  1. I think this years Alcoa team has a lot to prove. Many Alcoa people, myself very much included, keeps saying this team will not be the same as the previous two Alcoa teams and I think this group of seniors and juniors wants to prove to everyone that they can win one by themselves. They have worked extremely hard and are continuing to get better every week. So for all you Goodpasture people all I have to say is... NOT SO FAST MY FRIENDS We heard all the same stuff about Goodpasture last year and how they were going to run all over Alcoa, and blah blah blah blah. It will not happen again this year. Alcoa is way to talented again, and this year, the coaching seems to be better for Alcoa. Rankin began to throw the ball down the field to his playmakers and that will mean trouble for all of the DB's in 2A because there isnt a team in the state that has 2 DB's to matchup with Kyrus and Brian all night long. And if you double them or pay to much attention to them, then whoop, Shiverdecker breaks for about a 60 yard TD run, Goodpasture fans should remember him very well (he's the guy who won the MVP and shredded your defense and special teams).
  2. any of you people that said alcoa will lose by 14 or 21, please give me some contact information so i can bet about 10,000 dollars on the game with you with that kind of spread....
  3. Can I get some stats from the game, from Alcoa's side and yalls overview of the game, Im at college so I rely on yalls info...
  4. Im not critiquing Rankin at all, he is a great coach and a really nice guy, he was very supportive of me and baseball while he was at the school. He will do a lot of great things for Alcoa football. But what I am tired of is people saying how this years team is better than last. The 2005 team MIGHT be the best to come through Alcoa, MAYBE.
  5. There is no way in you know what the the 2006 team is better than the 2005.... Quarterback: 2005, Joei was a four year starter and an All State QB Running Backs: 2005, Duck was a D-1 running back, and also had Shiverdecker. Receiver: 2005, Just having Brandon makes this an easy choice because he drew double teams that really opened it up for Kyrus and Brian. Offensive Line: By far 2005, you can not replace Colton, Martin, and Drew. They all three started every game the last 3 years and allowed Duck and Shivy huge lanes to run through and Joei plenty of time to pass. Defensive Line: By far 2005, this years defensive line is talented and fast, but not very big. Last years line had both blazing speed, talent, size and strength. Mark Avery was a beast, not to mention Brandon and Drew. Linebackers: Even, last years group was a little bigger, but this years group is really really fast, Troy Hodge is going to develop into a great LB. Secondary: Even, both units were very very solid.
  6. Conservative play calling has been the biggest critique of Rankin, and I have been very guilty of this, but like I said earlier in the Maryville/Alcoa board, why would Rankin want to bring out everything in his playbook for non-region games? Yes, Maryville means a lot to Alcoa, and yes beating bigger schools like Fulton and McCallie are really nice, but would you rather have a win against Maryville, or a state championship ring? To me thats a no brainer, I would take the ring without hesitation. Rankin is giving Randall time to develop early in the season here, I think people tend to forget that this is Randalls first time playing QB for Alcoa whent the score wasnt already 42-0. Joei developed into a great QB, but if you remember it took him 1 to 1 1/2 years to develop into that great QB. Also in Reid's first season as coach, Alcoa struggled to score points early in the season and people were saying the same things, the playing calling is too conservative and vanilla and he needs to use his weapons more. As the season went on Joei got more comfortable with the offense and Alcoa began to score points in bunches. Give Randall a little more time to develop and Rankin a little more time to totally feel out his offense and you will start to see the scoreboard lighting up again at Goddard Field like always. Alcoa has too many weapons to not accomplish this. By the way, Coach Reid is 1-0 at his new school with a 42-16 opening game victory.
  7. After whats happened in Alcoa's first three games, this is the biggest game of the year for them. How will they respond to a little adversity? I believe Rankin will have them fully prepared and fired up and hopefully Alcoa will take the next step into developing into a championship level team Alcoa 28 Loudon 0 That would make three straight shutouts for Alcoa vs Loudon, lol...
  8. All comparsions to the 2005 Alcoa team stop right now. This team lacks the firepower and line play to be considered on the same level as the 2005 team
  9. Alcoa makes a big statement tonight againt Fulton, just like last year.... On a different subject, you people need to hold your judgement about being better than last years team or the year before untill this team wraps up the season. I fully expect Alcoa to be 14-1 and win a 3rd straight state championship, but you cant say this team is better just because they played Maryville close. Alcoa 28 Fulton 7
  10. Great game, couldnt ask for better effort by the Tornadoes and this should be a great ride under Rankin. I was one of the fans at the game saying why is Rankin running the option or a draw on 3rd and 7......but if you think about it Rankin is worried about that gold ball, so he is letting Randall develop slowly and not put to much on him to soon so that by week 7 or 8 he has supreme confidence in all parts of the offense. No team the rest of the year will come close to Alcoa, not Fulton not McCallie, not anybody, they are toooooo good. I believe the biggest play of the game was very early in the game, I believe Maryville's 2nd or 3rd drive. Maryville tried to run a screen and Rae read it perfect and the Maryville QB threw it right to Rae and it went right through Rae's hands. Nobody would have caught him and it would have been 6 for the Tornadoes. Thats seems to be the difference in this rivalry, Maryville makes those plays and we dont. Maples is absolutely sick with the ball in his hands, he will be All-SEC one day at UT. I dont think, and I have never thought, Derek Hunt should take a single snap for Maryville, Burnette is a D-1 level QB and should take every snap, but its hard to argue with GQ's success. Good Luck to both teams, this will be the only game I can attend untill both are in the Boro and I can make the short drive down from WKU and watch both teams take their 3rd straight.
  11. Alcoa 14 Maryville 7 Looks familiar to a score from the last time all of the circumstances going into the game were the same. GO ALCOA!!!!!!!!
  12. if you post something like that coacht will shut it down
  13. No it wasnt closed last year when brandon was catching so much grief so the maryville people should be entitled to the same thing
  14. Also, what Tank and Company did was a heck of a lot worse then what Brandon did last year. Brandon didnt put his own life and other peoples lifes in danger
  15. Why is it that when an Alcoa player gets suspended from a game that the details about the situation are open for everyone, and all the Maryville people take shots at the kid because they dont have players with the talent level of Brandon. Now that Maryville players are suspended all of the Maryville fans are getting on here saying how it doesnt need to be discussed and all this crap. I know what happened, and by 9am tomorrow so will everyone at AHS because its such a small town. The Maryville kids should have to face the public scurtiny that comes with making mistakes in our society, you cant hide from them. Maryville fans out here will dish out their harsh words to any Alcoa player/coach on here, but if anyone attempts to get on a Maryville player/coach then every Maryville person on here attacks the people for taking bashes at high school kids. This is bull, Tank and company should have to face the effects of their mistakes, because friday at the game the Alcoa students will be ALL over them, and any other student section in the state would do the same. Maryville will lose this game, losing Tank and the other running back will hurt more than you think, it doesnt matter how good of a coach you are, if you have 150 pound sophomore tailbacks(according to a earlier post) then you cant not when a big time football game.
  16. nah i havent, ive just been home from college a few days and havent been around any of the current high school football players, but somebody said it was on volquest right now, so i dont know. it would be a great catch for TN, brian can really play some DB and will continue to get better
  17. they are all great players, but i think those two are just a level above the rest, and i also believe tyler and rae to be above the rest of the group and just below harrison and donald
  18. Harrison Smith/Chris Donald.......hands down
  19. I dont see Rae as a factor, the last 2 years Maryville has ran away from Brandon Warren on every play, and who did they run right at??? That would be Rae. Rae is a great athlete with a lot of potential, but he stands up way to much on defense and Maryville has used this to their advantage in the past years with their great technique on the offensive line. I think the Power I formation will give Maryville some trouble. The offensive line looked really good in scrimmages and the jamboree, and not to mention the beef and hard hitting that Hicks and Stultz bring from fullback. Shivy also looked great, seems to have got a lot better. Alcoa will be successful with this, but not all game long. I look at this game just like Maryville's state championship games have been in the past. Everybody thought Maryville would get beat, but the coaching staff came through for them by making good adjustments, by varying up formations and play calling, and by using some trick plays. These are the things that Alcoa must do, and it will be hard against GQ, but he is mortal, and I have confidence in Rankin and his staff. Maryville fans.......what would be a good time to arrive at the stadium for a good seat, I was thinking about 530.
  20. I will be interested to see how Alcoa reacts to adversity this season after losing the great class of 2006. The past years all the kids had looked to the class of 2006 for its leadership and game changing plays, hopefully a few kids will be able to step up and fill these roles. THIS WILL BE THE DIFFERENCE IN ANOTHER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP OR NOT. Mark my word.
  21. I am no longer in school to experience this great rivalry first hand, but I can still get on here and argue back and forth with you fellas. I think Coach Rankin will bring a great new attitude to the Alcoa program. During spring practice all of the players had great things to say about him and were very anxious to get started up again. Coach Rankin is a proven winner, but beating Maryville is a very very tough task. Last year was our year to do it, but we got so out coached that it wasnt even funny. Alcoa was not prepared for Maryville at all, coaches thought they could just out muscle and out athlete Maryville with base plays, and nobody in the state can do that, and it showed. I had one Maryville defender tell me that they knew what Alcoa was running every play. I hope Coach Rankin can bring some respectable scores back to this great rivalry, and Im sure he will. Im not saying Alcoa is going to win all the time, just give some good games. I will definetly have to come home from college to see the game and the great atmosphere. I heard Alcoa went up to the Univ of Kent. for a passing league thing, if thats true, how did they do????
  22. I graduated this past year from Alcoa with Brandon and all the fellas, and now I am continuing my baseball career at Western Kentucky so I called a few of my boys to "see how things were down in Alcoa." This has been my first week of summer school so I was just seeing what was up at home.
  23. Brandon did get his ACT scores back this week and finished up his on line courses this week too. He is FULLY elgible to play at FSU next year and will be leaving as soon as he gets himself ready to leave. I know this because I called him last night and talked to him about it and how everything was down in Alcoa.
  24. Curious as to when the teams are announced
  25. Give it up already man, we didnt deserve to advance by the way we played against Carter. We couldnt get hits with runners on base, and we couldnt make the defensive plays when it counted late in the game and Carter did, end of story. Seymour, Gibbs, yall better represent us good these next couple weeks, dont let AC and Loudon put you out, show them who runs AA around here. Good luck to you both. I am going to greatly miss competing against all of you guys and I wish all of you the best of luck in the rest of your baseball playing days and the rest of your life. Strive for the best in all you do and good things will come to you.
