  1. Bearden 3 Houston 1 Oak Ridge 3 Ravenwood 0
  2. Well that woud be stating the obvious. Have you seen the post for Livingston Academy? /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  3. Would you expect anymore from some people who post on here? Congrats Bearden on winning flat or not. Greenville, I have been a believer since I saw you play at the Katie Hunter. Nice way to come out and prove the game two weeks ago was not what your team is about. Great season for both and many more to come. Both are still young and getting wiser by the game. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  4. I apologize also. It just enforces what I already know about the soccer mentality of the majority in this area. I could start a whole new thread on that one!
  5. Ok, your turn. Put the quote into context...Eric was talking about the shot difference, 8-4. Most of the eight shots BHS had in the first half were in the first 10 minutes. He was NOT talking about the way BHS played. His earlier quote, "I did feel that way," said Turner. "With about 20 minutes left, I was like, 'Well, this is not our night.' The (Oak Ridge) keeper was playing great, making saves. We just couldn't seem to get behind them." Mentioning VP had nothing to do with it other then this...If you are going to tell what happened in the game then give facts and give credit where credit is due. How about the Kate Beil who put the cross in to help tie it. I have NO idea where she plays other then BHS. All I know is this girl doesn't get alot of mention but her role was just as big as any other player. How about Brianna Holmes, Oak Ridge, who came inches from making it a 2-1 game with a header. Has nothing to do with my EGO. I can assure you that don't know me well enough to make a statement like that. If you think you do, then look me up at any soccer field we are at, at the same time and introduce yourself.
  6. The short of it is this...Kat was playing up a year with my team. The next year when all of my players were freshman she would still be in 8th grade and would have to play on another team age appropriate. It was better for both parties to go ahead and let her play at her age level and for us to move on. NO travel was not the issue. IT was the best move for both parties and I have no regrets about letting Kat go. In the end it is what is best for the players. That is the way I coach by putting my ego aside for the good of the players development. She is still successful on her team, Velocity Premier, and the Mustangs are rolling right along. Do we miss her, YEP. We miss her spirit, her great smile and the poems the girl writes are genuine and great. We all miss the friendships with her family. The father is hilarious and we have shared many a drive to far off tournaments laughing till our stomachs hurt. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> My daughter still stays in touch as do alot of the girls on the team. It is all good! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  7. Please..."I made no mention to any specific players to protect their privacy?" Their names are in the paper. People on here are consistently naming the names of players who stand out and contribute to the game. My God there is a who topic devoted to who is the best in the State. Now we are so NOBLE to not name them. Sorry wrong again about taking something away from the competition. Read my reply before. I said OR out played BHS in the half I saw and should have won. Again seeing BHS play four times this season they looked a little flat. Maybe they even thought it would be an easier game for them...who knows. I don't know if there are nine VP players on BHS. I know of four. So making a logical statment based on assumptions or hearsay is not logical. I truly am I neutral in all of this. The statement "BHS is very talented and fast, with the Velocity Elite players" aims to make it sound like that is all BHS has. BHS has talent from alot of teams, U15-U18, and all deserve to be recognized. Knowing some the way I do, I am sure they like the exposure. I am out on this subject.
  8. Oh nice try to bait someone. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> You forgot the Impacts Amy Porter who is a tremendous player and oh yea, the KFC player, Ashley Howarth, who tied the game. Both are equally fast and just as dangerous. How could you say they were blowouts? I mean they weren't OR style blowouts, 51 goals in four games, so by that standard they were close competitive games evenly matched between two very skilled teams. So when the Lady Wildcat performance against Farragut is summerized as "not bringing their A game" or "Our performance over the weekend (in the Battle for the Blues City tournament) should have given us confidence. Instead, we came back flat" in a 3-1 loss...what does that mean? Could it be just FACT that on this night BHS was flat. Or as one OR fan put it last night when the same was said of Bearden, "stop making excuses because you didn't blow us out"! Which one...FACT OR EXCUSE/ Careful...as you also refering to the quotes above. /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> Yes, it was a good game. I thought OR controlled what I saw, the second half, and should have won. Still wondering why with little time left, and a direct kick in the middle of the field from about 20 yards out the decision to pass out to the right wing was made. In that situation put the ball on frame and maybe you score on the shot or get a rebound and score. Seems like rebounds can win games here lately...wouldn't you agree REPETE?
  9. Aren't they all the "worst calls or refs I have ever seen in my life". LOL /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Soccer67 is right...JUST ADJUST. If you go into a game thinking the refs are not going to be good then you are never disappointed. From there it can only get better if the ref seems knowledgeable. If the game is getting dangerous because the ref has allowed it to get that way then I will say something. But guess what you get then..."one more word and you are outta here." The guy has some badge on his shirt, thinks he is Soccer God now and anytime you ask, not question, about some calls he gets offended and shows his authority by threating to throw you out because his ego won't allow it from some Coach who could not possibly know more then he does. The BEST refs will give an explanation if asked and will listen to a reasonable request from a captain or coach to just watch the physical play. It is the few "bad apples" that just brush off a captain as some young kid who knows nothing or a coach as someone who is a threat to him. The BEST refs do all they can to get educated about the game. The BEST coaches and players do the same. Find out the ones that want to pull a paycheck only and do one of two things...Get them to be serious and educate themselves in the professionalism of HOW TO or GIT RID OF THEM! We expect it from coaches all the time in every sport. Don't do it right, don't care, don't win...they get fired unless they change. Are refs beyond that? Not one person better come back with "go get your license" or "quit complaining and get on the field". I have been a licensed ref, probably a much higher grade then alot of you. I got out of it because my love of the game is in coaching.
  10. Yes, well played game with Oak Ridge controlling the biggest part of the second half. Of the four times I have seen Bearden play this year they did seem somewhat flat with not as much energy as in previous matches. It was NOT the consensus before the game that Bearden would have an easy time or a blowout. It was hoped by many...not predicted. I being one of the neutrals as I was there to cheer my players not a particular team just wanted to see a good game.
  11. To answer your question...Kat CAN carry a team against weaker teams that can't stop her or stop her making her teammates better. She is the difference in those wins. Against teams with deeper depth then NO. It is within Kat's personality to make her teammates better. Oh, she will get hers and she loves to win make NO mistake about that. But she is a great teammate. She keeps things in perspective very well. Back when she played for me she had teammates that were as good as she was at that time. Kat never thought she was better and had such a nobility of character about her. She understood the BIG picture of TEAM. That is one of the qualities that I admired about Kat. When everyone around her wanted her to be all about Kat, she understood the team wins when everyone works together. I knew she had all the ability in the world when I first saw her. She was very raw technically, had some tactical understanding of the game, but what made her stand out was the PASSION for the game that I mentioned in my first reply. It's what makes ELITE players standout from all the rest. Some would read this and think I am trying to take credit for Kats ability because she played for me two years. All I did was clean up some technical, tactical, physical and mental parts of a blossoming player. What she taught me was far more immeasureable. I think she cleans up pretty good! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  12. Kat Nigro is a tremendous young lady. I spotted her, and brother, at a TN Soccer Camp back in '04 when I was doing goalkeeping and knew I had not seen her around Knoxville. When I asked her were she was from and she told me Cookeville area, my jaw hit the ground. She played for me from fall '04 to spring '06 and I always knew she would be one of the best. She has that passion for the game that only a truely ELITE player has. No one could believe that her parents would drive an hour and half to practice. Now that is common for quite a few players. Alot of players have a love for the game and excel at it. But Kat was always with ball at foot, watching professional games, studying the game and all it's details. She is attaining the goals we talked about back in '05. I am so proud of her as are her former teammates. Alot of them still stay in touch and keep up with all the goings on. All the Mustangs wish KAT the best and success.
  13. I did not see the first half. But the second was well played and Bearden controlled most of the play. It seemed as Farragut was waiting for Casey Ulrich to win it for them. Several players passed up shots to pass to Casey when they had a better chance. Casey did work hard for what she got. The Farragut parents were wanting alot of calls in the second half. It was physical and some play was very close to being a foul. I believe the ref did a good job letting the players play to decide the game. One Farragut player went down in the penalty area with about 15 minutes left and Farragut parents wanted a PK. The Bearden girl got the ball and the ref was right on top of it. The young lady hurt near the end was taken by ambulance to a hospital to get checked out. She took a hard shot to the head by the ball and someone said she had hurt her neck. That is all I know about that situation. We wish her a speedy recovery.
  14. What photo are we talking about? Did I miss something? I thought we were talking injuries not scrapes and "strawberry's" or burns from turf. The long pants and sleeves can help, but alot of times it still occurs. I wore pants during my HS days then switched to just shorts with compression shorts worn under. I will say those nasty burns you get that seep and then stick to your clothes are nasty to get healed. Best remedy I know of is aloe, cover with gauz and some GOOD tape when wearing clothes over the area. When you can wear loose clothing to let it breath and dry out till it can scab over in about two-three days.
  15. It would help to know who they play for. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  16. I don't understand. The clothing is not important. If you are refering to the padding a keeper can wear...then it still makes no difference. It is paper thin and made more for landing or sliding then for collisions. It isn't like we are talking football pads here which are made for collisions. The head gear I agree with. Not only from collisions, but kicks to head or hitting the post. My U14 keeper hit her head on the post this past weekend and luckily it was a big bump, but could have been split open. Most players will not wear it because of the look. But I would be in favor of them being mandatory through high school for all players. Gloves are a MUST and the brands that have plastic spines in the fingers are the best for preventing injuries. Again this postion and how to play it correctly is about training. It is the most under trained position on the team because alot of coaches don't know how to train them. If you don't know how to teach them properly then swallow your pride and ask someone that does.
  17. The above quote says it all...WHILE IN POSSESSION!! As a former keeper and now a keeper instructor getting hurt goes with the position. Often times a keeper is coming out for a ball and a player coming in, the GKer gains possession and the field player can't stop in time. A foul yes, a card NO if the intent was to play the ball. If a collision occurs in the spirit of the game then NO CARD. Also how many of the keepers playing have had specialized training so they KNOW how to protect themselves? That is one area that has to be tought technically and many times is over looked. I am a stickler for technical, technical and more technical so when they put themselves in harms way they will be doing it right and protecting themselves. In the above scenario if the keeper is taught correctly then the field player gets the bad end of the collision and it isn't the intent to injure them. I know the techniques work as I have been on the end of players rushing in. If not for the training from all of my coaches, then I could have suffered alot more injuries then what I did or they would have been worse. Referees also don't know alot of times how to call what a keeper is doing within the rules and what is a foul. I have had a referee tell my keeper to not bring her knee up when she leaves the ground to go for a high ball. Said if she did it again he would red card her. The ref just asked my keeper to expose herself to an injury when the intent of the leg being brought up is two fold...1. to help get the player higher in the jump and 2. to protect from incoming players who may try to under cut her. Long story short...If you play keeper then have good insurance.
  18. Oak Ridge 15 Halls 0 Don't get me started on this one. DISGRACEFUL /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />
  19. Powell 5 Cumberland County 2 Loudon 0 Halls 0 (Game called due to lightning with 20 minutes left in the first half.) One more thing...CAN WE PLEASE GET BACK TO POSTING SCORES! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  20. I guess we need to tell the girls in North Carolina and Georgia they are just out of luck when it comes to playing in college. /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> Playing guys in the fall and girls in the spring is what I was talking about, NOT doing both at the same time. Scheduling would be almost impossible, finding refs would be IMPOSSIBLE. If you switched guys to fall, why would there be anymore schedule conflicts with football then there are now with girls playing in the fall? Talk about tournaments missed...what about WAGS in October? Only the most well known WOMENS TOURNAMENT in the United States. Go to there web site and see what college coaches are attending this year. Oh, and just FYI...the Head Coach typically does not go. They have an assistant in charge of recruiting make the trip, scout the players and report back to the Head Coach. Colleges may be in season, but they don't forget where the talent is playing and they are there. You did state the obvious though...College Coaches don't go to HS games. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> Texas Cup is early November Disney and Orange Classic are held in December so it would not interfere with either fall or spring. We could start a whole new topic on "Why ALOT of HS Coaches don't like club soccer, but love the results". The TSSAA rule is fine the way it is and I would agree that it would most likely be to much. My hope is that TSSAA, HS and Club coaches could work together. In the big picture it helps the players, the HS program and the club, soccer as a whole in the area and throughout the state.
  21. I think everyones point on this is correct. I would like to see Tennessee reverse the seasons, girls in spring and boys in fall. The girls miss so many good tournaments in the fall and when they do play club in the spring we can't play in North Carolina, Alabama and Georgia because they are playing high school. Florida is the only state I know in Region 3 that allows them to do both. BigG is correct about middle school also. I know middle schools in the Chattanooga area are members of TMSAA so alot of those girls can't play until October when middle school soccer is going. I feel a certain amount of pride when I see my players score goals, make a big save, play some great defense or slot a ball through to complete a great run. I have always said that I have no problem with players playing high school. I think it is great to see them suit up for their school.
  22. Chances R and BigG have it correct.
  23. Cleveland 10 William Blount 0
  24. I had two players last year tear the ACL. One during high school and the other before high school as we prepared for Regionals. I wish both of these young ladies, I don't know them, speedy recovery and best of luck in future soccer commitments.
