The season is past the halfway point, so here's a look at the 3-AAA standings:

  1. Powell (9-0, 14-2-1); district games remaining - OR, CC (x2), Central (x2), Gibbs (x2)
  2. Gibbs (10-1, 19-3); Lost to AC; district games remaining - Powell (x2), AC, Halls, Karns
  3. Halls (6-3, 15-3). Lost to Powell twice, lost to Gibbs; district games remaining - Karns (x2), Central, Gibbs, OR
  4. Anderson Co (7-4, 15-7). Lost to Powell and Halls twice; district games remaining - Clinton (x2), OR, Gibbs, Central
  5. Karns (4-5, 8-10); district games remaining - Halls (x2), Central, Clinton, OR, Gibbs
  6. Clinton (2-8, 4-12)*
  7. Central (1-5, 2-12)*
  8. Oak Ridge (1-7, 8-10-1)*
  9. Campbell Co (0-7, 1-10)*

*Games missing on CoachT.

Pretty competitive district at the top this year. Powell and Gibbs appear to be in the driver's seat. They played earlier in the year, but weather halted their game in extra innings (2-2 in the 9th). AC got a huge win over Gibbs, but were swept by Powell, followed by being swept against Halls.

Rain has wreaked havoc on the schedule for the past few days, but here is where things stand, as of this morning:

  1. Powell (12-0, 20-4-1)
  2. Halls (9-3, 22-4)
  3. Gibbs (11-4, 25-7-1)
  4. Anderson Co (9-5, 19-10)
  5. Karns (6-5, 15-12)
  6. Clinton (2-10, 5-17)*
  7. Central (1-7, 2-15)*
  8. Oak Ridge (1-10, 8-13-1)*
  9. Campbell Co (0-7, 5-10)*

*Games missing on CoachT.

One more win and Powell cliches the district. Powell and Gibbs finally finished Game 1 of their series, with the Panthers winning 3-2 in 10 innings (or 11). Powell won game 2, 4-0. With Halls' win over Gibbs, they've suddenly moved up to #2 in the district, and should clinch that seed with a win over Karns next week. If Gibbs takes care of Karns today, they should lock up the #3 spot. Despite their strong start, AC will likely end up 4th. Karns should finish 5th.

Assuming we see nothing but chalk in the tournament, it'll be interesting to see how the top 3 teams perform in the Region. Weird seeing Maryville have such a terrible year, but William Blount, Farragut, and HVA have all looked pretty good.

Here is a standings update, with less than a week to go:

  1. Powell (15-0, 23-4-1)
  2. Halls (10-3, 23-4)
  3. Gibbs (12-4, 26-7-1)
  4. Anderson Co (11-5, 21-10)
  5. Karns (6-7, 17-15)
  6. Central (2-9, 3-19)*
  7. Clinton (2-11, 5-18)*
  8. Oak Ridge (1-11, 9-14-1)*
  9. Campbell Co (0-9, 5-12)*

*Games missing on CoachT.

Rain wrecked havoc on the schedule this season, but Powell has clinched the district. If Halls takes care of Karns on Thursday, they will finish 2nd and Gibbs will be 3rd.

Karns defeated Anderson County, 5-4, but the other games were postponed. Still no official word on when those games will be played, but I assume it will be on Sunday.

Elimination games will likely be on Monday. Semifinal games will now be on Tuesday.

I've been on the road the last few days, but here is a quick update:

Elimination games today between Halls-AC and Karns-Central. Winners will play in an elimination game tomorrow.

Powell and Gibbs play tomorrow in the winners bracket. Winner makes Friday's final, and clinches a spot in the region. Loser will face the winner of the losers bracket on Friday.

    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
