TENNESSEE TITANS HONOR JACKSON SOUTH SIDE HIGH SCHOOL HEAD COACH JERRY HAYES AS TITANS COACH OF THE WEEK
(NASHVILLE, TN) - The Tennessee Titans announced today that Jerry Hayes, head football coach of Jackson South Side High School, has been named as the Titans High School Football Coach of the Week. Last Friday night, Jackson South Side rolled up an impressive 400 yards of offense in defeat of perennial power University School of Jackson 42-15. The Titans Foundation
will make a $1,000 contribution to the Jackson South Side High School football program in Coach Hayes' honor.
"The NFL realizes the importance of high school coaches to the game of football," NFL director of football operations Gene Washington says. "A good coach does more than just X's and O's. He teaches and counsels his players about issues both on and off the field that will help them throughout their lives."
Hayes will receive a framed certificate signed by NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher, as well as a custom embroidered Titans hat at the Titans game vs. Buffalo on December 14th in a special pre-game ceremony.
"Coach Hayes is a very experienced Head Coach," said Jackson South Side Principal Jimmy Arnold. "He has been with our program for 17 years and he always has his team ready to play. We are very happy to have Coach Hayes as part of our program."
The criteria for selection includes the coach's impact on his team, school and community. A statewide media panel votes each week to determine the weekly winner. All high school football coaches in Tennessee, regardless of their school's size, league, or division, are eligible to be selected each week. The program is designed to recognize high school coaches who transform, through their hard work and dedication, student-athletes into the best possible football players and citizens in their community.
Coach Hayes is now eligible for the Tennessee Titans Coach-of-the-Year award and an additional $2,000 for his football program from the Titans Foundation. The Titans will announce the recipient during the December 14th pre-game ceremony.
In it's sixth season, the Titans Coach of the Week program has awarded more than $55,000 to football programs across the state.
