  1. Tadvols. 7-3. AE, Alcoa, and a split with MoWest/East. ruse?
  2. Might have been the TCFA (Coaches Team). AP out next week. ruse?
  3. Big publics pay more than smaller privates. Coached on both side of it.
  4. Irish, Scott, and Naked: Overstated ? I think not. Never said Pemberton was scared, just a nice easy district @ OR vs. what Catholic will be up against. All he would have to do is beat Hardin Valley & Karns for a #1 seed in 6A. Money and talent follow wins. It's a pretty nice set-up at OR as well. Anybody who goes 8-2 or better in year 1 there could run/win/be the mayor. I'm sure Pemberton is well taken care of. Base pay of job would be higher @ OR. Base pay of job + titles would be a lot higher IrishBBall. You've been around. Check Rankin's figures. You know how that works. As far as talent...yes, lots of it at both. Plenty of the talent available at OR just did not want to play football. The feeders at both are good. Better feeder program at Catholic in terms of structure, better talent at OR IMO. I'm sure that if he were to go there, he would have them at 8-2, and at least a round #2 appearance in the playoffs in year one. Once that happens, all the AC/Clinton, etc defectors would be back in que ready to go. It's a sleeping giant guys. It'll wake up. Don't get all prickley. I'm just saying, if I were looking, I would go after the guy...and hard. You should go after the best available. Capitalism, not Catholicism. I just hope he stays in the area. GA, and AL have a lot of openings at some big time programs. ruse?
  5. Hey Rocking Chair. I hear you on those points. OR has tons of talent, some of which did, or has not played for a myriad of reasons. Pemberton would get them out there. OR can pay more for sure. Multiple titles along with "HC"...Associate Prince, AD, etc. If I'm Pemberton, I'm looking at Mville, Farragut, Bearden, and Billy B, year in & out for 4, vs. AC, Clinton, Karns, and Hardin V. All I have to do is beat Karns and HV for a #1 seed. By that time I have my old school playbook in, players on board, butts in seats, boosters behind me, and that is just year 1. He'd have that thing turned in 2. Does he not hail from Rockwood. Close to home? ruse?
  6. Don't bet against it. More talent. Well it's walking the hallways, more money, closer to his home town (I think), very easy district for 09-13 relative to playoffs, and he's done all he can do at Catholic. Again, I would not bet against it. ruse?
  7. Young? No. Energetic, as in "rah, rah," No. Coach? Yes. If OR does not go hard after Pemberton, and if he doesn't take a hard look, both parties would be nuts. The guy is a program builder. OR needs just that. It's not like taking over at Alcoa as Rankin did. Tougher job @ OR, IMO. Obviously, the guy gets a lot out of his talent, is well respected in the coaching comminity, and knows how to win. I would think OR can pay more than Catholic, the talent would be better, and the district is playoff friendly for the next 4 years. I'd rather see him in the area than get recruited away to some program in GA, or AL, which is what I've heard also. ruse?
  8. Better than a bowel movement? ruse?
  9. OR might not be a better team next year, but they should have a better record. The only two teams they will have to beat to lock up a #1 seed are Karns & Hardin Valley (which played a JV only schedule this year). The other 5A teams on the sched. within the district are all beatable, no guarantee, but beatable. 7-3 is likely. ruse?
  10. Tadvols. Well whatever Anotnio is up, I hope that it is in the spirit of some sort of betterment. Great player. 6-2, 295, and could run. I remember when he was just a sophomore, playing LB on the inside at 265. Might have been the best pure DL prospect in the area in the last 15 years. His feet were so quick, and his balance so good, and man he was strong. I guess it would have been his senior year when he lined up at FB for Rogan in the championship game in the 2nd half. Rogan had maybe 180, and I'll bet 140 of it came in the 2nd. The best DL/OL match-ups I've seen around here were between him and the Tait kid when they just absolutely beat the snot out of each other. People all hyped the Rogan/Smith match-ups, which was fine; however, those two got after it. I hope he comes through. Deebo too. ruse?
  11. Tadvols. How is AHAM? Still playing down in MS @ JUCO, or someplace else, or not at all? Thanks. ruse? BTW, IrishBBall is right, the Catholic Super Midget team just rolled this year, and with 8-10 sophomores starting on Catholic's varsity, I would expect the frosh/JV to be down.
  12. Catholic will be fine in their new district. Here is why. Previous performance is a fine indicator of future performance. When Catholic went into 2-3A, they were picked by most (including me) to do no better than 4th. AE or Fulton at the top, with AC, Kingston/Catholic. They did fine then. They have grown in numbers, and developed a an even better feeder program since then. Their 8th grade team won the league, that I believe includes some of the Knox. Co. teams they will play in 6A district play & 5A playoff play. According to the broadcasters yesterday they only had five starters back from last years team. So what? That means talented depth is there. They have a bunch coming back next year. They will give Mville, Farragut, Bearden, West, Billy Blount all they want. I'm not suggesting they will beat them all, but it would not surprise me. Farragut will be strong (they beat Mville in a scrimmage this past fall). I know. Bearden with Young, and the new QB, along with a much more experienced line will be good. Meadows is back at Billy B. Maryville lost, so they will be out to restake their claim. Cummings has West pointed in the right direction. District is going to be fantastic viewing for an old fan like me. Catholic will be in the mix. MM should roll through next year. Fine team. ruse?
  13. Nope. From what I've seen over the years, and more this than previous, is Catholic mixing up their fronts/coverages. They focus on one threat, and do what they can to eliminate it. Saw then do it with Rogan. They were not going to give up the quick score. That meant no Malone, and no QB rolling. Make MM go the distance, the long way. Like Fulton or AE, MM, because they had so much success with that over the course of the year went to the well to get something that was not there. I agree, they should have run Gibson back to Memphis, but the temptation to try what worked all season was too great. Fulton figured that out 2 yrs ago, and used a kid named Freeney to knock them out instead of Rogan. BTW, I'm not a Cat fan, but I do appreciate what they do. Gibson is the real deal, and the Neal kid is going to be a good one too.
  14. Fine game. Catholic has made many a staff & team frustrated with just as much, if not more talent than what MM has. Ask Fulton & AE. Not a shot Turtle or Photo. MM has some nice players, and will be back next year. Catholic as well. Both very young teams. ruse?
  15. crazybdpfan. Not a Catholic fan, but certainly an unabashed fan of Knox area football. 1st time I actually saw Catholic in person this year was last friday. WH has a nice team, rich tradition, and are very, very well coached. Most of the folks know me on here as more of a Fulton patron than anything else Towards that end, I missed not seeing the Falcons trump Catholic after losing to them in the regular season. Couple things on WH. They will be back, and better next year than this. You'll get that with a very talented rising senior QB more than any other position. IMO, Catholic should have resolved the seating issue before it happened. Poor planning. WH fans, like Catholic fans, and most others, unfortunately get painted by the same brush of a few self-involved posters. WH fans that I overheard were like any other... Anderson Co, Fulton, Mville, Alcoa, etc. Good folks enjoying football without all the commercialism associated with the NFL or BCS. I've never written anything complimentary of Catholic outside of some of their players over the years. What they did after the 4 Scott County Cheerleaders were killed earlier this season was pretty strong. My sense is that WH would have done the same, as would most other schools. Couldn't tell you the kid's name that was introduced at 1/2 time. What I did hear was that he was a graduate of Catholic in 2000, I think. He was a West Point appointee, and picked up both a Silver & Bronze star for valor in combat situations. That ain't no gimmee. I'm sure both WH, and Fulton have produced the same caliber of person. The bottom line is that behind all the fandom, passion, etc; the coaches, administrators, parents, and communities are producing the type of kids that are capable of defending more than a goal line. They defend our right to type right here, right now. ruse?
  16. Very good HS game. WH is much improved over the course of the season. I watched the Alcoa and the the 2nd SC game, and then last night. Greenwade will play on Saturdays. A few others as well. Tale of 2 halfs. WH controlled 1st, and listening to Pemberton post game, he said they were a much improved team, and that they dominated the 1st half. Caught them off guard. Catholic just took control in the 2nd. They made some nice adjustments at the 1/2 (Getting #3 more involved & reall on defense). I have picked against them all year because of their youth. I read where they lost 17 starters from last year, and have 4 Soph starters on the OL, and 5 Soph starters on D. Guess they are not Sophs any longer. Both teams should be proud. Fulton vs. Mitchell would have been a great game. Guess this wiil have to do.
  17. Road. Still hitting the books, young man? ruse?
  18. Kid's name is Sam Williams. If he plays SEC, it will be in the secondary. He could play MAC, OVC, SoCon, etc at RB. Think Rogan without as much wiggle, but perhaps more explosiveness into the hole. Kid can play. Be a good PR/KR. He has onions. ruse?
  19. I'll chime in tomorrow or so. Still doing a little snooping. Did actually make it to one Irish game this year, and caught them on wazoo a few times. White house? Saw a tape of Alcoa, and am going to check another out tonight. Station Camp. Anyway, 3rd Down will be big as I see it. "There's the big ah-ha." I do miss the Falcons being here. It just never got old. ruse?
  20. Stay on topic folks. Some of what has been posted here is not appropriate for all concerned. Banter is fine. Personal attacks, and profanity will get this shut down, and or those responsible for posting inappropriate comments tossed. Further, we all need to be mindful of the effort, drive, determination, and class demonstrated by players, coaches, fans, parents, school administrators, and others that have worked to allow these two fine teams to play. These young men would not be expected to behave or communicate, on or off the field in the manner in which some on here are. Let's not have a double standard, respect the kids, their accomplishments, and the game. ruse? PS. Hello, Photo.
  21. Hey Painted. Heard from a birdie last week that Catholic has been working Rankin to get a game. Whatchaknow? ruse?
  22. Outlaw12. Some will, and some won't. The curious question is, which ones won't? "ChiTown" is out. DJ in or out, and are there perhaps folks with like names? Been quiet on a number of fronts regarding who the other six are.....and understandably so. Know this. With or without any or all of the above, AE will field as talented and athletic a team as there is in 3A. Turtles' a pretty smart fellow. He's kept the focus on the "punishment fitting the crime." Not on "who is in, and who is out." Watch, AE will be emotionally charged, looking for a release, and with a full faith that they can wear Catholic out, while they think they have a free pass to the semi-finals. Coach Graham will have them ready. So too, will Coach Pemberton. Some might think it won't be a game. IMO, it will be a goooodun. ruse?
  23. Turtle. What would Wendell say, and do? What would Coach Anderson say, or do? Come on Turtle. Come on! ruse?
  24. Thought this would get interesting in a hurry. Maryville has won a few. Bearden shoulda, coulda, woulda beat Smyrna in the semis last yr, are pretty talented, and have one of the top, legitimate D1 RB in the state for 2011 in Devrin Young. Kid got worn dow as the year went on, but with another year maturity, he will be a "take over" type player next yr. Farragut might just get there this year, and the next. Save the melt down by Courtney vs. the Owls (not saying it wasn't justified) they would be unbeated at this point. William Blount was down this year, but was the last team to really push Mville in their battle in 08. Meadows will be back. Knox West is on the rise. Cummings has done a good job there. Catholic with only 600 or so students might have depth issues. On the other hand, they are starting something like 8-10 sophomores this year, so they should compete. It will be interesting to see where all these wind up at the end of this season, and to take a good look at what they have comming back. Pretty sure all the head coaches are. ruse?
