  1. Only because you're being such a nice guy will I reply. IF, and I say IF, the player had DOVE for the ball, and gathered the ball while in a slide, then ok. BUT, and this is key. The player gathered the ball on the run, then went to her knees and slid. She was running, caught the ball right at chest high, then goes to her knees and slides. Call it what you want. I'll call it past, and you can call it over. As for why listen to me??? I don't care if you do or not. I won't be seeing you at the Boro. Will I?
  2. We're as excited as we can be to be hosting Ms. Basketball '08, and the mighty Bees. LET"S GET IT ON!!!!!
  3. Ha Ha. You're being funny. No one is so stupid as to believe that players have the right to slide.... You were kidding right??? I mean, you're NOT that dumb, right.
  4. raider2. With your knowledge of basketball, and Central in particular, you remind me of someone...... OH!!! I GOT IT. Coach Quirk. Is this you Coach Quirk???
  5. I know exactly what you mean. Watching girls slide for 30 feet on their knee pads while holding the ball, and no walking call made, watching your guards get knocked to the floor and stripped of the ball with no foul called, or a girl climb plum over the back of one of your girls for a rebound and ride her to the ground like a horse with no call. It just makes you set and wonder what game some refs watch when they are calling yours. It does seem funny to some to hear Marshall talking about bad refs...... /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  6. Thanks for the well wishes. But, the idea that 7AA is the ultimate district..... well, we shall see. I too have seen Upperman play. I look forward to that game. Perhaps Central will get some respect after then. Two more wins between Central facing a 7AA team. Come back after Thursday and we can speculate on the 5AA vs 7AA matchups.
  7. Since the season is now over for Sequatchie, and any talk about what has happened won??™t take away from what these young ladies are trying to do. I??™ll give my opinion. Sequatchie needed the three young ladies that decided to quite earlier in the year. They needed them to be competitive beyond their own district. That??™s just the fact. And when you have one of your two best remaining players go out with an ACL, well, it just gutted the team. I knew that Meigs would give Sequatchie trouble and wasn??™t surprised by the outcome. Meigs has done well this year, and this is about as far as they could hope to go. Polk won??™t be tired or surprised this time. That??™s the facts of Sequatchie Ladies Basketball. BUT, being on a team is more than how far you go in tournament play. It??™s about fulfilling the commitment to your fellow team mates. It??™s about carrying your load, and that of your team mates when they fall. And being a coach is more than teaching proper man-to-man or offenses. It??™s about raising young ladies that will become productive parts of the community, committed parts of a family, and being a positive model of returning to the community the resources that have been invested in you. It??™s my opinion that Sequatchie Co. didn??™t have the best basketball players on the floor at the end of this year, BUT THEY DID have the best young ladies. I??™ve always said that teenagers will lie about just about anything, but when they tell you that they are quitters, you can take that to the bank. And quitters have no place on a winning team, no matter what their win/loss record is. The ladies that finished this season, and the coach that stood by their side, they are a classy group. I would have loved to have seen them go farther, but I don??™t think that would improve the pride that the Dunlap area should feel for this group of young ladies and their coach. It??™s the natural act of a child to tear down and seek the easy way. It??™s the act of maturity to seek the best through hard work and pride. I??™d say these young ladies from Sequatchie has shown some great maturity. Good Job young ladies, and good luck.
  8. Any final scores? Oops. Must have said, while I was hunting for letters. Thanks
  9. How bad is it to be body slammed, AND then get the foul called on you? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Friday night should be a good night. Bledsoe Co. has struggled this year, and I don't think they will have the skill, depth, or speed to stay with the Chargerettes. Just be a good night to enjoy the second to last home game for this year. See everyone there. /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" />
  10. Upperman needs to focus on winning district right now. They have beaten Livingston by just a few points each time that they have played, and it's really tough to beat a team like that 3 or 4 times straight in one season. And if they for some reason are unable to finish first in the district, that would put them having to play Station Camp in the second round of the region, then face Livingston for the championship. That's a lot tougher road then setting in the weaker bracket and letting Station Camp and Livingston fight it out, then pick off the survivor. And make no mistake, it is CRUCIAL that Upperman win the region. Cause if they don't, they will probably get to travel to McMinn Central for Sub-State. And while it may be possible for a visiting ladies team to win at Central, it's been 2 years since anyone has proven it. And let's not forget that if they win region, there will be a team coming up to play them in Sub-State. That team will probably be Polk Co. A team that will match up fairly well against Upperman. Upperman has the advantage, but I'd say it will be a good game. The key to that game is Polk's Post play. The key here being, there are some objects laying in the road to the 'boro. Upperman just needs to take care of business. Then, once/if they get there, there will be the matter of the blind draw. Upperman could be put in the same bracket as Marshall, and McMinn Central, these three are the contenders in my mind. Then, heaven help us, the Gibson team would have a shot at making it to the finals, and be impossible to live with, but that's another thread.
  11. District 5AA McMinn Central coach John Morgan is closing in on his 700th win, should come next year. He hasn't lost a district or region game in the past 2 years. He has won the district seasons for the last 4 years, and won the district and region tournaments for the last 3 years. For the last 4 years he is at 113-18. In the last 7 years, he has had 11 players receive scholarships.
  12. It's about time that someone recognizes (outside of Dunlap) this team and coaches. I can't say that they are my favorite, but they are my second favorite. They have been through alot this year, and right now, they may feel like this year has been a disappointment, but they should hold their heads high and be proud of what they have done. I'm wishing them well, and hope they win their district, and second in region. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  13. This may be one of those times when it's best to lose. Several times, the team that gets the bye looses some intensity with the in-action. But, either way, this isn't how the teams finish the season, just for seeding. Both teams will finish tied for 1st in the season, it's just that you can't have two teams on one side of a bracket.
  14. Destroyed. If by that you mean that a team is beaten so bad and ran so hard one night that it actually causes them to lose to an enferior team the next. I'd say that you'd have to say Central destroyed Polk. Meigs fans that I talked to said that Polk just quit, and played like they were completely exhausted. As for the hope of the next time. The only reason that the first game was so close was the absence of one of last years starters, plus the "pre-Adams" coming out. Not saying that Polk can't win, but it will take Central playing WAY below their ability for that to happen.
  15. MAN. Since J.A.??? You go WAY back. You must be right. I bow to your immense knowledge. On the other hand, you may just have a group of girls that have played so many tournament AAU games where it's "lose and go home" that regular season games are less important. It's also a matter that they have never faced a team in high school ball that is as tallented across the board as AAU teams that they have faced, with the exception of last years Cleveland team and Sub-state and above teams. I can tell you that there have been games (2) where Central was nervous about the game. One was last years Cleveland game at the Best of the Preps. (UGLY) And their sophomore sub-state game with Livingston. They were introduced by name and year. Livingston had 4 seniors and one junior. Our 4 sophomores and 1 freshman played scared that game. The only fear or nervousness that the players have would be the fear or nerves they have about talking to Coach Morgan after messing up. Keep your trophy. I'd rather have a hotdog. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  16. I'm not sure what game you were watching. How do you get stronger then a 14-0 start or hold the opposing team scoreless for 6 1/2 minutes??? It was a strong start, strong game, and decent finish. The Central vs Polk was the best complete effort that the chargerettes have had in 5 years. But the notion that Central players start the game with nerves is crazy. They are perhaps one of the most experienced and successful teams in the state with 5 seniors that have been on the varsity for 4 years. These seniors have won the district and region every year, won 2 sub-state games, and been to the 'boro two years. The seniors are within reach of being the winningest senior class to ever wear the Charger blue (109-19). Of those 19 losses, 2 were against AA state champions, and 10 were against AAA teams. The last home loss was 2 years ago vs Livingston Academy in the sub-state game. And the last loss to a district or region team was 2 years ago vs Brainerd. This senior class of girls come onto a Central team that was 18-15 the year before and in the first year were playing at the 'boro. When the teams come out to warm up, it's the other team that turns around to watch Central warm up. Central players just do what they do. If anyone is nervous at a Chargerette games, it's the other teams. As for the refs, they didn't decide the game. But they did effect it. Not with one sided calls, but with HIGHLY inconsistant calls. One of the things that each player has to learn during every game is just how far they are going to be able to go with contact, especially on defense. Each player starts the game playing "wide open", and with each call, for and against, they have to say to themselves, "Ok, back off that level just a hair." But, when you are being allowed to bump and rub, but then get a foul called for a good athletic and clean effort, you start to wonder, "How aggressive can we be?" The big problem, in that game, was the anticipated call. Since I'm a Central fan, I'll use the foul against Triplet (Polk's post) in the fourth as an example. A Central player recieved the ball, drove down to the block and made contact with Triplett as she took a shot, Triplett simple stood still, raised her hands, and didn't even jump or curl her hands or arms over the shooter. The shot was blocked, but Triplett was called for the foul. This was one of the BIG games in the area that night and since it was played on Thursday and involved 2 top 10 AA teams, it was probably the biggest game in the state that night. My point being that refs are asigned to games based on the expectations of that game and the experience of the refs. Meaning that C.A. Dawkins felt that these three refs were the best three he could supply. And that may be true. If you came to watch the game against a struggling Boyd Buchanan team the next night, you would have to say that the 3 that call the game on Thursday were head and shoulders above. But you have to remember, it's a ball game, not a funeral. Fans cheer, get loud, get rowdy. If you can't handle loud rowdy cheering, perhaps you can attend golf tournaments.
  17. I agree with those that think we should not get the shot clock. I think that we should keep catering to the lowest common denominator in the skill level. I would like to see the TSSAA go back to 3 on 3, shrink the size of goal so that the ball can bearly clear the goal. That way the scores will be closer, like 2-0. Then we should make the winning team do a cheer for the lossing team, then everyone join hands at mid-court and sing Kum-bi-ya. If we can be successful in lowering the scores to single digits, slow the pace, and make repeated fruitless trips up and down the floor with no scores, perhaps we can make the game of basketball as popular at the high school level as soccer. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  18. Antwan is correct. Each district has a previously agreed way to establish placement in brackets for district tournaments. But don't confuse the placement in the brackets for how each team finished in regular season play. The regular season would end, for example, with Teams A & B tied for 1st, and Teams C & D tied for 3rd. But just for placement, the previously agreed means would be used to place each team in brackets. TSSAA has no rules set for tie breakers, tournament locations, bracket forms for number of teams in each district, etc. The only rule that the TSSAA has, is that the district tournament must produce 4 teams ranked 1st to 4th to play the other district in their region in an "inverted bracket". 1st plays 4th, 2nd plays 3rd, each team playing team from other district. And unless there has been a change, it's not till the sub-state game that the TSSAA regulates where the games are played, and then, it's just a size of gym requirement to host the game at the region champ's own gym. So long winded version, some districts go by the coin toss. Some settle ties by who won the first game between two tied teams, some use total points scored in district play to settle ties, etc. It's up to the coaches and/or AD's in each district. To add to the confusion for you. Our district has 9 teams. And instead of having 8 & 9 play a "play in game" then have 1 play (8-9), 2 play 7, 3 play 6, and 4 play 5. Teams 8 & 9 play each other, then face Team 6. The winner of that game plays team 4, and the inner of that game plays Team 1. On the other side of the bracket, Teams 5 & 7 play each other, with the winner playing team 3. The winner of that game plays team 2. The winners of games with Teams 1 & 2 play each other for the championship, and the losers play in the consulation game. What this does, is allow the bottom teams to stand a chance to have a district tournament win. But, what is also does, is allow the first and second place teams to loss EVERY district game, and still make it to the region tournaments. And that has happened. But, bottom line, to be the best, you have to beat the best, first round or championship game.
  19. There once was a crazy man in the loony bin. He believed he was dead. He told everyone that he was dead. One day a new psychologist came to work at the hospital, and decided to argue with this man to prove that the man wasn??™t dead. The psychologist asked the patient, ???Do dead men bleed???? The patient thought about it and answered, ???No, dead men have no heart beat, no blood pressure. So no. Dead men don??™t bleed.??? So the psychologist reached out real fast and pricks the patients finger. As the patient watches blood flow from the wound he looks at the psychologist with an amazed look in his eye and exclaims??¦.. ???What do you know. Dead people DO bleed!??? That??™s about what it??™s like with 14A patients??¦. I mean posters.
  20. Good luck Jim5144. The last "Pro 14A" post actually used (0-11) Halls as a point to prove their superior status, and focus on inter-district play as proof of statewide dominance. The idea that all districts, no matter how good or weak will end up with .500 winning percentage for district play, and what that means, is a foreign thought to some. You got it right. There is one point that the last "Pro 14A", mrbigster, got right. You can't go completely with Strength+Success. The reason is that it doesn't reward or penalize for playing up (A vs AAA) or down (AAA vs A). Our school (AA) played a decent (8-8) AAA school, but the win actually cost us in Strength+Success. We later played a top ten (11-2) A. We jumped up when we played them. But I can tell you, the win against the AAA was a tougher win, even though we went down because of it. But I don't think that is what we have going on here.
  21. Greenfieldfan, what do you expect with the title "District 14A the best in the State in Single A?" Well, NOBODY thinks they are EXCEPT for 14A. I mean REALLY!!! Did you expect the other 15A districts to stand up and say, ???YOU??™RE THE BEST, THE KING, THE ALPHA DOG DISTRICT!!!!??? GET REAL!!! If you can't have the best team(s), then you want an excuse, "We play tougher teams day in and day out." That was the reason that I looked at Strength+Success standings, which puts 7A ahead of you. Sorry. And for the record, I'm NOT a district 14 or 7 fan. Nor am I Single A fan, so I??™m NOT slanted, but IF I am, it??™s because CoachT??™s numbers are slanted against 14A. I??™m just someone that thought the claim of having the ???BEST??? district was boisterous and unfounded. As for how the teams were matched up by myself??¦ That??™s the way CoachT has them ranked in Strength+Success. IF Lake County is one of your better teams, I can only assume that your going to argue that they should be ranked higher then 36th in the state. A team that you yourself said was capable of winning your district. I mean if the 36th place team in the state can win your district, how strong can your district be???
  22. I'd never make a "pass" at a lady. Unless she was foxy. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> I think that Clarkrange has the best shot at running the table. Next, Marshall. Then McMinn Central. With Gibson County having the least change. Clarkrange has already played the toughest part of their schedule and finished thus far undefeated. Marshall is the same. McMinn Central has two games (Polk and Loudon) that will be decent chances for an upset. And last Gibson County. They have one game (@Westview) that I don't know if I'd call it an upset. BUT, I'd give you a better then even odds on at least 2 finishing the season undefeated.
  23. Well, if anyone could tell, it'd be you, foxylady. Little Miss 20/21. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" LOL
  24. You guys are HILARIOUS!!!! First, going by the Strength+Success ratings, and since 7A only has 6 teams, if you had 14A play 7A, (1) Clarkrange would beat (9) Humboldt. (2) Jackson County would beat (14) Bradford. (11) Clay County would beat (17) Union City. (24) Pickett County would beat (25) Gleason. (43) Red Boiling Springs would lose to (38) Peabody. (60) Monterey would lose to (42) Greenfield. BUT, this has ALL of 7A playing playing the 6 best teams of 14A, but 7A still winning 4 out of the 6 games. And it goes without saying that if you were to let all of 7A play the 6 bottom teams from 14A, they would win. But, heres a curve ball for those of you with some mathmatical skills. Even 14A admit that Clarkrange and Jackson County are better then anyone in their district. So, if you were to add 4 loses to all of the teams in 14A which the teams in 7A have placed in their record having to play Clarkrange and Jackson Co. twice each, and they would be ranked even lower in the Strength+Success rankings. More proof that 7A as a whole is just plain better. But please, don't let this discourage you. Keep trying. You amuse me. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  25. Hey, Indian. Is that all teams, A AA and AAA, together, or is that just the ratings for A seperately? I'd think that those ratings would be all teams.
