  1. Great tourney and very strong competition in all classes. The loudest cheers were from the Baylor faithful when Hooker lost, and when Duncan lost in the semis. The Cash-Marchetti matchup was a good one, and I thought Daniel Todd from MBA looked great, as did Ryan Carrethers from BA. Westerman is a great wrestler, but I didn't care for his bowing to the crowd after his finals match.
  2. Shhh! Please keep this on the down low and don't tell the colleges that DII is inferior. They'll stop recruiting some of these DII kids who (surpisingly enough) do well in college wrestling. Then the Matman rankings will have to drop four of the top ten teams. It will be terrible!
  3. Boone vs Doster won't happen as ND is at the Bradley. Advancing in this one will be tough, as many of these GA teams are very strong. If the BA and Ryan wrestlers don't go at it here, they wrestle each other straight up on January 20. Agree there will be some great wrestling this weekend.
  4. After being welcomed to high school wrestling by Mr Young, The freshman Jesse Jones from the international Cleveland Raiders, came from behind and pinned the defending State Champion from The Purple Team, Wes Wesley. Nice choices BCB, and lots of new names. You can't make mistakes with good wrestlers, and Mr. Jones (albeit young) is a good one.
  5. This match is actually on Thursday December 11 at Clarksville at 6:30 pm. Should be a good one.
  6. I appreciate Coach Bray doing this, and think he's fairly accurate. For DII last year, The State Champ was either ranked 1 or 2 in his final State predictions, in all but one weight class (he had Max Jarrell ranked 3rd). Didn't do the numbers for D1 but bet he's close on that one too.
  7. Franklin was crushed by Father Ryan and Brentwood should win this handily
  8. I see Brentwood instead of Overton

Don't know about "easily", but they are usually tough. By "unknown talent" are you talking about Freshman, transfers, what? Any you like we should watch?
  10. Nice story about Taylor Knapp. Collins Hill has a great program, and there's always some good wrestling at the Kyle Maynard duals. What weight class is Taylor?
  11. Not upset, just disagreeing with some of your points. I don't think it is "comparing apples and oranges ??? as this board gives us a chance to talk about GREAT wrestlers (like Patton, Konz, Boone, and others) who have not won in the same discussion as a State Champ. There are too many great ones out there so they can't all be on the top podium. I think all these boys deserve to be recognized, and I enjoy hearing about them. The answer is no, but congrats on your State Championship.

  13. That semi was a good match and really could have gone either way. I hope we get to see a Cash / Marchetti matchup at some point.
  14. What a joke. Josh is a GREAT wrestler, and this poster thinks he hasn't proven himself until he wins State? 007fanof "WHAT" game?
  15. According to the TSSAA website, Cash won his State final 3-2, and Wesley won 14-3. If Wesley is less impressive and ???more defensive minded against the upper level wrestlers???, you must be implying the Baylor wrestler in the finals wasn??™t upper level. I personally think anybody that makes that podium is a pretty good wrestler. I also think unless Cash ducks, he has a better chance of catching Marchetti than Wesley on the mat, unless he jumps up to 171 or more.
  16. Think BCB was referring to the Baylor McCallie matchup, not the State finals
  17. Thanks Hawksfan for trying. Amazing to me the TSSAA would be willing to change the format of the tourney (if the principals cry foul), but they won't consider another venue for this year. If they did change the format, the talk of double elim in D1 would immediately turn to the unfairness of worthy kids left out because of the change. Sounds like we're either going to live with W, TH & F, or convince them there ARE other places to put (8) mats that might be available if they make a few phone calls. UTC is a great venue, and I know Chattanooga has the support, but this can be successful somewhere else this year.
  18. I'd love for it to be in my backyard, but we're used to driving long distances to wrestling matches or we would have gotten out of this sport a long time ago! The bigger question is not where to wrestle, but when? If it is moved from the weekend to the middle of the week, I believe numbers will be down as many spectators and family won't be able to attend. I hope someone is looking at alternatives for the original dates (Feb. 19-21), but the TSSAA calendar still has it listed for the original dates. http://www.tssaa.org/Calendars/index.cfm?f...amp;GoToMonth=2
  19. I agree. Such a great tourney, and unfair to the wrestlers when their families may not be able to attend. I'll bet no one has checked other venues. I may be reading this wrong (see link below), but Murphy Center at MTSU looks promising for the original dates. Anyone from the TSSAA want to investigate? http://resc25wv.mtsu.edu/wv3/wv3_servlet/u...bdviewmode=grid
  20. Congrats to Phillip Simpson who was the highest place finisher from the US in these games. http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_...ArticleID=19497 After returning home briefly, he will be leaving soon for deployment in Iraq. His brother Patrick is there also, so please keep them and all our military in your prayers.
  21. This videoconference manufacturer offers families of our soldiers the chance to visit with them free on a video call. Know there are some wrestlers and friends out there, so please pass along this link to anyone interested. God Bless our troops! http://now.eloqua.com/es.asp?s=206&e=E...1DE28E8C8B5EFA8
  22. Hope these teams stay on each other's schedules for a long time.
  23. Bearcat, This match on the 23rd wouldn't involve S. Burkart's son would it?
  24. Due to weather and safety concerns, the Father Ryan campus will cancel all weekend activities, including the 2nd Annual NCW Open. It is a disappointment to all of us at NCW and to those teams planning to attend, but the safety of everyone is most important. Please mark your calendar for next year's event which will be held March 13th and 14th, 2009. If you paid on-line, steps are being taken to refund your registration fee. You will receive an e-mail notice of these arrangements. If you have other questions, send an e-mail to info@nashvillecatholicwrestling.com.
  25. Due to difficulties with the TrackWrestling registration system, registration for the NCW Open on 3-7 and 3-8 will be extended to 8:00 pm CST tonight (Thu 3-6). For more info or for registration go to the link provided at www.nashvillecatholicwrestling.com. You must use INTERNET EXPLORER as your web browser, and set your pop-up blocker to ALLOW POP-UPS from the site. Good luck to all wrestlers this weekend!
