  1. Coach Wright didn't that. Just was discipling some players.
  2. Catholic, CAK and Alcoa have all 3 played a very tough schedule. CAK's schedule was ranked #1 some of the early part of the season. A couple of teams in a tournament had poor records. The schedule was very top heavy. Played Siegel who is 26-1 and ranked 2nd in class AAA, Played Webb twice who is ranked top 2 in their class, played FRA who is a very strong private school in Nashville, played Science Hill and McMinn Central who are both very good. The schedule also featured Hamilton Heights who can't be ranked on strength of schedule because they are non TSSAA. They have a roster of 6'11 ( Vandy Offer) 6'9, 6'9 6'7 and a 6'4 ( Tennessee Tech)
  3. Catholic has a great shot to make a deep run. They have a lot of very good parts and a very good system. They have caught various bad breaks this year. Their best player has only played two games. Their point guard has been out along with a few others. Football success hurt them the first part of the year. They really bring a lot to the table.
  4. That was a great team and one of the best to never win it but Whitestation had 5 major D1 guys on their team that year. They were best team in state that year though Bearden got a lot of attention on the East end of the state. So many Memphis teams that could've won it but couldn't get out of their region also. A lot of Memphis teams have the kind of talent Bearden had that year every year. It's crazy
  5. just curious how good riverdale or oakland would be if siegel and blackmon hadn't been built? Or if ensworth didn't get a few of those players. Would maryville have a football dynasty? Crazy how much talent is there.
  6. Siegel and brentwood are both two pretty good public schools
  7. will just push it back a day if it snows.
  8. alcoa will be very tough to beat at alcoa.
  9. I believe it will be a coin flip. A couple of years ago this happen with Alcoa and Stone. I think that format only works with the teams not in first. For instance if Scott and Catholic had tied they would've went head to head then next highest team. I don't think the two top teams base it on how they did against the teams below them. That used to be the answer but think that changed 3 years ago. But not sure if thats right.
  10. George Pitts Science was loaded during his time but really did they have the talent a Memphis team has on a year in and year out basis? Science Hill did have a ton of talent but not top in America which Pitts led them to top 10 nationally twice. He also beat Oak Hill. During the BA days he had a NBA player but he beat teams that had the nations best talent. BA beat St. Patricks out of NJ and a team led by Gereald Henderson and wayne Ellington. Both players played in ACC at Duke and UNC. That tournament also had St. Anthony's led by Bob Hurley. Terry Tippett
  11. Alcoa is playing great ball. Coach K is doing a great job with the before mention wins. Not many coaches in a career can say that. He will have many years of great success. Unfortunately for CAK they haven't played in two weeks. CAK starts two freshman but have three very good experienced players. Wrong team to be rusty against. Catholic is very very young and as that youth continues to grow they will be a handful for anyone. Hutch and staff will get them there. Scott is very good. Kingston is always dangerous with CN Great league
  12. I think the comment about the Murfreesboro schools is very on point. It's just really hard to compare the past with the present. The best football game (92 OakRidge vs Central) I've seen and maybe team was the 1992 Oak Ridge team and maybe the Alcoa folks will disagree but I still think the Shannon Mitchell/ Billy Williams Alcoa teams are the best of the Alcoa bunch. I'm def not an expert but just going on games I've seen. Alcoa is still close to putting out the same level of athlete but Oak Ridge just doesn't seem the same but I could be wrong. I'm just curious mythical or not if Blackman and Siegel kids went to Oakland and Riverdale what the Maryville record would be. Also Ensworth has been getting a lot of those kids see Corn Elder should've been at Oakland. If we had a 3 class system how many titles would Alcoa have? I think they only had 2 or 3 before the jump to 4 and 6 classes. Not discrediting what they've done at all because they are as good as anyone year and year out but a playoff system that made for back to back games of cak, fulton or greenville makes for a tougher road than playing very poor teams for 2 to 3 rounds. Still think most years Alcoa comes out on top but it would make for some good theater. At the end of the day sports aren't as big a deal in small towns like they used to be. Even the small town kids are doing other things social media etc. The private schools especially in Nashville area take the good players. Then you have the open zone schools and those like Maryville and Alcoa that can get kids by paying a small tuition. Those factors all hurt places like Loudon and Kingston. Heck who would ever see the day AE goes 1-9 and 0-10 plus the basketball team is average. They lose kids to West and Fulton like crazy. Not to mention kids go to HV and Farragut because of the old no child left behind act. I hate it and the sense of pride in these special places start to decline.
  13. Depends on the year whether Atlanta is better than Memphis. For the past several years they've had a Memphis vs Atlanta Classic which usually alternates on which city is better. Not saying this year Memphis is better just saying many years Memphis is better. Melrose, White Station and Southwind have been at the highest level nationally in the past 5 years. Couple of years ago Oak Hill beat the 5th or 6th best team Craigmont by 1. My guess is White Station is the best team in Tennessee this year.
  14. The biggest difference is the two years Fulton won it they had 3 D1 players those two years.
  15. Great job by Coach Wallace and the guys for battling Karns. The young Mavs are getting better.
  16. Fulton will be missing a few guys and they always struggle this time of year but get much better as the season goes on. By mid January they will be state ready again. Unsure about Carter based on the schedule they've played so far but they have a nice team and a system of play that seems to be working well.
  17. Oak Ridge is really good. They play really hard and the style, competition and travel had to catch up with them a little. The win over Charlotte Christian (Steph Curry High School) is huge. They are a national level program.
  18. it's a great tournament but it's not at the level of the penny hardaway classic or marshall county hoopfest. i would love to see the best memphis team hope in it like it did years ago. CPA will boost the field if their in.
  19. Freshman Hunter Reynolds from CAK has stepped in for Oteriah Lee at point. Lee is one of the top senior guards in East Tennessee. Reynolds has played every minute the last two games and against some great competition such as FRA and GCA has 25 assist and 6 turnovers for the season in 4 games. Another good freshman Cole Smith will be joining soon. Not saying these guys are the best but they are very solid.
  20. Agree.. Fulton and AE are the only teams in Knoxville that can compete with Memphis type talent. I think Bearden has been close but Memphis AAA teams are just another animal. No team from Knoxville can play with those teams.
  21. CAK has 25 players only 2 seniors (one is injured) and 3 juniors only one has experience. The schedule is brutal early and the lack of experience will show. However, Keck is really solid and Campbell could be as good as anyone to play at CAK when his time is up. Depth and youth are going to be the issue. Think Catholic might be the top team but Once again don't sleep on Scott Co.
  22. Don't think they're fair weather. Most will be at the beach for fall break.
  23. Cak lost nick Campbell and Brett Kendrick. They return everyone else. Look for freshman qb cole smith to make an impact and Lucas Campbell should have a very good year. Lee could miss till Christmas. Keck is back. Alcoa should be good and I'm sure catholic will be right there with them. We split with Alcoa last year and lost our last two to catholic. Hard to judge the catholic games being they were in November and cak didn't have its football players which have been a huge part of their team. My thoughts would be catholic and Alcoa at top followed by Scott cak and Kingston in no particular order. I will say this I think Scott county will be a tough team this year.
  24. I know in class 3A has 53 teams with what 32 teams getting a playoff spot?. It's a pretty fair league for everyone in my opinion. I can remember when 8-2 teams that didn't finish in the top 2 spots in their district not make the playoffs.
