11/19/03 - CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. " Austin Peay State University's baseball team opened its 2004-2005 recruiting season by signing Will Hogue, of Germantown. Hogue, a 6-3, 185-pound outfielder, batted .310 during his junior season to lead Houston High School to the Class AAA State Baseball tournament and the No. 3 ranking in the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association (TBCA) All-Class Top 10. He finished the season with 11 doubles, three home runs, 24 runs batted in and 23 stolen bases. He also competed in the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Junior's All-Star Game and was 2-of-7 with three stolen bases.

"Will is a huge signee for us," said Govs head coach Gary McClure. "We believe that he has a very high ceiling with his talent. He's probably the kind of player who will be here three years and then a good draft pick. The best way to describe him is that he is explosive and can really run he runs the 60-yard dash in 6.5 seconds. I believe he has the potential to be a power guy here he makes good contact at the plate. Hogue also had a successful summer, competing for the Dulin's Dodgers Elite Team. He batted .315 for the Dodgers with seven doubles in 20 stolen bases in 36 games. That team also recently competed in the 2003 WWBA PG/BA World Championships in Jupiter, Fla. where he went 4-of-9 with three stolen bases in four games.

Will has played at the highest level of baseball possible for a high school athlete, said McClure. The Govs current starting outfield is composed of seniors Ron Bethke and Alfredo Burkeen and junior Marcus Pearson. Also available for the 2003-2004 season are sophomores Brett Luther and Mitch Turriglio and freshman Jacob Crass. We lose two seniors at the corners, said McClure. We are bringing him in because we believe he can be our starting right fielder from the start. We felt we needed to bring in a guy who could be an impact.
