  1. I've been waiting on this thread. Seems to be a anual favorite. My vote is for "Flight of the Bumblebee".
  2. This whole arguement is kind of weak. IF the fans that you speak of are so great in the area, then let them drive FARTHER, not shorter, cause they will. As for the best idea in my thinking is to have a three way rotation between an arena in west TN, mid TN, and east TN. Personally, I think that there is more to the whole slack in attendance, but that's another board.
  3. I'll have to go with Kiffin on this, and add a couple more thoughts to the stew. First, TSSAA should take a little trip down to FL or TX and see what they are doing that causes them to be such hotbeds for tallent. For the past few years, the TSSAA has passed rules and regs that seemed to be aimed at making our teams, not just football, kinder, gentler, and more politically correct. And, you would think that it would be northern states that would be better since the boys can practice year round with out roasting in the summer heat, but it is the hotter states of FL and TX that are the hottest states. Second, I don't care from where the boys come, and neither do the fans. If they did, Coach Summit would have been run off years ago. Not have her name written on the floor. If they are winning on the field, their'll be butts in the seats. And if there are butts in the seats, then there will be coverage by the networks. And if there is coverage by the networks, there will be highschool recruits that will long to be a part.
  4. LC has some good sized boys. But just going on what I saw last Friday, and knowing a little about the teams that they are going to play, they are in for a tough year. They're going to have to get better exicution on O and D. Wish them luck.
  5. I think that you may be short changing this years team, SrgEagleFort. I think that Polk is better this year. As for Bradley, they are a decent team, but from what I observed during the day of scrimmage held at Bradley with several different teams, Bradley is far from disciplined. At least 3 times they had to stop the scrimmage to break up fights with Bradley's team, and each time was with different teams. Tells me that the problem lies with Bradley, and also tells me that Davis had best have his boys ready for that. You sure don't want to loose a player for the next game for fighting in a "non-counting" game, if there is such a thing as that.
  6. If the goal of high school is the win/loss record, then "what ever works." But, if your goal is to train up young men and women that will make your town and school proud on the field or floor and off, and in the years to come, then you have to set a level of expectations of your players to behave in a manner that is exceptable within your community. And it is more important that the example set by the leaders (coaches) set the highest standard of what is expected. There are no schools and few jobs where the use of profanity will be allowed. In fact, the use of profanity in school will lead to disciplinary actions, and the use of profanity on the job is creating a hostile work enviroment and will lead to being fired. And for those that are in favor of the use of profanity, what do you do when the young man receiving the cussing returns the same language to the coach? Is it ok for the players to cuss to or at the coach? If not, then why allow the players to receive it? And as far as being "turned into men" by this. I guess that my definition of being a man is somewhat different then yours. When I think of the best men that I have known, not a single one was incapable of expressing the depth of their emotions without the use of profanity.
  7. Wilkerson may be here for only one more year. His wife is in her last year of pre-med, and she will be applying to med school when she finishes. The closest one is Johnson City. Don't think he will commute or expect his wife to commute that far. But, even with that said, I think that the best thing to do at this point is to name Wilkerson as head coach for this year, with the understanding the 2010 team will be getting a new coach. This will give the school a year to search for the best coach that they can find. Plus, Wilkerson was the anchor of this staff, and I think that the plays and plans that they have are alot of what he has come up with, so there won't be any changes for the boys beyond what they are doing now. This is no slight on BD, but if the school does this, I don't think there will be any real difference. I heard at least 2 people at the end of last years season say that they thought BD would be leaving. HEY, that gives us a year to talk Coach Derrick from Polk to come to Central. That way we won't have to change any tags, name plates, or programs. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  8. Did the refs effect the game? Most definitely. To be down only 9 at half with the calls that they had, I thought that they could still manage to pull it out. If you look at what LA did, they got what they thought was some bad calls, was outshot at the free throw line, but still managed to pull out the win. South Green had a real shot at coming out in the second half and just focus on winning one section of the game at a time, but they had their heads down. By the mid third quarter South Green lost their head. Pressure had a role in that, but so did the weak fouls called against SG. To win here, you need skill, luck, and toughness. All I'm saying is SG had skill, but bad luck, and lacked some toughness. To make you feel better, Gibson has skill, got some luck, and showed some toughness.
  9. Well. South Green can't and shouldn't say it. But I'm not part of South Green, nor even seen them til this week. But South Green got hosed the first half with some of the worse calling that I've seen in a while. And someone needs to inform the refs what is and what isn't back court. But to be fair, the calling evened out somewhat in the second half, but South Green had done got their heads down. Tough luck South Green. I'm not going to be totally one sided so perhaps Gibson fans won't shout out TOO loud. Gibson has a good team. They have a good point, and good post and have players that don't hurt them filling in around these players. Gibson is able to beat any team here this week. I just wish we could have watched 5 on 5 instead of 5 on 8. After speaking with some folks that have seen South Green more often this year, they seem to have games where they look like the best team in Tennessee, but once in a while have a game where they loose their head. Today could have just been one of those days. You have to bring your A game to the 'boro. Good luck to both teams tomorrow. I have no favorites, just wanting to see a great game. AA is going to be the only game worth the price of admission, and that's with a tournament special seating. Make me glad I'm there ladies.
  10. It's a shame that some would take away from what these young ladies have done. They won the games that they needed to win, and those teams that were "expected" to win didn't, or they would still be at the 'boro. That being said, I do know what "they" might mean. I sat Wednesday and Thursday and watched teams play that were no better then some of those "weak" teams that we see back home, AA and especially AAA. But more then anything, it shows just how hard it is to make it to the 'boro'. The format of tournament play is win or go home. Teams that can turn it on when they need to make it, and teams that can't go home. That's what makes it so exciting. It also shows that not all teams travel to the 'boro by the same road. Not all teams have to play a 7AA to get there only to dray a 7AA team first round. Tell the girls that they belong here. I'll be watching them play tomorrow (Sat) I'll be the one cheering for South Green /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  11. These young ladies (seniors) may not realize what they have accomplished, or how blessed they have been. They have set records that can only be tied, but never beaten. Also, they have played in one of the most supportive atmospheres in the state. When you set and watch all the teams that are playing at the state level and see the lack of support or non-existant support that some teams receive, it makes you realize just how fortunate we are to live in a community that supports our young ladies and men as they do. There are several times when Central travels 45 minutes to an hour to play teams at their house, and we out number the home team's fans. They have also been blessed to have been trained and influenced by men like Coach Morgan and Coach Young. They are the highest examples of moral and ethical standards. I for one am proud to have had them as influences in the lives of my kids. Next is the friendships that they have formed. They have battled together in some of the toughest gyms around. And that makes for tight friendships and fond memories. Lastly, these 5 seniors have received some pretty good preperation for life beyond high school. Of the 5 seniors, 2 were offered athletic scholarships, but opted for academic. 3 will be playing ball at the collage level at UTC, TWC, and Hiwassee. That's enough to make a whole community proud.
  12. Everyone sees the world different, I guess. Puzzles me at times. South Green wins this one. "Gibson's post running the floor?" No one must have watched the post of South Green run the floor. Yes, Gibson has a great little ball handler/shooter. South Green has 3. Gibson is a speed bump in South Green's road to gold this year. They'll feel a bump, but it won't stop em.
  13. Should be a whale of a game. Looking forward to it. If I had to pick a winner, I'd follow the dumb teaming masses and pick CR. But, I don't think it'd be a lock. You have to play 'em before you can win 'em.
  14. Hampton wins this one. Madison didn't so much "turn it on" yesterday, so much as the other team "turned it off". I think that Hampton wins, but the second best A team will be determined today (Friday) with OS and Clarkrange. Hampton will finish second to which ever team wins that game.
  15. After watching both teams play, I'll have to say LA gets this one. I really don't think that Westview will be able to compete with LA across the board. LA should win this one big. Just make sure that the 'Post big-game bug" doesn't bite the LA young ladies. That thing "STINKS"!!!!!
  16. From what I've seen so far. I'd have to say that Memphis Central will win AAA, South Green will win AA, and Clarkrange will win A. That's one for East, one for Middle, and one for West. And just for a little controversy starter. I'd pick South Green to beat Memphis Central or Clarkrange, if they played. South Green is pretty tough. But, take it from a McMinn Central fan, you had best come ready to play, or have your bags packed to head back home.
  17. Finally got some sleep without the phone ringing at 3:00 am /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Last night was one of the best 3 games that Central has been a part of in the last 4 years. And Upperman is the best team that Central has played in the last 3 years. (Hillcrest 2006, first round state is still the best). I'm not sure that either team would have had to much to hang their head about over getting beat, other then hating to be beaten. My idea of what the game would turn out to be went south. First, with an injury in first quarter. Second with the stamina of Upperman's players. Upperman players showed a lot of heart. I found on a newspaper site that Central is scheduled to play TBA next. Anybody know anything about them? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  18. Great. Now my secret ID is out. We're leaving in the moring to go into hiding for the next week to a "SECRET" city. Hopefully, everyone will forget this by then.
  19. MAN!!! Don't tell that. You may have just caused BigDaddy to have to take him and his family into protective custody. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  20. I have it from a source very close to Gabby that the cornea is scratched. She had a medicated contact put in for a couple of days, and some eye drops for the next five. Should be feeling a lot better by tomorrow, and ready to play by Wednesday. Also, Kelsie McNutt had a sprained ankle. Gabby went out after just about 4 minutes in the first quarter. Kelsie went out at the start of the second half. Great effort by the rest of the team to bring the win home. Just goes to show the depth of Central. Loosing two starters and still beating a good team like Upperman. Great effort. See all the faithful Blue at the boro.
  21. Indian. Good points. But, Central had a game situation scrimmage with Walker Valley (AAA team hosting sub-state against Blackman) with refs and clock, and won by almost 20 points. I also think that from the 4 Upperman games that I have seen, their bench is no where near the depth of Central's. First 5 vs first 5 is pretty good match up. But, factor in the fresh legs and Central gets the advantage. Upperman seems to want to run, I'm hoping that they try to match the speed of Central. Personally, I thiink that there is a strong possibility of two 5AA teams being at the boro.
  22. I think that the "little thug" will start out, but I think that by the forth quarter Caitlyn Casteel will probably be guarding her.
  23. Well, let's get the trash rolling. Polk can definately win Saturday. Polk Positives: LA is no deeper then Polk. They have decent players, but I believe that Polk is better across the board. With LA's depth being less then Central's and their ball handling being less, that press that Polk put on Central Wednesday night will work, and Polk will be able to stay in it for more then just a few moments at a time as LA will be unable to sub like Central. If Polk can speed up their ball movement just a hair, they should be able to get some got looks at some 3's. Rogers, Carver, and German should be able to hit some. That should open up the post. Polk's Problems: LA has a hard working post, 54 I believe, that is not to fast, but is strong and works hard for the whole game. And the ?Sells? (sorry if not spelled right) girl, number 10 is a player. She has some problems with an ACL or MCL, and I'm not sure if she is having or had surgery, but it doesn't slow her down, but it does seem to have left her a little out of shape. Shame. I hope she gets recooped for next year. She's a pretty special player. She and German are alot alike. The biggest problem for Polk though will be in their head. Polk players need to understand that their 5 are good players and a good team. It's not Central's starting 5 that beat Polk. It's the bench. That's why you see the score's closer in the first half. But as the game goes on, Polk's 5 just get tired and Central just keeps rotating subs in and out. Last is the travel. LA will be rocking. Just go in, play ball as you can, and Hope to see you all at the 'boro. If anyone sees BigDaddy at LA, buy him a hot dog for me, and tell him, thug dadi has to be true to 5AA (Sorry BigDaddy But in a couple of years, I hope to be watching yours, then I'll cheer for her)
  24. SH!!!! Don't tell them. That's how we get all the best seats. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
