  1. For those curious: http://www.powellpanthersfootball.com/uploads/2011_Powell_Football_Stats_-_through_West.pdf
  2. Fair assessment. #49 for Hendersonville had been the aggressor for the last few plays prior to the "extra-curriculars", but he was not the only Commando instigating. Luckily it happened close to the HC sidelines and some coaches were able to grab players before anything got out of hand. For the record, #49 and an additional Commando were tossed from the game.
  3. A false start is a penalty. A false start on a play that results in a touchdown is still a penalty. Not sure where the confusion lies. As for the push-up penalties, I've been waiting for them to call it for a month now. It's unnecessary and it does show up the other team, so yes it is unsportsman like. Perhaps the secondary, and the team for that manner, should take this game as a warning: Never give the officials the opportunity to flag you for anything out of the ordinary, because eventually they will.
  4. A little of both actually, although Henry County certainly asked for a number of the penalties themselves.
  5. Apparently they also lost every single starter from their defense as well. Couldn't believe how many points they gave up.
  6. Noticed Melrose lost at Orange Mound to White Station by 50 over the weekend. Kinda sad to see how far they've fallen. I vaguely remember having a discussion where someone emphatically stated that no one would ever put a running clock on Melrose at Orange Mound...I wonder who that could have been?
  7. I may be mistaken but I believe Northeast had 1 play go for positive yardage in the first 1 1/2 quarters of the game, and that play was for 1 yard. They had to be around -40 yards at the end of the first quarter. Defensive line played like beasts tonight.
  8. I can see that point of view, but if they would have lost a Brandon Farmer or one of their other top players during garbage time, it effectively ruins their year. After all, they still have an outside shot of 2nd in the district, with a 3rd or 4th place finish fairly likely. That more than likely means playoff appearances, and anything can happen once you start the post-season. It just seemed narrow-minded to continue in an all-in effort when it obviously wasn't going to happen. Also, I believe their starting qb went out in an ambulance (I may be mistaken), if anything I'd think that would be a reminder to protect those invaluable to the team.
  9. When you still have starters in a game that out of hand, on-side kicking the ball, and throwing a hail mary at the end of the game, you kinda have it coming.
  10. HC Varsity 42 - Springfield Varsity 0 HC JV 7 - Springfield Varsity 13 congrats to the Springfield Varsity for pulling it out at the end!
  11. If the young man in question is even allowed to practice, let alone play, then that just confirms that the coaches/administration are a bunch of hypocrites who place winning a football game above even the safety of their own teachers. I would hope that the integrity of those in charge would not allow that to happen.
  12. Because most Henry County fans are bandwagon football fans (exhibit A would be the first round playoff game against West Creek) and very few care about basketball enough to even show up when the team is successful or when a big time talent plays. The student section at football games wasn't seen prior to the Hendersonville game, and only a dozen or so kids actively cheer during basketball games. Sadly, they're probably the best in the district, but no where close to being average for the state.
  13. Exactly. Kids hear the number "4.4" and see a guy that is fast, they'll then reason to themselves that they are just as fast as he is, so I must be a 4.4 guy too. Plus coaches will lie to a kid about their forties so that they think they're faster than what they are. Marsalis Teague was the fastest player I'd ever seen in person, and I think he ran a 4.5 when he got to Knoxville. Like SweetScience said, 4.5 is fast, 4.3 is crazy fast.
  14. Chris Johnson was getting looks from bigger schools at the start of his senior year in high school. However he broke his leg in one of the first couple of games and scared away many of the bigger programs. I also believe I heard concerns over his qualifying for college.
  15. Yeah, he appears fast, and I'm sure he's a really good player, but like someone else says, I don't think he's sub 4.4 fast. Some of you guys are acting like saying a guy is a 4.5 or 4.6 is an insult. That's still freaking fast.
  16. Considering your post shows a lack of reading comprehension, I can handle whatever you think of mine. Never said anything about having to be a 4.3 to be in college. As a matter of fact in my first post I clearly stated there were tons of guys in college who weren't (perhaps someone can read it to you). I said the guy might have run a 4.4, or he might not, I didn't see him run so I don't know. I do know that I don't trust random forty times from unconfirmed camps and meets after seeing too many guys who were "4.4 guys" who were closer to 4.8's. Also, I did a little research and although Michael Vick did not run the forty at his NFL combine, during a team minicamp he did reportedly run a 4.36 with an unconfirmed 4.25 floating out there as well. So while this kid may be fast, the Michael Vick comparison seems a bit far fetched.
  17. He may be that fast, he may not. I've never seen the kid play. Keep in mind, though, that even digital readouts will differ enough to make this conversation moot. But my point was that he said that they had MULTIPLE guys who could run 4.4's or under. Public high schools in Tennessee do not have that type of speed. They may be fast, but not that fast. I remember reading that when Rich Brooks took over for Kentucky 7(?) years or so ago, they only had a couple of guys themselves who were 4.4's or under. So am I to believe that a rural high school team in Tennessee has more speed than an SEC team? They may be fast, they may have one guy who's a legit 4.4, they might even have another close, but let's be realistic.
  18. ATTENTION TO ALL HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL FANS WHO THINK YOU HAVE GUYS THAT RUN 4.4'S ... you don't. There are only a few guys in the state of Tennessee that are legit 4.4 or under guys. 4.6 or 4.7 is fairly fast for high school, even the faster guys in the state are "only" 4.5 guys. Doesn't mean they aren't good players (most of the guys in the SEC right now aren't 4.3 guys), but let's stop with the crazy talk.
  19. We have now found the reason for Dickson's reported lack of speed, improper footwear. Of course a rainy forecast would make the Dickson coaches look like geniuses. I suppose that's the chance you take.
