Seven Mr. Football Winners to play in Toyota All-Star Classic

The Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association (TACA) and the Tennessee Toyota Dealers would like to congratulate the seven Mr. Football Winners who are scheduled to participate in the 2nd Annual Toyota East vs. West Tennessee All-Star Classic on December 13 at Carson Newman College.

The West squad will feature Mr. Football winners Marsalis Teague of Henry Co.(4A Back), Zach Rogers of David Lipscomb (3A Back), Mt. Pleasant?s Preston Gilbreath (1A lineman), and Ben Cunningham of Goodpasture (2A Back). Mr. Football winners on the East squad include South Pittsburgh?s David Jones (1A Back), Justin Smith of Maryville (4A Lineman), and Kicker of the Year Jared White of Trousdale County. In all, thirteen Mr. Football finalists are scheduled to play in the game which kicks off at 12 PM Eastern, and will be carried live on television across the state.

Free tickets for the 2nd Annual Toyota East vs. West Tennessee All-Star Classic can be picked up at Toyota
Knoxville, Rusty Wallace Toyota in Morristown, Fox Toyota in Clinton, and Rick McGill?s Airport Toyota in Alcoa.

Toyota East Vs. West Tennessee All-Star Classic Facts

Date: Saturday, December 13, 2008, Kickoff 12:00 PM EST

Site: Burke-Tarr Stadium (cap. 5,500) at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN

TV/Radio: The game will be broadcast on television in Knoxville (WVLT-TV Channel 8), and Nashville (WUXP MyTV30). Other TV stations across the state are expected to join the broadcast network.

Tickets: $6 at the gate, or can be picked up for free at participating Toyota Dealerships in East Tennessee. (Toyota Knoxville, Rusty Wallace Toyota in Morristown, Fox Toyota in Clinton, and Rick McGill?s Airport Toyota in Alcoa)

Participants: Approximately 90 high school seniors from across Tennessee divided into East and West teams.

Team Practice Sites: West- Tusculum College, Greeneville
East- Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City

Practice Dates: Tuesday afternoon, December 9-Friday, December 12

Head Coaches: East- Philip Shadowens (Middle Tennessee Christian), West- Kevin Ward (Camden)
Assistant Coaches: East: Tony Lambert (Oneida), Tim Daniels (Red Bank), Buck Coatney (Fulton), Eddie Courtney (Farragut), Robbie Norris (Sullivan North), Shawn Middleton (Smyrna), Alex Robbins (Middle TN Christian). West: P.A. Pratt (Crockett Co.), Paul Wade (Davidson Academy), Joe Welch (Bolton), Chris Wiley (Arlington), Carey Craig (Jackson South Side), John Dowtin (Cordova).

Selection Process: Nomination forms were sent to high school coaches in October. The teams will be selected and announced in early December.

Last Year?s Result: East All-Stars defeated West All-Stars 26-6.
