IMO....I can't put Cleveland in front of the Owls.....they always have problems on defense....will the new stud qb throw for 2k???and the qb from 2013 was pretty much neutralized in the big game....the rbs are a sure thing....still came on the scene late but at the right time....the defense...I can't honestly rate the play against the Owls in 2013 because the best 67 from the o-line and 31 from the d-line did not play....still march the ball down the field....got stopped by a penalty...not the defense with seconds left..

Now don't take this the wrong way....but what we have returning is the reason I give the Owls the green light...yes we were young but we overachieved IMO....THE DEFENSE IS RETURNING 8...yes the heart and soul is not returning....but we won't miss a beat..The o-line.....am I worried?? the Owls worst o-line can compete in this district......now with a good stall of backs...and we do have...all they need is a seam...the vision and the speed is there contrary to what has been said.....the back-ups rushed for over 700yds combined.... if you look at the numbers of the wideouts.....remember the senior became a decoy...not thrown to that much....the backups....1300 rec.combined.....the qb....let the best man win...all capable....and the skilled players out number any team in the district....I don't know any other way to say it.....no sandbaggers in Hooterville...

Yes, your D will be very good........ I do think a very good D can win you balls games....... I also think your O will get better each and every week, both of the RB's are very good, and your young O cordInator will put them into skims to highlight there strengths.

Cleveland returns all but 1 O lineman. Massy will be there QB, he is pretty darn good. They return both of there RB's. There JV team was pretty darn good had good size, also had a few skill guys that will help them with depth.... Our freshman team lost to them by 6 or 12 points can remember, I do think you are correct there are some big guys that could have helped us last year from that freshman team. As you know Gatewood does not like and will not bring up the freshman guys. He did not bring up Herndon, Francios, or Gatewood Jr. when they were freshman, and they could have started or got lots of playing time. The only 2 that I know he brought up early was Woods this year, cause he was so thin at QB. Milita came up when he was a freshman, cause when our long snapper got hurt Gatewood tryed everyone on the team no one could do it. He asked who long snaps for the freshman team, Milita came up and long snapped 2 games, I hear he has good practices at RB and he kept him up as a backup long snapper and 3rd string RB then he busted a 100 yard game the last game of season vs Howard that''s the only 2. Cleveland will rebuild it's D but i think they got the studs to get it togather by game 6 vs, us and last game vs Oolteweah, they got better every week last year. Do I think this Cane team can win yes, but some young guys will need to grow up fast and quick. our first 4 games are very hard and I hope they can get it togather. Signal, Kingsport DB, then Riverdale and throw in Walker Valley before we get owls, and Raiders. It's stiff and lot to get worked out very quick vs good teams. That's why I pick Cleveland. As for the Owls they do return a lot on D they will be good. That LB is one of the best if not the best I have seen in a while. I do think they will have trouble with the O till they work it out. I give them a slight nod. Then there is McMinn they will be good also. As I said before I reserve the right to change my mind but need to see some things after the 1st 2 scrimmages I could change my mind. As of right now I feel this way. As for the transfer's Can't talk about that, have not seen them play. I think a lot also depends if #9 returns and I hear he will.

EH's freshmen beat Cleveland's JV.

That's not what I heard, but ok.

I think it says a lot that the EH freshman team could run with the Cleveland JV.

I was there, but was running my mouth so I could have been wrong. So I did make a phone call and yes Cleveland won. You would be correct East Ham Freshman team was very good and That's why I said when those cat's get to be Jr's the Canes will be very good. This years varsity team will be a good ball club, and will give folks fits, but it is not as experanced as the Cleveland or Ooltewah teams. The Sr there are not a lot of them, the Jr class the same this team will have a lot of Soph talent on it. I feel it is just like the team when this past Sr class was soph. That team took a beating first few games vs. Signal, Ooltewah, Bradley, then got on a roll and won 6AA. This years team sould be close too that. The big differance will be when we get to the middle of the schedule this year, there will be no, Hixson, Brainerd, Howard, in district play. We will see Ooltewah, Cleveland, McMinn. If the big guys up front and they will be large can open some holes, and pass block and give Woods some time this Cane team could score some points. The only reasom I gave Cleveland and Owls a nod was they do rreturn some starters from a year ago, for Raiders it's on O and Owls it's on D. Both of those coaching staffs are very good and will work to get those into shape. Like last year both of those teams will have guys go both ways when they need too, and play younger guys when they don't. Now with all that said going back a cuple of years nobody picked McMinn and they won the thing what 2 or 3 years in a row, would not shock me if they pulled it off again.

EH will return 20 seniors.  16/20 have played significant minutes.

EH will return 19 juniors.  6/19 have played significant minutes.

That isn't even taking into account transfers already in the building or ineligible transfers last year.

Cleveland is returning 27 Seniors.  Do you think 80% of them saw significant time?

Cleveland is returning 25 Juniors.  Do you think 30% of them saw significant time?

Ooltewah is returning 27 Seniors.  Do you think 80% of them saw significant time?

Ooltewah is returning 26 Juniors.  Do you think 30% of them saw significant time?

Quantity or quality?  Both Ooltewah and Cleveland have more kids on their respective teams, but does simply having more seniors/juniors (regardless of experience) make your team better?

I also think you should take into account that the Freshman team was running the exact same offense as the Varsity.  That hasn't always held true in the past.  Woods was in the Gun or in I-formation his entire freshman career.  Not to mention he's been watching his brothers run the same offense his whole life.

I don't think the transition will be that difficult offensively considering the terminology and verbiage is the same.

I'm trying to convince you that you're low-balling EH for 2014.  Is it working? :flower:

I'm loving the 2014 conversation thus far. I'm a little surprised that no one has mentioned Bradley Central. I don't believe they'll contend to win the conference, but I have a nagging suspicion that they'll cause one of the three favorites to lose it. I wish I could tell you why, but I just get uncomfortable with the thought of them.
