Lawrence County High School Names Garrick Barnett as New Head Football Coach

Coach Barnett brings a new era to the Lawrence County Football Team. His experience speaks for itself. He has been a player or coach for the past twenty years. He played four years at LCHS, played at Lambuth University, and then entered into coaching in 2012 as a middle and high school assistant football coach. In 2014, he returned to his alma mater as an assistant football coach, taking over the middle school program as the head coach in 2018. Coach Barnett proved what he can do at the middle school level by transforming a struggling team into a winning program. Coach Barnett has been involved in countless roles as a coach at every level, even coaching and working with our Youth Football League for over four-plus years. Coach Barnett has the commitment to build this program from the youth up.

Coach Barnett says, “My family (Erica, Cooper, Hudson Luke, and Evelyn) and I are honored, excited, and blessed to be a part of a new era in football at Lawrence County High School. We live in Leoma, TN, and attend Gum Springs Baptist Church. I am thankful to all of my co-workers and bosses throughout the years for working with me and helping me grow throughout the years. There are way too many names to list: from college at Lambuth University (2008) and the University of North Alabama (2009-2013); to Wal-Mart (2009-2013) in Florence, AL, to Lexington High School (AL) (2012-2013); to Lawrence County Highway Department (2013, 2014, 2016) to Richland High School (2013-2014) in Lynnville, TN; and finally back home to E.O. Coffman and Lawrence County High School for the past 10 years. All of these people, along with great support from our family, have allowed me to attain this opportunity. All good comes from God, so the glory should as well! We bleed purple and gold! Looking forward to getting to work!!! LET’S GO CATS!!!!!”

Principal Willie Joiner says, “First of all, Garrick Barnett is one of the finest men I have ever had the privilege to work with in all my years in this profession. Coach Barnett is a man of character and integrity first and foremost, and one I would trust to work and guide our team into the future in a way we can all be proud of. He was an excellent player here at LCHS, a great assistant coach, and one I feel is well- prepared to take the next step as a head coach at this level. Coach Barnett loves LCHS and will be committed for the long haul, not only to this team, but for many teams to come. I am excited about the future for our Wildcats and the entire Wildcat Family to have Coach Barnett taking the reins of our football program.”

Director of Athletics Matt Calvert says, “I love the heart, desire, work ethic, skill level development, and the fire Coach Barnett brings as a head coach. He has a love to develop the kids in high school, middle school, and youth league programs. He does not care how much hard work it takes to get LC up to an exceptional level. I also believe that Coach Barnett will be a great fit for the program, and will bring a new style of coaching to make LC Football a state contender.”
