Special Called TSSAA Classification Meeting Today

The TSSAA Board of Control will have a "Special Called Meeting" on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 to decide on Division I and Division II Classification for the next four year cycle (2017-2021). The meeting will be held at the TSSAA office building and will begin at 9:00 a.m. Central Time.

TSSAA BOARD OF CONTROL SPECIAL CALLED MEETING AGENDA

July 27, 2016

Hermitage, Tennessee

1. Roll Call

2. Division I and Division II Classification

The TSSAA Board of Control will vote on the number of classes Division I and Division II schools will have in each sanctioned sport for the next four year cycle. That classification period will begin with the 2017-2018 school year and run through 2020-2021.

3. Division I Multiplier

The Board will need to decide on whether or not they plan to use a multiplier for those independent schools that decide to participate in Division I. Currently, all DI independent school enrollments are multiplied by 1.8. Board action states that no school can be moved up more than one class due to the multiplier.

4. District and Regional Alignment

The Board will need to decide on whether or not they want the state office staff to set District/Regional Alignments and publish them when they are finalized. If so, this will be done prior to the November Board of Control meeting, giving schools an opportunity to appeal if they feel they have a legitimate reason. This would also be in advance of the “Scheduling Meetings” that must take place immediately after the November meeting.

5. Reevaluation of Enrollments

The Board has traditionally required the state office to reevaluate every member school’s enrollment figures after two years during the four year classification cycle. Schools that have a 20% decrease/increase in enrollment which causes them to move to another class are moved at that time. The Board needs to decide if this is still the direction it wants to go.
