  1. Let's keep this thread on topic--Tiffany Buckalew has committed to Florida State! Congrats to Tiff. We expect a big year from the senior for BCHS.
  2. That is correct. She verbally commited last week to the Lady 'Dores.
  3. If you really want to compare different states to Tennessee high school football just look at the rosters of the colleges. There are very few playing major college football from the state of Tennessee compared to other states like Georgia, Florida, Alabama, etc. That's why the Vols have to recruit nationwide. Tennessee high school football is fun and I love it and there are some great rivalries but it certainly can't stack up to surrounding states when it come to talent on high school teams.
  4. You might want to include E.B. (Red Etter) in your list. It seems that the TSSAA thought him good enough to honor him by selecting him to their Hall of Fame. I would also stack his record and accomplishments up against any on your list. He coached when football was tough and not this watered down version of playoff football with so-called classifications. He could take his and beat yours or take yours and beat his. He was simply that good.
  5. I read somewhere on the boards that the Bears will be playing Giles County. They'll also be in the King Cotton Classic. We'll see how things go. We shall talk again!
  6. Who knows who will win but the Bears have played in the State Championship Finals two of the four years that White Station has won it all. Last year they met in the first round and Bradley Central gave WS their closest game of the tournament. Credit WS with an outstanding program, but also credit Bradley Central with an outstanding program also. There doesn't seem to be anyone from East, Middle or West that can hang with the Bears besides White Station. Don't fret for the Bears either. Every other school in the state would like to have been playing the caliber of ball that Bradley has been displaying under Kent Smith and their day will come, trust me on that. It will come!
  7. I agree. It's still a home run. You just pick up play where it stopped no matter where you will be playing the rest of the game. Sounds like you were on the team that gave up the home run.
  8. Don't overlook the Bear Pair of Pickel and Hare!!!! What a duo at guard. None better in the state on the same team! And while we're at it, don't forget Cori Pugh and Chris Brown. And for the sophomore class, you have to consider Wes Suiter and Yarrish Hammonds, a starter on most any team but the Bears! I know you were there at the state and saw them in person. Can you name a better tandem than Hare and Pickel that will be returning next year?
  9. There is no one better than Jeff Mullins at Bradley Central. A first class program needs a first class trainer and we have ours at Bradley Central. What a great guy! Not just when it comes to being a trainer but also when it comes to being a human being! Great job Jeff! We look forward to having you for years to come!
  10. For the life of me I cannot figure out how you have some of the district teams playing 9 games when there are only 4 opponents and therefore you could only play 8 games at most! Bradley was 8-0 in the district and 36-3 overall. Get it right or quit posting. It proves that you have no credibility or that you are just plain stupid!!!
  11. Temple Ridgeway Bradley Central Lausanne
  12. If I were a betting man, my ante would be on Bradley Central. They have the talent, desire and coaching. Getting to the state is no longer good enough for them. This year they are looking to win the gold ball, as in BLACK AND GOLD! Go Bears!!!!!!
  13. Before everyone cancels the rest of the tournament and mails in the GOLD balls to the West Tennessee teams, let's at least play the games. You may be surprised how it all turns out! That's why they keep score! Gomab does have a better feel for Tennessee basketball than 99.9% of the people on this board.
  14. I'm not giving away any secrets when I tell you that Bradley has one of the stronest defensive teams in the state. I have seen them play about 25-30 games this year and they have the shooters, speed, quickness, and defense like there's no tomorrow. It should be interesting! GO BEARS!
  15. You're right, you know. Sometimes holding a team to 12 points in a half is NOT good enough. SCHS has a very fine team but they are not dominating and they are certainly beatable by several teams in the tournament. But, with some luck they cound win the darn thing for all I know. You still didn't answer my question about the crowd. Doesn't anyone care anymore? Were you there? I was and I still say that the gym was maybe half full but I'm not going to waste my time arguing with you. I have better arguments to start.
  16. For Shelbyville's sake, I hope that they are capable of playing better than they showed against Cleveland on Saturday night. Cleveland had them on their heels the first half become getting rattled by the full-court press in the second half. Take away that quarter and it's a different game. And yeah, I know that all four quarters count but they are just not the dominant team of years gone bye. Oak Ridge is not that strong either from the games that I saw them play. McMinn County had them beaten earlier this year and so did Bradley Central. A couple of lucky breaks kept them from losing both games. I believe that the tournament is wide-open this year and until someone beats them, the Sevier County girls are still state champions. All of the remaining teams are capable of beating any of the others. You better bring your 'A' game every time. By the way, what has happened to the Shelbyville fan support? At Saturday's game the gym was little more than half full for a pretty important game. A local sports writer said that since the mid-90's this was pretty much the norm. Is that really the case? Has winning become jaded?
  17. Congratulations to both teams (again) for a well-played, well-coached game. Both teams had runs with Bradley winning the first quarter, Cleveland winning the second and Bradley the third. Bradley then held Cleveland at bay in the fourth quarter to secure the win. What a performance from the entire Bear team and also from the Blue Raiders! Never have we had this much talent on the floor for both teams in the same year! It must have made the coaches from Columbia and Blackman wonder about this coming Monday night. Pick your poison--Bradley with Pickel and company totally disrupting the offense of the Blue Raiders and great off-the-bench work by Ya-Ya Hammonds. Chris Brown continues to improve game after game after recently being inserted into the starting lineup. And Justin Hare...well he just continues to maintain his composure and play rock steady defense and lead the Bears in scoring average. Cori Pugh has shown great quickness and crucial rebounding while Wes Suiter has evolved into a brute force going to the boards and getting key baskets for BCHS. And Cleveland---well my goodness! What a gunner in the junior Tim Cooper!!!! Nailing long-range gunners from here, there and everywhere! Charles Little doing his normal inside thing and the never-say-die attitude of James Cogdill. He would run through a brick wall if he thought that it would help his team. Jay Davis continues to stand tall and then there's the under-publicized Trey Sharp. Trey continues to be one of the key linch-pins for the Blue Raiders. Not as tall as others on the floor, but certainly a major player in big games. This senior will certainly be missed next year. Good luck to both on Monday. Could District 5-AAA place two teams in the state? I sure wouldn't bet against it!!!
  18. With the Bearettes returning 4 starters and 3 subs who saw a lot of action, next year looks good for BCHS. Cleveland will also return 4 starters, Cumberland County will return 5 starters, Rhea County will return 3 starters. Only McMinn will be touched hard by graduation, losing 4 starters. Look for District 5-AAA girls to have a super year next year.
  19. It was nothing. Just the frustration of a father who saw his senior daughter foul out of her final game as a player for the Lady Jets. There was no problem at all.
  20. String's new name is "Barbecue Man". Don't compliment him on here or he'll have the big head. He's already a "legend" in his own mind!
  21. Hey eagle1181, You make some very big assumptions about Bradley and Cleveland. They both have to win semi-final games tonight just to get to play each other again. While they will both be favored to win, don't count your chickens before they hatch just yet. Columbia also has to beat a good Blackman team or they'll be on the road. Yes, they are favored, but this is the regional and we have all seen some pretty crazy things happen. Good luck to all! Go Bears!
  22. Does it really matter now that the tournaments are here? Everyone is going to get sorted out very quickly, no matter what the records are.
  23. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Brandi will be signing with Hiwassee on Tuesday. A very just reward for the hard working senior on the Bearettes. Now go get 'em Bearettes.
