FINALISTS ANNOUNCED
Hermitage, Tennessee, March 4, 2002:
The Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards will be presented to the top girls and boys in four classifications of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association on Friday, March 22, 2002, at the Pyramid in Memphis.
A statewide committee of sportswriters selected winners based on performance during the 2001-2002 regular season. Academics and character were also taken into consideration. High school head basketball coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists.
Not only has the coveted award moved to Memphis after being held in Nashville since the awards inception in 1986, but the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards luncheon is open to the public for the first time in the Awards’ 16 year history! More than 1000 people, including the honorees, their families, coaches, school administrators, members of the media from all parts of the state, and individuals in the Memphis community are expected to attend the 2002 luncheon. For more information about tickets to the awards luncheon contact the Memphis and Shelby County Sports Authority at 901-543-5319.
The awards luncheon will be broadcast by WHBQ am 560 in Memphis by Eric Hasseltine, commentator of the Memphis Grizzlies pre and post game shows on WHBQ. The awards luncheon will also be available statewide by Bill Haney, Dan Hughes, and Dick Palmer of the Tennessee Sports Radio Network (TSRN). Any radio station interested in picking up the feed from the TSRN can contact Bill Haney at (731) 686-1256 or Dan Hughes at 1-800-301-9930.
