  1. As well, the Knox Central scrimmage on Friday and the Maryville scrimmage next Wednesday should provide enough information to make a decision a educated decision but I think the talent level on both Central and Maryville may be above both Tennessee High and DB.
  2. In the scrimmages DB has participated in thus far they have played up to their foes caliber. We seem to forget that the point of a scrimmage is not always to win, its to evaluate. Yes, there are alot of question marks, it seems there are alot in the Big East this year. Rumor has it both DB and Sevier County, the usual #1 and #2 seeds are down, Science Hill is on the up and coming but who really knows how far up the ladder they have come with their new coach, Knox Bearden has improved tremendously in a year yet in a tumultuous Knoxville who in upper east Tennessee really knows their level of play, Knox Karns is rebuilding with numbers with more boys out to play this year than last and with a new coach is looking positive but again who in this area really knows their level of play, Jefferson County has high hopes in looking to rebound from last years season and the Patriots can do nothing but improve this year, Campbell County seems to be the regular cellur dweller. These scrimmages do give us an idea, yet we cant base too much on them. Tennessee High will come to play as usual, as will DB. I definatley prefer this game over the usual opener with Sullivan South. I think the two teams are more equal this year than they have been in recent years. It seems it will come down to coaching and game plans. I think the game will be decided by 7-14 points with DB as the victor. Roll Tribe.
  3. Just wondering topvol98, is the wolverine helmet stickers something we should see on Science Hill's helmets this year?
  4. Really its hard to compare the two teams. We can say for sure though that Science Hill did step up their schedule somewhat adding Sullivan South and Morristown West. Dobyns Bennett plays Elizabethon and Tennessee High, as does Science Hill, so the scheduling comparison should be between Sullivan South/Morristown West and Oak Ridge/William Blount. I personally think playing two possible playoff 5A Region 2 teams is more beneficial in the long run. It does have to be rather difficult, however, to get good competition locally and Science Hill has done the best they can in adding South and West.
  5. I'll add too that Derek has signed to play college ball at Atlantic Sun Conference member East Tennessee State University and is a potential draft pick in the MLB amatuer draft. For some stats on Trent and also Dylan Pratt of Daniel Boone go to the link below: Trent and Pratt locked in for Big 9 MVP Race
  6. I'll put my two cents in. To name a player from east Tennessee, I'll say C Derek Trent of Dobyns Bennett could compete as one of the best players in the state. For those of you in west Tennessee who don't know of Derek, go to the Dobyns Bennett tricitiessports.com link below if your interested. tricitiessports.com
  7. Yes, I am out of high school and yes I did play baseball while there. I did, however, play football since I was 5 until my sophomore year. Dobyns Bennett football is a tradition in my family, my dad, uncle, and grandfather played on succesful Indian squads in the past, been going to the games since I was an infant so I have a genuine interest as an Alumni. I also have a genuine interest in all local high school sports. Call it sad, but I just try to keep up with things since ETSU athletics, though somewhat succesful, isn't too bloody interesting.
  8. After reading the majority of posts that involve trash talking between Dobyns Bennett, Science Hill, and some Sullivan South fans, I thought it reasonable to start a topic taking all upper east Tennessee programs into account. I know Dobyns Bennett has had success since it became a high school in the early 1900's, but the Indians graduated a talented senior class and replace those seniors with untested juniors. Can the Indians repeat as Big East champions? Science Hill has a new coach and alot of potential, but will they continue to ride their running game into the ground, or can the unproven coach install a passing game that will threaten defenses? Sullivan South, like Dobyns Bennett, graduated a talented senior class but their most vital talent, Curt Phillips, returns with colleges watching. Can Sullivan South turn the corner and win the big one to match them up with Morristown West and Maryville late in the playoffs? Is Tennessee High a force to be reckoned with for Dobyns Bennett and Science Hill? Should Morristown West challenge 5A Dobyns Bennett as the top team in upper east Tennessee? What about Elizabethton, Seymour, any Greene Co. school, Hampton, Cloudland, etc? I want to know about the talent levels, names to know, possible key matchups, and things that high school football enthusiasts should know about teams in 5A Region 1, 4A Region 1 and 2, 3A Region 1, 2A Region 1, and 1A Region 1. Please keep the insignificat trash talking to a minimum. We all can agree to disagree on any given post, may we please be mature enough to keep our mouths closed. Let the information flow gentleman. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  9. Anybody have any more information on the schedules? This is what I know about Sullivan South, Dobyns Bennett, and Science Hill's 2007 Football Schedules: Sullivan South: 0: 1: 2: Sullivan Central ® 3: 4: @ Johnson Co. ® 5: 6: Tennessee High ® 7: @ Elizabethton ® 8: Unicoi Co. ® 9: @ Sullivan North ® 10: @ Sullivan East ® Out of Conference Opponents: Science Hill (@ or v.), Daniel Boone (@ or v.), ? (@ or v.) *I pray to the Lord above South schedules somebody other than Happy Valley as their remaining out of conference game, but if you know anymore about their out of conference schedule and home/away affiliation feel free to inform. Dobyns Bennett: 0: @ Tennessee High 1: @ William Blount 2: Knox Bearden ® 3: Oak Ridge 4: @ Jefferson Co. ® 5: 6: 7: @ Sevier Co. ® 8: @ Knox Karns ® 9: Campbell Co. ® 10: Science Hill ® Out of Conference Opponents: @ Tennessee High, @ William Blount, v. Oak Ridge, and v. ? *It's impossible to get a hold of AD Daniels, but did DB drop the Elizabethton game? If so, who did they pick up and in what week? Science Hill 0: 1: 2: 3: 4: Sevier Co. ® 5: 6: @ Knox Bearden ® 7: Jefferson Co. ® 8: @ Campbell Co. ® 9: Knox Karns ® 10: @ Dobyns Bennett ® Out of Conference Opponents: Sullivan South (@ or v.), Tennessee High (@ or v.), ? (@ or v.), ? (@ or v.) *I understand Science Hill was going to try and refigure their out of conference home/away games so as to not repeat last years home/away mess. Also, I know Sullivan South was added to the out of conference schedule, I assume Tennessee High will remain, and rumor is Morristown West is scheduled. Does anyone know the full out of conference schedule and their week home/away affiliation?

  11. I have tried contacting Coach Daniels, the AD, to no response concerning Dobyns Bennetts out of conference games for the upcoming year. I know the order of the schedule, so help me fill in the blanks if you can. Tennessee High (home/away?) William Blount (? - can someone confirm this game and whether home/away?) Knox Bearden - H Oak Ridge - H Jefferson County - A Out of Conference - H (does anyone know and whether home/away?) OPEN Sevier County - A Knox Karns - A Campbell County - H Science Hill - H Any help would be much appreciated. Roll Tribe.
  12. I'd have to say wait til after the Arby's. The Indians obviously have superior talent compared to 75% of the Big 9. That fact is evident with their shalacking of Volunteer on Tuesday and the inability of some Big 9 teams to beat 2A teams. Dobyns Bennett under Charlie Morgan is always around the top at the end of the regular season is usually one of the teams to advance to the regional. I don't see why it would be crazy to expect the same results this year. The talents there, the kids just have to want to win, which I believe they do.
  13. Science Hill I always wonder about. Growing up Johnson City football is usually always better than average but always missing something. The talent is there, maybe its only coaching, maybe its a combination of raw talent and coaching, or maybe its the culmination of raw talent, coaching, and personal problems on behalf of the players. Just an observation after conversing with some Science Hill grads on the issue.
  14. I thought it to be ludicrous too. It would be social suicide for Curt to transfer. Good luck on Friday, put it to'em.
  15. Granted, I am aware of my double talk and no I'm not trying to snooze up to anybody. I'll follow my Dobyns Bennett Indians, first round loss or not. Allow me to conjecture just the same as do all others on coacht. Although, let me clarify. I believe Morristown West has a legitimate shot at winning the 4A state championship. Their undefeated, talented, and always find a way to win. I believe they have a better chance at beating Maryville IF they get there. There immediate opponent, your Tennessee High Vikings, is their biggest obstacle at present. In that sense give'em heck. Tennessee High, my Sullivan County neighbor, has a legitimate chance at beating Morristown West. Your Vikings always come to play, and play hard you will. You have alot of talent and I would love to see the upset. I was at the Dobyns Bennett game, I was at the Sullivan South game, Sullivan North game. I've seen what your strengths and weaknesses are. The thread topic, however, concerns whether Morristown West can win the 4A state championship. Let me summarize, I say Go Trojans! in the sense of trying to bring a state championship back to east Tennessee and I say Go Vikings! in the sense of rooting on a city rival/friend. I do appreciate you bringing up my hypocracy however. Considering the game, I say Go Vikings! pull off the upset. If you want to claim I'm kissing up to you now and that I'll continue my make whoever complains at the time happy...disregard the notion. It won't happen. Further clarification usually settles things. Hope this explanation was satisfactory. Go upper east Tennessee football, Go Vikings! give'em heck!
  16. Sorry to hear that about Coty, good ball player, played with real heart. Just wanted to know if anyone else had heard this, heard from a friend today that Dobyns Bennett and Sullivan South agreed to play next year, maybe as the last time. I would enjoy that, a non conference schedule of William Blount, Oak Ridge, Tennessee High, and Sullivan South (instead of Elizabethton) seems more exciting and beneficial. Anyone heard the rumor of DB v. South for one more year?
  17. Does anyone have any information beyond possibly adding Sullivan South to the Science Hill schedule. Alot of information out there for Dobyns Bennett, I want to know about Science Hill as well.
  18. If Morristown West does move up the 5A Region 1 I think they will do fine. Daniel Boone, on the other hand, will get pounded week in and week out and a one dimensional running attack will be unsuccesful. Classification changes in 2009 or 2010 will be interesting, hopefully it will benefit the Big East.
  19. Sounds good. Although a big fan of J. Fred, the Castle in Bristol has an aire of history just the same. Good luck to you guys on Friday, give Morristown West heck.
  20. Morristown West is a strong team this year, as they always are year in and year out. The only thing that worries me about the Trojans is their tendancy this year to allow teams to hang around. After jacking up the score in the fourth quarter the team looks unbeatable on paper. My advice to the Trojans would be to seize the opportunities and put it to your opponent. I'd like to see an upper east Tennessee team bring home the gold ball. Oh, and can Morristown West beat Maryville; I say why not?! Maryville is not invinsible although most think they are. Morristown has beat them before (I could be wrong and feel free to correct me). Usually I root for my Sullivan County bretheran but I feel Bristol is underachieving this year. Tons of talent with a conservative one dimensional Coach calling the plays, can't and won't bring home the gold ball. Go Trojans from a guy in Kingsport.
  21. Go Rebs, beat the Canes. Curt Phillips and the Rebel passing attack will be to much for the run oriented Morristown East Hurricanes. I'll be in attendence since my Dobyns Bennett Indians blundered last week at home. Also, I'm hearing rumors Phillips is considering transfering to DB...anyone heard anything?
  22. I'll give my opinion on middle school football in Jefferson County. I am not familiar with White Pine or Strong and therefore can not comment on their talent levels or futures but I was able to see Jefferson and Maury play here in Kingsport against John Sevier. What I saw was a bright future. Being a Dobyns Bennett grad and fan I enjoyed the DB v. Jeff Co. rivalry games of old with Jeff Jennings and Scooter Houston. This year was ugly for your Patriots and I was sad to see that. However, Jefferson and Maury show promise. Their size and strength will be a plus going into high school. I hope to see your skill players continute to develop, they run tough through the trenches. If White Pine and Strong are as good as you say they are, I don't see why Jefferson County shouldn't be competing for the 5A-Region 1 title in a few years. The future looks bright for you guys, hope it all comes together for you, coming from a fellow Region 1 supporter. Go Indians, Go Patriots.
  23. Dobyns Bennett fan here, but rooting for Riverdale in this one. I know it seems perplexing an Indian fan pulling for the 'Dale but they are a good team who can run the ball down and around your throat. Was at the Riverdale v. Dickson County game and saw just that. Control the line of scrimmage and you might have a chance in the second half...but I don't see that happening here, not taking away from Lincoln County's program. Region 3 is weak, Region 4 is dominate. Give'em a game though Lincoln, make'em earn it. Riverdale by 14 in this one.
  24. Hope to hear of a good game, but I'm pullin for the Smoky Bears in this one. Their defense can keep them in games, it will come down to the offenses. Sevier County by a touchdown.
