  1. Where? Howard's field is worse but not by much.
  2. Brandon Derrick would be a good fit. What about Derrick Davis? Marsh at Sweetwater might be looking to make move. Applied for the Rhea job last year. The guy at Bledsoe is a good coach. Would Cleveland look a lower division guy that has had some success?
  3. I can see Bledsoe keeping this alot closer than most people think. They have a under-rated OL and clearly have outstanding skill players. I believe that most are seniors and have player together a number of years. The QB is like a coach on the field and gets the job done and manages the offense as good as any QB I saw this season. If the Warriors can get this game to the 4th QTR, they have a shot.
  4. The McMinn Central Wrestling program was a big loss that could have been prevented if there was not such an indifference by the administration to wrestling. The school goes out of its way for other "minor" sports such as soccer, volleyball, golf and cross country. Not sure when the indifference started or why. The program was started in the late 70's with Eddie Rich as the coach. Ken Mirabella took over from rich and had some state qualifiers. The teams back then had a reputation for being tough and physical. After Mirabella left, not sure who coached but the team continued to compete. In the 90,s there was a year that there was not a coach. Sometime in the 90's, Wayne Scott took over and quickly made the program competitive again. Ken Williams coached for several years after Scott and participation suffered. In the mid 90's Brian Gossett was hired and built back a program that had over 25 on the team. When he left, Jack Gallegher took over for several years. After Jack was not rehired, the program was turned back over to Ken Williams and the rest is history. The hiring of a head wrestling coach had always been tied in to football. In the past, the head wrestling coach was also an assistant football coach. There has been no effort IMO to hire either over the past two years. I doubt if Central Wrestling can be or will be resurected anytime soon. That is sad, very sad.
  5. There is a big difference in the level of competition during the regular season. 3 or the 4 losses that Alcoa has were to the Number 1 ranked teams in 3A, 4A and 6A. Having seen Bledsoe barely beat a 1-9 McMinn Central team and have to hang on to beat Chattanooga Christian,it is obvious that Bledsoe did not play the same kind of schedule that Alcoa has. Bledsoe has a huge advantage playing at home. Bledsoe can move the football and with as many formations they use can present some problems for Alcoa. Bledsoe has not seen the over-all team speed (except for Signal) that Alcoa has. Bledsoe plays alot guys both ways. If Alcoa starts pounding the ball at them and is successful, it could be along night for the Warriors.
  6. I think this would be great. It would give some really interesting cross-region match-ups.
  7. Really? Is the McMinn/Bradley game the second longest rivarly in the state. Think the South Pitt/Marion game is the longest. For alot of years Bradley was not very good.....You cn go back to the Shazzon Bradley days or even back as far as 1961. This is long standing high school rivarly. Will be a great game. McMinn is playing really well. Lots of weapons on offense. Bradley is at home and led by an experienced QB. Neither defense is over-powering. Going to come down to turn-overs, special teams and coaching. If I was not going to watch Alcoa and CAK, this is the game I would go to.
  8. I just hope the SC coach and players have more sense than most of the SC posters on this message board and don't develop the "if we can't beat them, let's pick a fight" mentality. I don't think it will happen, but I could see us loading the buses and moving out early if those actually involved in the game acted as immaturely as the hatred spewers on this board I am not from a valley team and have been on both ends of losing and beating SC. The one thing I know about that group is that the score is not going indicate the effort that the Indians will bring to the match up. No doubt the Eagles are a heavy favorite. You can depend on the Indians to play hard. They will not expect anything less from Signal Mountain. As far as the discussion on this board, it should now focus on the game. I expect the SC supporters will be on their best behavior. I suggest that Signal worry about Signal and let the game unfold. You can bet that the TSSAA will be on site and that there have been some discussions with the game administrator and officials. The coaches and players will surely be on a short lease. I would expect quick whistles, flags and sideline warning. Hopefully the Chattanooga association is sending an experience crew to this game site.
  9. I think this is going to be a classic. McMinn's offense can be very explosive. Both defenses will be tested. McMinn really playing really good right now. I think it will come down to who has the ball last.
  10. Good thing the Tigers scored 55 last week. Cherokees will go wild if Cagle lets them. Too much speed for the Tigers.
  11. There are some huge problems at Cleveland. The team "looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane". Clearly something is missing. Does Slaughter really run that show? Is he a lame duck? As I understand it he was like the 4th choice in the last selection process. Does EK survive to coach the Blue Raiders next year?
  12. And such is the state of Signal Mountain football.
  13. Polk win win. Polk has a real chance at a Number 1 seed in Quad 2. Winning out would put them no worse than a number 2 seed. If Polk is going to make a run, they want to play on the road early. Would be great for them to have the home field advantage. Polk 35 Sequoyah 21
  14. Oh yeah. Cleveland uses those SEC quality officials from Chattanooga.
  15. Typical response from a Signal Mountain supporter. It is someone elses fault. You guys can't even tell what is right and what is wrong anymore. You can surely believe that there are enough people in Hamilton County that have an axe to grind with Signal Mountain. Take your pick! Blaming Hargis is just an excuse. Put the blame where it lies.....Principal, Athletic Director and last but not least Bill Price. Hold them accountable-plain and simple.
  16. Busted! How do the Signal Mountain faithful justify this one? Like I have said before, " loose cannon" is running this ship. Bet somebody from Howard, Brainard, Tyner or East Ridge is having the last laugh. No one should be surprised! Lack of institutional control here is very evident. Look to the principal, athletic director and the head coach and please no excuses this time around.
  17. Associations are all run a little differntly. Some associations do a better job at developing young officials than others. Many associations across the state spend alot of time evaluating officials. Unfortunately there are many associations that are run by good ole boys who hang around too long. Saw a crew from the Chattanooga association at a recent game at Bledsoe County and McMinn Central. They were terribly inconsistent and incompetent. The problem is what recourse do schools have. Not much really. Heck the officiating was not that good at the championship games last year and that is suppose to be the best of the best.
  18. According to what paper? Nothing was in the paper on Saturday. Just causing trouble but something you heard third or 4th hand.
  19. When does #15 graduate? Seems like he has been there forever. Good player who can make plays.
  20. No doubt. He is the guy that is pulling the triggers in that offense. Tough player, too.
  21. Holloway makes that much difference compared to a freshman that has had no game experience Just can not see Bledsoe beating Sequatchie with a freshman at QB. The passing attack keeps folks from loading up on the run which makes the running back more effective. Would there be another player that might be able to step in a QB other than the freshman?
