  1. Not a board member, just a teacher on the crap end of things that had to cover for him during his paid leave for over 4 months while I didn't have a planning period. Those are absolutely the "facts" and any of the teachers who were there then will tell you the same thing. They tried their best at the school level to keep him, but by that time it was already a BOE call on the local and state level. He even admitted to what he did in the paper in front of the BOE, one of which (working on the problems) hadn't been brought up until he admitted it to the BOE. He would have been a good coach there over time, but he wasn't mature enough yet so the kids ran over him on the field as well as the classroom. He's in a good place now and will grow. I believe we'll see his name as a head coach again one day.
  2. This could not have been handled on a building level. A student reported to their parent which reported to the School Board that the teacher left the classroom during a state assessment for over 10 minutes. Additionally, he admitted to opening the test book while the students were taking the test (immediate grounds for termination in TN). On top of that, he admitted to working individual problems during the test (immediate grounds for termination in TN). He could and should have been terminated immediately else the school system would have come under state review. Knox Co. and the school held out as long as they could giving him paid leave from December-April (causing students not to have a licensed teacher) and then he gave his resignation voluntarily in order to keep his teaching license in TN.
  3. I think they could win 8-10. The only hiccups for an undefeated season are Smith and Oneida in my opinion. Oneida is pretty good but play A so who knows on that and Smith is Smith. Always good.
  4. I like to look at the non-district teams schedules to gauge "how hard do you play." According to the numbers and last years outcomes, it looks like this: 1) Smith County 2) Dekalb 3) Cannon 4) Upperman 5) LA 6) York There is of course more to it than that (Upperman losing coach and offense, DC losing a few key players, cannon's new coach + offseason drama, York's new coach, LA coming off it's 3rd consecutive 1-9 season). I hate to say it, but Smith seems to be the only one with a good history of reloading and no major stories. Is this how you all see it shaping up this year? Personally, I think it will look more like 1) Smith 2) DeKalb 3) York 4) Cannon 5) LA 6) Upperman But that's my opinion and worth exactly what you paid for it. What's your pickss coming out of the Spring. No matter the outcome, I think it will be a good and interesting season of football to watch.
  5. I just saw that yesterday in the H-C. Whoever they get next isn't going to be paid much and is gonna be fighting an uphill battle. Graduating 13 Seniors including virtually the entire offense and the entire secondary. In a pass happy conference, that's not going to be good. I hope Chambers steps up and takes it, he would be good for those kids.
  6. Congrats to Zach Rogers on a good senior season and winning 3A back, but I still think that no one in the state was a better player than Hunter Poteete from DeKalb. Led DC to first playoff win ever, first winning season in a long time, finished 9-3, went 177-320 in the air for 2,775 yds and 37 TD, rushed for 892 yds and 9 more TD's. That's an average of 15.7 yds/comp and 8.7 yds/att along with rushing an average of 4.6 yds/carry. All told he was responsible for 3,667 yds and 46 TDs which is 3.8TDs and 305.6 yds per game. He's only a junior, but so what. Last time I checked, that's not one of the qualifications of being the best in the state. To me, this just wasn't right. /sleep.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="-_-" border="0" alt="sleep.gif" />
  7. 8-28 Stone Memorial W 9-4 Smith Co. L 9-11 Cumberland Co. W 9-18 Upperman W 9-25 White Co. W 10-2 Cannon Co. W 10-9 Anderson Co. L 10-16 York W 10-23 Macon Co. W 10-30 DeKalb Co. L Looks like 7-3 to me
  8. Man, Collier's crazy. Somebody on here earlier in the season referred to him as Animal off of the muppets. I think he'll jump in there and do a good job. Lawrence was faster, but Collier is one of them run-over you kind of guys
  9. I think I might get it, maybe. According to the T$$AA, the top two teams are automatically in. If DC is #1 and LA #2, then both are automatic qualifiers. The language isn't really that great but it seems to imply that no less than half of the teams are automatic. Rule #1 half of teams are in, Rule #2 top two teams are in. If you don't fall under one or the other, you got a wild card chance. A little better than what I originally thought.
  10. Hold on. If DC beats LA, are they automatically in because they would be the top 4A team? What if LA only lost the one game and finished in the top 2? Would there be 2 automatic qualifiers and no wild card? To add a little to the depth of DC, They are losing their 3 D-linemen, majority of LB's starting running back, starting CB/WR, and a couple good O-linemen. So about 7 on D and only 4 or 5 on O are movin on.
  11. Ok, correct me if I'm wrong here but under 4b it says that One half of the teams in each group (6A, 5A) in each district are automatic qualifiers. Therefore, the only game LA has with playoff implications is against DeKalb. Technically, if LA goes 1-9 beating only DeKalb they would be an automatic qualifier? /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
  12. That's not that crazy of a question devil. We have almost begun to figure out 2a and now they throw this at us. The key to the season is just go out and win. If you lose one or more, who knows.
  13. Sorry about that glover, had your post on the mind when I was typing and got carried away. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  14. Let's see, 17-0 at the end of the 1st, 32-0 at half time. 96 total yards by East. Sounds like you guys played an 8th grade team. Cheerleaders dressing out and playing in the 2nd half (I hope I'm kidding on that last one). As close to a bye as you can get without officially having one.
  15. If I'm not misunderstanding, I think glover isn't upset about playoffs as much as he is about having a 9-team region/district whatever. He just seems like he's from jackson, but I think he's complaining about the whole 8 set games that limits who they play outside of the district. Gordonsville and Trousdale will most likely play Smith and they'll only have one more game outside the region. Jackson and Monterey will probably play Upperman and have one more. I see where he's coming from on the season. The playoffs are a different story though.
  16. This one is kind of tricky. DC will be playing for coach edwards and full of emotion. Last game they focused on the run so much that they got beat deep. WH might be a little rusty after a first round bye. I know, I know, this is playoffs and both teams will have emotion, no one is overlooking anyone, WH has seniors and so does DC. We can go on and on. I say, go DC, congrats to Poteete on his upcoming Mr. Football award, and DC wins 20-17 (since there'll be more running and time will trickle by the score won't be too high) Good game, great atmoshpere.
  17. Lineman coach. Good guy. His son is #1 for Dekalb, starting CB and WR. You can look at more about him at www.dekalbcountyfootball.com
  18. Coach Edwards was a great guy and cared a lot for the kids at DC. Him, Rudy, and coach Trapp has done a lot to motivate these kids this year. Abram, his son, was one of my best receivers this spring there and Clay was real proud of him. We'll be praying for the Edwards' family this week. Good luck DC.
  19. I'll go with: Round 1 Alcoa CAK Loudon Happy Valley Boyd Tyner Marion Smith Lewis Goodpasture CPA Fairview Milan Westview USJ Carver Round 2 Alcoa Loudon Boyd Marion Lewis CPA Milan USJ Round 3 Alcoa Marion Lewis Milan Round 4 Alcoa-Lewis Alcoa champs 21-17
  20. So I heard that UT was coming to the hole to check out their new coach. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  21. Gonna be a nice one. Going by the numbers, McMinn should come out on top, but their opponents are only 43-57 combined to DC's 48-52. Strength rating tips the nod to Dekalb ranking them at 30 and McMinn 43. I'd say strength of schedule comes into play here and DC comes out on top 35-24 /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  22. Origionally I was thinking region 4 would be out in the 1st round, however, the Bees REALLY helped Smith out. I think Smith runs over Sequatchie and gets beat in a close one against Marion. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  23. To avoid conference matchups, wouldn't it look more like: 1. Boyd 2. Westmoreland 3. Marion 4. York 5. Tyner 6. Smith 7. Sequatchie 8. DCA So first round would be: Boyd v. DCA Marion v. Smith Westmoreland v. Sequatchie York v. Tyner
  24. I'll one up you wishbone DC: 38 MC: 7 /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  25. I agree with Poteete from DeKalb. Through 9 games has roughly 2254 passing yards with 28 TD passes, and roughly 836 rushing yards with 6 TDs. Total is over 3000 yds and 34 TDs. That's good numbers and the team is 7-2, in the playoffs for the 1st time in 12 years, and has their 1st season winning over 3 games in who knows how long. I say give it to Teete. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
