  1. Goldsmith was more like "platinum" tonight. We had no answer. We couldn't tackle him. Don't take this wrong intense and tca fans but I have never seen one person carry a high school football team like he did and has apparantly been doing. He is special and credit the coaching staff for figuring out a way to win after starting 0-4. And credit players for unselfishly buying in and blocking for him. Good luck the rest of the way. We were not ready and abandoned the run in the first half...way too early. #23 was a force at nose tackle for tca and blocked well on offense. I can only remember a bad snap and one lost fumble and one turnover on downs as the mistakes for tca. The list for Aville wouldn't fit on here. Disapointing but we were beat fair and square.
  2. tca will score more than 13 and more than 16, hopefully not more than 21 or 24 tho. aville defense and offense is playing as well as any team its had in the past, minus the passing game and it aint bad. #19 coming back fresh has changed both sides of the ball and the team has jelled. bad news is sounds like tca has too. this game, as most do this time of year, will come down to mistakes and penalties. way back in week 3 I said we would probably see tca again even tho they were 0-4 and seeing them in round 2 would mean they had figured things out and would be no easy out. got to grit and grind and try to put a stop their run. 2 good teams, 1 season ends here.
  3. slugfest for sure. I hate that one team ends their run in round 2. have to contain goldsmith, limit big plays and play pretty much mistake free. wish it was the semifinal.
  4. 1 point win over Bruceton this year. Bruceton has the enrollment of a rural jr high approx. 50 per class...200-250 total students and your telling us that a 700 plus enrollment school isn't supposed to be the favorite? should have won by the mercy rule.
  5. negative may be all they hear because all he sees is negative. not much to be positive about and that's being honest. brown is a good coach what everyone here is forgetting is that its not his coaching style that has changed. its the kids he is coaching. that goes for everywhere and at all levels. kids cant take negativity and turn it into something positive like 20 years ago. kids today are too pacified and babied by parents (the ones that live with parents). 20 years ago it was called mens basketball now its more often than not referred to as boys basketball. kids cant mentally take being challenged they will just quit and go home. maybe brown should adapt his coaching style, or maybe parents should tell their kids to man up and take some criticism and use it as motivation to get better. basketball nor life is easy when the going gets tough, the tough better get their ####e$ in gear.
  6. a multiplier for open zoned schools was not even thought of until the recent vote to not split public and private. the prevailing theory is that the private sector (schools) lobbied the tssaa to distract them from the real issue (privates having an unfair advantage). The rebuttal to the public private split was that open zoned schools its not fair either. They succedded in distracting away from the real issue and got the split voted down by the narrowest of margins. that's what you can do with money, you can use it to buy influence. the truth is open zoned schools (like Adamsville) have to work even harder to outfit and train any influx of kids gained by a legal open enrollment therefore putting them at more of a disadvantage. The tssaa dropped the ball on the split and now has the privates begging to punish open enrollments. Would we expect any different from the privates? No. Would we expect any different from the tssaa? No. They have shown time and again that they do not care about the majority (public 220 some odd schools or more), rather they cater to the (25 or so) privates. I can understand it from a private school coaches or athletic directors view.I would beg, plead, and barter not to have to play other privates on a level playing field. Playing like minded and like abilities, and like funded programs would hurt each others programs. Its much easier to pick on the public schools who are at a clear disadvantage open enrollment or not.
  7. 19 is back and I say we run angry power I formations and make it a sloberknocker!
  8. i can see avillle coming out a little flat after the bye. wouldn't surprise me if they got down 7 or 14, hopefully not but it has happened. hopefully we can come out and not have that happen by having a solid first drive or two and set the tone early. like was mentioned above, jcs has nothing to lose so why not roll the dice. look forward to a good game.
  9. Aville has ran the gauntlet this year, no gimme games like in years past so far. Chester co 4a, Hardin co 4a, tca, perennial 2a power will get it on track and be a second round at least playoff team, baldwyn ms, bc no one else including The horses from htown wanted to play us. Mckenzie who is pretty darn solid. And to finish it off a large Alabama team to sharpen teeth for playoffs. A couple years back it seems when htown was in 2a rumor was they wanted no part of Aville. Now they talk smack playing that junior high 1a ball.
  10. I would not be surprised to see them go to the 4a semis or make the long trip in December. They are solid.
  11. . Which team is this you speak of? Also is jasper Marion co.? I am from west? Thx.
  12. Uh naw read again never said we were better. They beat us, mostly off turnovers, but they beat us fair, they were better. What I was saying is that they (Peabody) had a tougher game against Aville than they did against Marion co. And that Aville would in my opinion had a great shot at 2a title after having been there twice before and coming up short. Quit taking things out of context.
  13. 1 run out of traditional power I...about 15 yard gain or so would have been td if not for running into own teammate. What is wrong with running the traditional power I??? We struggled in the run game the rest of the night. Line up run straight ahead toward fullbacks backside and then toward daylight.
  14. I can say this if Aville holds onto 26-6 then 26-12 lead at Peabody last year in semis they would have cruised to the championship like Peabody did. Still hurts to have blown that lead on mistakes, kickoff return allowed and fumble as well as others. This year however, I hope Aville can get back to cookeville will be hard but nothing worth having is easy.
  15. I mean no disrespect to the coach, he sounds like a good one for sure. A lot of those kids over there, heck everywhere, are in a one parent or no parent home and the coach has to be coach and a father/ parent figure. It's a big responsibility and a fine line to coach hard/ encourage young men in the right direction. Kudos to him on a job that sounds like is being done well.
  16. Oh naw, I ain't talking about penalizing them. But simply schools should not get to choose which class they want to play in. Go by the numbers, if they are supposed to be 2a play in 2a, 3a, 4a etc etc. if you choose to play up the stipulation should be that if your numbers drop to where you are playing up 2 classes then you can only drop 1 class per counting period, this year 3a. Basically I am saying you shouldn't be allowed to jump up then down 2 all at once. Especially in memphis where everyone seems to be nomadic roaming from school to school with population shifts at schools fluctuating from year to year in the hundreds. Or memphis should just play for a city championship and leave the rest of the state alone, that would work too.
  17. don't get me wrong here, I think maybe aville or whoever in west can play with them on a flawless night. however I don't think the tssaa should allow a school to drop 2 classes, to the lay person it seems fishy. I know they may have really been 3a and played up in 4a, and if so I don't really think schools should have a say in playing up. they cant choose to play down so why allow anyone to play up. put them where they belong and no one will question the big 2 class drops in 1 season. to me if they chose to play up from 3a to 4, then they should at least have to play up from 2a to 3 for one classification cycle. all the best to them and I hope aville plays good enough to get a chance at them in the semis, to be the best you got to beat the best.
  18. Looking forward to a good game. Aville has been tested each week, no gimmies so far...and this will be no different. Looked last night except for a couple drives that Aville was started to click on all cylinders, if team continues to jell and 19 gets healthy and fresh it will be a fun post season. Got to grind this week and beat another tought rebel opponent.
  19. Heard they didn't have a lot of seating and was advised to carry chairs, anyone know? I like playing an unknown and traveling it's a test and will help come playoff time.
  20. The baldwyn Kossuth game did not look impressive. But baldwyn does have size and homefield advantage. It will be a long night if only bc of the penalties. Every sport is different when you travel down into mississippi. You have to adjust to their way of calling, regardless cards win 31-21
  21. The tssaa would convene a meeting in which they would decide before said meeting how everyone was gonna vote. They would make it appear that they wanted to make things right but just couldn't agree on how to do it. They would then make a list of 7-10 things they think would help the situation and then pass those but really none of those things had an affect on the situation. They would then hope everyone would keep paying their dues to them and that the situation just went away.
  22. Nothing to be ashamed of intense, you guys did play hard and goldsmith is golden, also the 58 I think lineman? U spoke highly of he is also a beast. I watched him a lot and he is special. I wouldn't worry too much about the unsportsmanlike penalties, they were brief and after that they were over. Good job on both teams getting past the chippy stuff. My honest assessment. Aville, played much better on d than in weeks past and "contained" a great back if u can call over 200 containing??tca also played well on d. The X factor for tca was qb. I think the guy is young which taking that into account wasn't a bad performance, but he did mishandle or either it was centers fault on several snaps, but Aville had some drive killing drops too from center qb exchange, just absolutely wasted a down several times. I said this last year about tca and I have to say it again. Last year you guys had the personnel for the spread, gunslinger offense. I think tho and said that in my opinion you all would have benefitted slowing it down ( last year) and putting Aiken under center and running #1 in some power sets. I know that wasn't your style last year but I think it could have benefitted. This year I also believe in putting qb under center and giving goldsmith a fullback would make him even harder to stop. He did great in spread single back with over 200 and two td's but I would love to see a smash mouth style mixed in for him. In 2a not many can stop that, it ain't flashy but it's fun to cram the ball down opponents throats. Bottom line I don't think y'all have the personnel (although good) to run same spread style offense. As for Aville. Better but not by a whole lot. If not for means tca wins. No passing game at all. #2 is a non factor when he should be a main cog. Still need traditional I instead on flanker etc. omg need a back up runner to step up. #4 did ok but was timmid at first. Good news is Whirley will be fresh in a few weeks and be able to help means. Too many holding penalties on o line, killed drives. Also too many illegal motion etc. which means basically too gimmicky. Line up in traditional I and go. I don't think there were any delay of game penalties which was a big improvement. Bottom line neither team has the skilled leaders from last year or years past. I see this as avilles last chance for a while at gold and right now they are a 2nd round team. Lots of work to do. For tca they can and prob will make playoffs and will turn this around and have a good year, too much talent not too in 2a. Best of luck to y'all intense gonna be tough for both teams.
  23. I can see your point. Nearly every high school game you see on tv are privates.
  24. The reason nothing has been done is $$$. Or fear of loss of it. I don't see how 26 private schools could dominate the 200 or so publics. That is not a valid argument. Most of tenn is rural and live way too far from a private. Also who says an athlete pays to go to a private school? That's the idea you offer free tuition to stud athletes in the form of athletic or probably academic scholarships no matter how good a student they are. It's their discretion who and how scholarships and which ones are awarded. Full split. 26 cannot and will not dominate 200
  25. the t$$aa is all about appearances and no substance. they want to appear that they are trying to do something to "level the playing field" when in reality they just want to keep both sides happy enough for them to keep paying their dues. the multiplier is already an admission of unfairness. to split would possibly mean losing 26 or so schools dues and share of gates from playoffs etc. why not just keep everyone in the same class and turn head for public school violations if not too severe and that would at least keep the privates paying, never mind their unfairness. time for some new leadership at the tssaa. split is better for the majority and a split it should be. if it means losing privates to their own association so be it. they will never be the majority. too many public school teams, coaches, and kids have been robbed of a true equal playing field that has cost them championships because of the association catering to the $$$.
