The boards now have a new interface for viewing on an iPhone or Android device (Droid). Point your mobile browser at http://www.coacht.com/boards/ and the server will automatically detect your device and load the mobile version. Unlike before, you can now create new posts, search and view the latest posts. Switch to it anytime by choosing "IP.Board Mobile" from the drop-down box at the bottom of the page. We'll be adding a link to the boards soon on the main "mobile" site at http://m.coacht.com/.

With our recent upgrades, you are now able to link your CoachT.com profile to your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts. This gives you one-click logins (by clicking the Facebook or Twitter icons on the login form) and the ability to publish status updates from your CoachT.com profile to Facebook/Twitter. Plus members can import updates from Facebook/Twitter into their CoachT.com profile. An option is also available for setting your Facebook/Twitter profile picture as your CoachT.com avatar or profile picture. Linking the Accounts If you already have a CoachT.com account, login as usual then visit your profile page and click the "Edit Profile" button. Your profile is available from the drop-down box in the upper right corner where your username is displayed, or click here. Click the "Profile" tab and click the Manage Facebook/Twitter Connect tabs. Follow the instructions to link the accounts. Once the account is linked you will see additional options for importing/publishing content between your profiles. You can always return here later to change your settings. New Accounts When creating an account for the first time, you can begin the registration process by logging in using Facebook or Twitter. The site will then walk you through selecting a CoachT.com username. You'll be up and running in no time!

After two days of going back and forth with the phone people everything is working now! The toll-free number for the CoachT.com Scoreline is 1-800-318-1852. As you dial, you'll notice that all the numbers you hit will be in the big "T" on the dial pad (along the top row and down the middle). Sorta like the old "dial down the center" ads but without the Carrot Top. Here's a card you can print out and keep with you in your billfold as a reminder... or program it into your cell phone. Or memorize it as I've done... I've been dialing it in my sleep. Seriously, I really want everyone to give it a try and make sure the computer voice pronounces your schools' names correctly. I've caught quite a few of them, but there may be some I've missed. Oneida was real funny.

I've been wanting to get this going for a long time now, and it looks like it's almost ready for primetime! There's just one more roadblock involving the toll-free number, but you're now able to hear the latest final scores (as reported to CoachT.com) over the phone. For Plus members, you can begin using the service through a Murfreesboro-local number... 615-713-1283. When we get the toll-free number functioning well, this number will be discontinued. This "Scoreline" will also be the way you will phone in scores to CoachT. Give it a try and add it to your cell phone address book!

It will download what is called a vCard. If you have Outlook or Eudora the file should open with those type programs and add contact information to your address book. Since we don't publish email addresses, however, that feature is pretty much useless.

Each team's overall record is used to do the calculations. The number one goal of the Strength+Success ranking is to publish a ranking that is completely objective and is simple enough for everyone to understand. Well, that's two goals, but you get the picture. The list on the left side of the page is the win percentage of every team on your schedule averaged together. The entire schedule, not just completed games. This also means that if you play an undefeated team in your district three times in a season, all three of those meetings factor into the average. On the right hand side, we take the team's average "opponent strength" from the left and add the team's own win percentage. Oliver Springs' opponents are a combined 208-139 for a win percentage of 60%. It's own win percentage is 66.6% (10-5). Add 0.6 to 0.666 and you'll get 1.26, which ranks them 11th on the right hand side. There's no magic to it, it just is what it is. What hurts Elizabethton is the four out-of-state teams (whose records don't factor in) and the four games against winless teams in their district. In addition, only one district opponent has a winning record (South Greene at 9-4). You can look here to see what I'm talking about.

The apprehension we have about incurring the additional cost and time that would be involved in "taking the next step" server-wise is that 95% of the time everything works fine. It's just those few nights out of the year (probably 20-30 days total) where we have problems meeting demand.

Are you talking about for the message boards or the main site?

Install a good Antivirus program like AVG (avg71free_385a721.exe) and run it. You may have to start up Windows and run the antivirus software in Safe Mode for complete removal of the virus. If the virus is as bad as it seems you would be wise to backup your important files and completely reload the computer. That is the only 100% sure-fire way to fix the problem. To use the F8 key to start Windows XP in Safe mode Restart the computer. Some computers have a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS. Others may not let you know what is happening. As soon as the BIOS loads, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. If this happens, restart the computer and try again. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, select Safe mode and then press Enter.

More than 1,500 high school basketball fans showed up last night for a Seventh Region Tournament final that was never played. The Jeffersontown and Ballard teams and their backers arrived at Louisville Gardens only to find out the 7 o'clock game had been delayed and eventually postponed because of a temporary injunction that referee Vic Montgomery was granted in Jefferson County Circuit Court. The incident started Friday night in the Gardens. During halftime of the DeSales-Western game, Montgomery, who was working the game, and Darrell Bailey, who was scheduled to work the evening's final game, got involved in a verbal exchange that started in the officials' locker room and carried into the arena. Both were escorted from the building. Montgomery was replaced for the second half of the DeSales-Western game, and Bailey was replaced in the Doss-Pleasure Ridge Park game. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.d...484/1002/SPORTS

We have the ability to do that here, I just don't know why the board operators aren't showing it.

Test it for me if you would... Note: This link won't work for you unless you have Google Earth downloaded and installed on your computer. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a fast computer and a fast connection to the Internet. http://www.coacht.com/inside/map_games.cfm...tid=2&keyhole=1 If I have it set right, it should update every hour with new data.

I'm looking at it right now. Shouldn't be all that hard. By the way, you can now find map links at the top of the basketball boards and on each section of the Scoreboard (right next to where it lists the sport). And yes, the map shows the final score when it is entered on the scoreboard. Could be easier to find it there than looking through a blue million games on the scoreboard.

I wasn't quite prepared for that to be sent out... but here's the updated (and permanent) link. We'll link it at the top of the boards and on the front page somewhere. http://www.coacht.com/inside/map_games.cfm Just choose your favorite sport. This is what it will look like in football... http://www.coacht.com/inside/map_games.cfm...wDate=11-4-2005

For those of you using Firefox, you can click the orange icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your browser menu and Subscribe to a forum. This will create a folder of what is called "Live Bookmarks." Visit this page for a demonstration. Essentially you can create a drop-down list on your toolbar of recently updated topics. Also, if you're a user of Gmail such as myself, you can go to your Settings and add one of the feeds to your "Web Clips" section. This will put links to updated topics at the top of your Gmail Inbox. Those are the two most useful things I've found to do with that RSS stuff.

I've put together a little tool that will show the path from the CoachT server to your ISP (and maybe even to your own computer). The numbers (in milliseconds) will show where any network slowdowns are occuring. http://www.coacht.com/debug/traceroute.cfm Click the link and give it up to two minutes to complete the trace. This was mine... Hop 15 is where the trace hit my router and was "firewalled" from going any further. Here are my results from home using Comcast cable internet wired directly to a Linksys WRT54G router... Test One: 9 seconds, Test Two: 14 seconds. The quantity of data involved in each test is identical (575 KB). The second test takes longer because your computer is forced to negotiate 101 different connections to the server instead of the two required in the first test. What is being demonstrated is the effect network latency has on your "web browsing speed." Cavfanfolife has a DSL line at home from Bellsouth. That's good. But her last comment suggests that her computer is connected to her DSL router over a marginal wireless connection. Even great wireless connections suffer from a fair amount of latency... a good or poor wireless connection only makes things more sluggish. Cavfan might try adjusting the router or computer's antenna for better reception or connect directly to the router with a cable to improve her experience. Muffin, because it appears you're using dialup internet, the numbers you've given are really out of range. For an accurate measurement you must begin from a new browser instance (close all the browsers and start again) and also diable any "browser accelerator" tools you may be running. I would say that if your second test doesn't exceed twice the result of your first test then you have a good connection. Anything more and you might investigate improving your current connection. More reading about network latency... What is latency? Comparison of latency and bandwidth Latency and IP More on Latency (more technical) Neat tool for viewing latency between the Internet's largest networks... http://www.internetpulse.net I'm closing this topic for now. If anyone has any questions about this latency thing, feel free to open a new discussion.

Unfortunately, it's impossible for us to diagnose and solve everyone's individual computer problems. But before I close this topic I ask that you run one more test for me. First, find a clock or watch with a second hand. Then, click this link, counting the number of seconds between clicking the link and when the browser shows "Done" at the bottom of the screen. Secondly, click this link, counting the number of seconds between clicking the link and when the browser shows "Done" at the bottom of the screen. These numbers will provide a measure of the latency of your network connection.

I'll have to say, the new logos really are a nice touch. Ready for the announcement!
