  1. Right now, Overton is much better than White House - who's struggled with execution in both week's since their impressive showing at Portland. Hillsboro's rear-view mirror is full of Bobcat. That week eight meeting should be a beauty. And if Overton gets by Dickson County next week, a battle of unbeatens. But, that's a large IF.
  2. Antonio London of Tullahoma
  3. I'm glad the coaches in this league have got it right and hope that the mid-state's 4A leagues follow suit. 10 teams in a region is too many, especially when there are several regions where 4-of-6 or 4-of-7 make the playoffs. Make more regions with fewer playoffs berths - or let the number of teams in the league determine the number of bigs. (i.e. a 10-team region gets five bids and a six-team league gets two - or maybe three. I'd like to see the TSSAA clean the current mess so teams can still take pride in Region titles. I still don't know if Hillsboro or Columbia - or White House or Pearl-Cohn - won their leagues last year.

    best quaterbacks

Everson is the most recruitable with his size. Wolke's a junior and he'll be the stud next year. Trousdale County's Wesley Satterfield is a great prep quarterback. Riverdale's Britton deserves a mention. Ward and Sharp are also outstanding high school qb's, but both will be recruited as 'athletes'. Schlappi is all system and single-A, put any of these other guys in Ezell's offense and they're all better. Schlappi might not even be the best qb on his team. His numbers were noticably down against CPA, the first true competition of the year.
  5. Trousdale limped to the finish Friday night. I wouldn't call that their A-game and Clint sure didn't after the game. However, I saw both games too. Trousdale is far more talented than Portland and - with that game in Hartsville - I'd say it'll be a long trip home for the Panthers.
  6. Smith didn't want anything on film for CPA to break down.
  7. Realizing this is the 'net and all things read here aren't the gospel, the thing I find most interesting is the method of notification for the player's parents. Can anyone shed more light on how this went down. You'd think they'd be notified immediately and that the coach would accompany the kid to the hospital.
  8. Flatt beat Brentwood at halftime, it's where he's best. The Eagles went away Townsend and let Holbert haul the mail. Musten came in as a blocking fullback some too. Brentwood's Steven Jones appeared the most over-rated player on the field - if not the mid-state. Those scouts need to find Sparkman at Columbia - he's got the grades and a mean streak
  9. Coach Smith told me last week that Owens had "verbally committed to UT"
  10. Aydelott's got a stable - three returning that averaged 9 yards a tote last fall. Fullback Calvin Bryant is a bowling ball - he's as wide as he is tall - and he'll open the outside for Chris Woods and Marcellus Tibbs. If the Abernathy kid that transferred to Antioch from Lavergne is actually on the roster and eligible - he is a player. Also agree concerning Darius Barnes, who rushed for 1,000 at Brentwood Academy two years ago and another 800-900 last year for Coach Pigue. Whoever ends up at tailback for Overton will also have a solid year.
  11. I've got the Bucs 9th in the mid-state, figuring they'll battle Gallatin for the Region title. The lefty quarterback looks very good. Saw them in their spring scrimmage at Northwest and again last week at Hillsboro. They aren't as deep or as talented as the Burros, but they didn't back down and displayed some grit. I liked what I saw and expect they'll battle with the Wave and Brentwood for that spot in the semis. The sleeper out of those two regions will be Henry County, who's much improved and'll probably grab the two-seed from the Brentwood region.
  12. If Chattanooga wasn't pulling any huge profit off the Fling, how can Memphis guarantee the big bucks to the TSSAA? Where'll the funds come from? It sounds like a big gamble. I'll bet Memphis grabs that option out after devastating financial losses in the first year. There's just no way they can outdraw Chattanooga, people won't drive seven-plus hours unless their's a beach involved.
  13. Wesley Satterfield is qb/kicker at Trousdale County. Joe Sanders of Hillsboro has the size in the d-line. Cody Bliss is rocket punter at Brentwood Academy. Jacquez Williams at Gallatin is RB/DB playmaker. Austen Everson, QB at Brentwood, offers potential but is about to go through coaching change. Really feel the Russell kid at Hillsboro is vastly over-rated - saw them play four times last year and he wasn't even a blip on my screen. Aydelott's got the real deal in rising junior LB Walter Fisher, who goes about 6'3" and 220 and had 130 stops as a soph.
