weeks will be open for your school.
The completed region schedules will be added to your Portal schedule and be posted to the TSSAA website on November 25 at 1 PM central time (2 PM eastern).
A few days before the schedules are released, each AD and football coach will receive the link to a special scheduling tool. The tool will allow you to see a list of the other schools who are also open and looking for games with details on officiating crew availability, enrollment differences, and distances to the other schools.
For your convenience, the chart below shows the football season week and the associated Friday night calendar date by year.
Officials Availability for Other Friday Contests
Region contests scheduled by the state office have first priority for officials on Friday nights. Non-region contests scheduled for a Friday night will be assigned officials on a first-come, first-served basis. If an officials’ assignor does not have officials available for a Friday night non-region game, the game must be moved to Thursday or Saturday.
A region game may be moved to another day of the week by mutual agreement and upon notifying the state office.
A region game may be moved to a different week by mutual agreement and upon notifying the state office, but the game will not be guaranteed to have officials’ available and may have to be played on the Thursday or Saturday of the new week.
