Forrest’s Jordan signs with Campbellsville University
On Tuesday at Forrest, Lady Rocket senior center fielder and District 9A Most Valuable Player Adrean Jordan signed a letter of intent to attend Campbellsville University in Kentucky on a softball scholarship.
Jordan, who also played 18U travel ball with the Louisville Sluggers’ top team over the summer, batted .444 with 5 home runs, 39 RBIs, and 30 runs scored as she played in all 30 games for the Lady Rockets last season.
Asked why she chose the Lady Tigers over several other suitors, Jordan said, “I had a couple of other choices, but Campbellsville was just like home, it was Chapel Hill away from Chapel Hill.”
“It’s a big weight off my shoulders, I can concentrate on having fun and being a senior now,” added Jordan.
Lady Tiger head coach Shannon Wathen attended and said about signing her only Tennessean to the squad, “We don’t venture out of state much. We came across Adrean a couple of years ago and liked her. She is a great student and a tremendous athlete. She obviously can hit the ball and that is something we are looking for.”
“She fills the a need of a big bat in the lineup and I think she can potentially be that for us, plus she can play the outfield and first base, so we came after her pretty hard,” said Wathen. “Everything worked out for us and we are extremely excited about Adrean being a Lady Tiger.”
Wathen has been Campbellsville’s head coach for nine years, sporting an impressive 302-165-1 record at the NAIA school and has won four Mid-South Conference regular season championships and three conference tournament crowns in 2005, 2006 and 2008.
The Lady Tigers have reached the tournament finals in seven of Wathen’s nine seasons at the helm.
“Adrean will have an opportunity to play early and for the future, she has unlimited potential to be very good at our level,” said Wathen.
Jordan, who has a 3.75 G.P.A. and wants to study elementary education and one day coach, talked about what she will be able to contribute to the Lady Tigers’ program.
“I hope I can help, coming right out my freshman year,” said Jordan. “I think we have the potential to keep winning like they have been and keep everything going better and go farther than conference.”
Still some unfinished business at Forrest for Jordan, who wants a state title with the Lady Rockets before moving on to college.
“A state championship here is definitely my first goal,” said Jordan.
Asked what the Lady Rockets’ chances of capturing the title this year and what that will entail, Jordan said, “A lot of teamwork will be necessary and a lot of growing up from some younger kids, but it is definitely doable. This should be a reloading year.”
Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham said about Jordan signing with the Lady Tigers.
“Adrean will fit in well, she should be able to contribute to their program immediately and I am looking forward to her meeting that goal,” said Cheatham. “I am very proud of her and I am glad she has made that decision and she can be at ease now.”
About the unfinished business, Cheatham said, “First of all, I am looking forward to February. I hope they are all looking at how they can accomplish that goal and everyone on the team should be motivated in the challenge of meeting our goals.”
Jordan’s father Patrick said about the process, “Adrean thought about this a long, long time and we are really happy she got it done and now she can concentrate on her senior year.”
