  1. Friday's scrimmage was the first of the season. The team played Alcoa; I don't know if Alcoa is down this year, but West made them look that way. The game was a tie at 14 all but the score was somewhat deceiving- Alcoa's second touchdown came with the second team defensive line in the game. JJ Goforth rolled off an 80+ run for a touchdown and Sean Jones hooked up with Tyrell McKinney for 6 as well. The team will be quarterbacked this year by Senior Sean Jones. Jones has waited his turn to command this team and with the graduation of Logan Wild, Jones will get his first look. Jones is a kid of great character and his arm strength and speed aren't bad either. The tailbacks will be strong again too. JJ Goforth will get the bulk of the carries with Terrell Fredericks getting some totes in his spot. The team will rotate tailbacks to an extent and both will be good weapons. The trio of fullbacks features no star but is one of the most solid units on the field. Jordan Bishop will see most of the time and will get most of the carries. Equally capable are Jordon Jones and Stephen Hotz. Bishop is the best runner, Hotz the best blocker and Jones somewhere in the middle of each. The offensive line will be solid. This is perhaps the biggest question mark on the team- not because they're necessarily weak but if the offense is at all similar to that of past years, the team will live or die through the blocking of the five guys up front. Sisco and Morie anchor the tackle spots. I'll find out more about the line this week. On defense, the strength of the team is going to be right up front and as strong as it's ever been. Nathan Bush and Alan Roach are two of the biggest and strongest guys to come through in a while. They will tear up opposing offensive lines. Anyone who saw Bush destroy the Morristown East offensive line last year as a Sophomore will know what he is capable of. The linebacking corps will be strong with Phillip Cantwell anchoring the center. Cantwell is a big hitter and a good leader. The secondary will get strong play from Senior standout Cedric White. It's early yet, but there's a storm brewing at West High School. I can't wait to see how well this team can come through on their early promise this fall. Feel free to correct or add anything on here.
  2. I think you've already used your stupid play of words on my name already. Sorry kid, try again. I don't have any faith in someone who fumbles two or three times in a game. Especially two straight fumbled passes on consecutive offensive plays.
  3. I hope Patrick Hodge never gets another pass thrown to him.
  4. It's not bad at all. The one thing that needs changing is this: On the top and bottom, you have the black little bars with white writing. These bars do not accommodate users using 1024x768 resolution on their monitors. It causes horizontal scroll to come in play, which is a very, very bad thing in the web design business. I would suggest nerfing those bars. Overall, sharp site.
  5. JJ Goforth is going to be getting work at tailback with Stephen Hotz leadblocking for him. Both are Juniors. Goforth is a very talented kid. Hotz is no Wes Hale, but he's a strong kid and a hard worker.
  6. You kind of showed your ignorance when you suggested that a wideout and a defensive back rotated... Actually, yes they did rotate. When the offense went out, the defense came in. Wow dude...
  7. Starters I know that we lost: -Joe Brown -Joseph Wiggington -Caylan Reece -Quentin Greenlee -JJ Sims -Drameece Kyle -Tell Fanney -Nate Bruce -Wes Hale And I know that there are more guys than that on the line, too, I just don't know many of the linemen.
  8. Yeah, because of the situation at Burke-Toney in which it gets used for EVERYTHING imaginable, we had to turf it.
  9. Hey, real CLEVAR! You know, you can be a fan of your school and show some respect to other teams as well. Coach Hatcher IS a heck of a coach. But you're one of the biased ones I spoke of...
  10. The only thing I don't like about Coach Hatcher is that he isn't wearing maroon. Man's a heck of a coach. Anyone who doesn't admit that is so biased they can't even think.
  11. Lots of players =/= lots of talent and success.
  12. I'm a big Morristown West fan, but I can't help but feel that this year is going to be reminiscent of our rough year three years ago. Why? 1) The offensive line. We lose Joe Brown and some other great offensive linemen. These guys were real lynchpins on the line and replacing them so far has been questionable at best. Rumor has it that the offensive line has been the team's weak point in their (thus far awful) scrimmages. 2) Overall quality loss. Wesley Hale, Quentin Greenlee, Drameece Kyle, Joe Brown, Joseph Wiggington, Tim Doute, Rabbit Lowery, JJ Sims, Heath Carr, and plenty more great players are gone. Thus far, replacements have not shown that they have what it takes. 3) Overall attitude. I've been around some of the players this Summer and am downright appalled at the attitude that has been exhibited. I'm not quite sure why they feel the need to celebrate and feel like they've already earned something, but I think it will be their downfall... I think they have quickly forgotten that the last two years have been the efforts of the UPPERCLASSMEN that are now gone. Like I said, I'm a huge Morristown West fan and will even tell you that I'm connected to the school, but I think that a bad year might be what it takes to get us back to the glory days of the last two years.
  13. Didn't you say that the Science Hill scrimmage was August 10th in another topic? August 10 is a Friday.
  14. As far as I know (and I only go to West and have friends on the team; I'm no definitive source), we don't have any 7 on 7 play over the Summer. I don't think an old schooler like Woods believes in stuff like that. It's really a shame because our passing game has pretty much stunk since the days of Drew Southerland.
  15. ksetrojan60, how's the offensive line looking this year? I think that's probably our big lossy area.
  16. Terrell Fredericks is a good player that's always been buried on the depth chart. From what I know, he's a great athlete, but kind of gets lost in the shuffle.
  17. Good job, Nate. You and the whole defensive line played excellent all night. You pretty handily dominated their offensive line. Good game by TN High, by the way. You guys tried.
  18. You have to have bullets ready to reload, though.
  19. My point is that East High's gifts are typical of their play- Morristown West's mistakes were not. Obviously, you don't watch West high enough to understand the type of game that they play on their best night. I sure wish you had been at the Tennessee High game this past Friday.
  20. Once again, East High wasn't in that game because they played so spectacular. West High was their own worst enemy in that game with a bad punt snap, missed XP's, and fumbles. Yes, Dockery fumbled the opening kickoff, but who says he won't do that again? Another thing that East High died by in that game was the coaching. What a terrible call throwing down by the goal line- the pass that was eventually picked off by J.J. Sims. It was a turning point in that game. Better game? Probably. Same outcome? Certain.
  21. I don't know if this has been said in this thread, but I just wanted to add that at the Morristown West game (I'm a student), we were told ALL NIGHT that Maryville had been defeated. I know some people that are pretty upset since they found out that Maryville pulled it off.
  22. We've got some other good runners, but it may be time to reload now. We lose our two best runners: Haley Moody and Tara Gietema. We return some pretty good runners, but those two are to be missed more than anyone can understand.
  23. East High staying in the game was not much thanks to East High, in my opinion. The way I saw it, East was in that game because of exploitations of West's mistakes, not because of their tremendously outstanding play. We had two fumbles (at least one for sure, pretty sure there were 2) and a punt that went over Holton Goan's head. East High is going to be ready to play, but I have faith in our outstanding players and coaching staff to put together a winning game plan, and go out and execute. Anyone upset that they aren't playing this game at Burke-Toney? I'm not. Quentin Greenlee is like a different player on artificial turf.
