  1. Did you now your chain crew also has to work on the restraining line. I hear you about too many people shooting. I think only those people with official media passes should be allowed to shoot photos. I will manage, I was only looking for other people's opinion.
  2. Below is an e-mail that was sent out by Matthew Gillespie from the TSSAA this week. I was informed by an official at a Cornersville Middle School game a few weeks ago and began following the guidelines to see how it could affect the regular season. I know it actually went into affect last year, but it was not enforced in most locations. It stinks and I will tell you why. All I do now is run into some pretty big football players with some pretty expensive equipment following a play, scramble after the play to find a hole to shoot from, and in many instances between the length of the box I find it almost impossible to shoot good pictures from the line of scrimmage because the coaches get in the way, moving around all the time (And they should move around, it is their field). This is almost as bad as softball at the Spring Fling where the media is restricted to a box out in left field. How many of you have had to fight to get a good picture because most third base coaches dance around and go all the way up the line on a play at home? Why can’t there be boxes on both sides of the field? I know there are reasons to do this, but I want to hear everyone’s thoughts. Below is the e-mail I received from the TSSAA This e-mail is to bring to your attention a rule that might possibly effect you as we approach the upcoming football season. The first portion of the rule in the 2008 NFHS Football Rules Book (Rule 1-2, Art. 3 d.) was in place last year. It states: A 4-inch-wide retraining line shall be placed around the outside of the field, at least 2 yards from the sidelines and end lines, as an extension of the line limiting the team box are, except in stadiums where the total playing enclosure does not permit. The new rule (Rule 2-27, Art. 8) further clarifies who is not permitted beyond the restraining line. It states: A restraining line is a line placed around the outside of the field. No person, including but not limited to spectators, game administrators or members of the media, shall be allowed within the restraining line. A maximum of three coaches as well as permitted nonplayers are allowed within the restraining line in front of the team box, as provided for in Rule 9-8-3. We realize this might be a change for some of you as you cover games this year and we did not want you to be caught completely off-guard if you are informed to stay behind the restraining line while covering a game. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Matthew Gillespie
  3. Great tournament, but I hope the weather is better next year. Cold and wet the entire tourney and did not get to finish.
  4. Strong community support Dedicated and talented Coaches Parental involvement A group of kids, willing to go the extra mile, everyday A burning desire to win Play the best, anywhere and as Forrest Coach Becky Cheatham stressed all season, "Never give up, and never give in."
  5. All three public schools in Marshall County made up their minds up some time ago to play any opponent, anytime, and win. I have seen all the hard work and dedication it takes to play up to your opponent on the field. That does not belay the fact that will still know we are at a disadvantage. The recruiting thing is a very gray area if you think about it. I really don??™t think the privates have to recruit per say, they just have so much more to offer as far as curriculum, facilities, teacher to student ratio, and alumni with bigger bank accounts than most of the publics. If I lived in Nashville and could afford it, I would probably send my kid to Friendship or in Jackson to Trinity. Most just don??™t have that opportunity in the rural counties, so we just teach our athletes to game up and play anyone. It took us awhile, but this year our public schools, Forrest and Cornersville, finished #1 and #3. We will be ready again next year. Actually, it would be kind of boring if we did not the privates to chase down.
  6. Yes and the reason is that recruiting does happen at private schools and everyone knows it. Also, the same arrogance shown by private school coaches, athletes, and parents is also evident on this message board. Private schools need to have their own division and keep all their arrogance to themselves and just leave our public schools alone. Forrest proved on the field this weekend that women for women, they are much tougher than those with silver spoons. I am not saying they cheat; they just recruit and have more to offer to those they do recruit. Also, parents with money and they are the private school parents can afford the more expensive equipment, private lessons, and fees to buy into expensive travel ball teams where most public school parents cannot. In my experiences, coaches at privates have bigger salaries and there are more of them while at public schools, many assistants are unpaid, work for free for long hours, and then go home and bail hay till the sun goes down. Let's get real here people, it is unfair, everyone knows it, privates don't want to play each other because of the stiff competition, and something needs to be done about it.
  7. The Forrest Rockets, rained out last night, came back this morning and got a convincing five inning 13-3 win over F.C. Boyd in the District 9A opening round. Coy Shultz threw a solid complete game, giving up 3 runs on four hits, while striking out six. Micah Phifer did some heavy damage at the plate, going 2-3 with three RBI's, Seth Brothers was 2-2, got hit by a pitch, and drove in two. Dane Leonard came off the bench in the bottom of the fourth for a two run pinch hit single. Kris Alabarran drove home Jacob Davis with the game winner with no outs in the bottom of the fifth. Cascade is in action vs. Eagleville, while Forrest comes back this afternoon at 4:00pm to take on MTCS.
  8. I do know that the Marshall County game at Page is re-scheduled for Monday at 5:00pm.
  9. Forrest vs. Eagleville is scheduled for 11:00am @ The Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill.
  10. Marshall County 2 Spring Hill 1 Great game!!! Mieke Wallace goes the distance, Dricka O'Neal knocks in two, and Tigerettes clamp down on defense.
  11. What game were you watching? There was only one official error in the inning and that was on the last run scored by Forrest.
  12. Camille Cross hit the game winner for FC. It was a great game and I am sure these two teams will meet again.Stinnett pitched in all five games over the weekend for Forrest, what a warrior!
  13. The Chick-Fil-A Classic was cancelled due to heavy rain and thunderstorms at approx. 4:30 pm, just before the start of the quarterfinal round. Kudos goes out to the groundcrews who did a great job keeping the tournament going as long as they did under very bad conditions. Also, a big hand for all the particpating teams for sticking it out...the girls are all Warriors. Many other claps for all the parents, siblings, and fans for getting wet and cold, but staying to support thier teams. Would have liked to see it finish. Would have been some great match-ups.
  14. Long story between Cornersville and Forrest..goes back to a middle school football disagreement. I am trying to find a way to get all three schools back on the playing fields again.
  15. Bad news for softball fans. God bless to a quick healing!
  16. Where is the tournament held at?
  17. The Forrest Lady Rockets have now suffered six rainouts on the season, including Thursday's game in Florida. Forrest (6-1) did play Rutherford High School on Friday, winning 10-0. Shelby Stinnett went the distance, giving up 4 hits and striking out 6. Haley Mathis 2-4 Brianda Elmore 2-4 Amanda Daughrity 2-4 Shelby Stinnett 1-3 Gaby Bussell 1-3 Rachel Curtis 1-4 Bequi Bussell 1-4 The Lady Rockets will be back in action for an afternoon game on Tuesday at 12:30 at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill versus Cascade.
  18. She did and the first batter for Marshall County ended her string. She pitched well, but the Tigerettes really did not have much trouble hitting her. They had a two run homer and several extra base hits off of her. From what I understand, she is all Cascade has, so it will be a long year for her, especially in district play. Still, two perfect games back to back is quite a feat.
  19. The MCHS Tigerettes beat Cascade 6-1 today to remain undefeated on the season at 5-0. Addricka O'Neal hit a two run homerun off the centerfield scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth to seal Cascade's fate. Mieke Wallace started the game and went two innings before Kaya Harmon came in and shut-out Cascade the rest of the way. MCHS will have a big district game on Tuesday versus Giles Couty in Pulaski.
  20. Thank you ERA. Sorry if I sounded too harsh, I know it is a big job getting all the fields ready. Will have an alternate plan next time.
  21. I am not just talking about the media in Chapel Hill wise guy. Just a note on this website would have been sufficent for all the media. The media coverage is also beneficial for your tournament. Thank you for the info weave, I will do that.
  22. Tournament organizers need to do a better job of communicating with the media. I drove all the way from Chapel Hill to Hendersonville yesterday, only to find out the Forrest game was cancelled when I got there. What is the word on today and when will the games be re-scheduled if they are cancelled.
  23. Beth Hawn-Forrest....This young lady is a player!
  24. 7:00pm is the time. Get there early, the place will be packed and rockin!
  25. Thank you FBGIRL. I just talked to the MCHS AD and he confirmed the time for MCHS vs. Hickman County at 6:00pm.
