You obviously haven't known this kid for long, middle school, optimist, trust me this kid is always on the injured list. Also since you know talent so well, this kid had his chance to show up last year as a frosh against Sensabaugh, can I just say that there was one D1 prospect out there and the other one choked.

D1, yeah right if it can be played on the sidelines. This kid is injured by the 2nd game of the year EVERY year. You can't be D1 if you never play. Unfortunately the Cassels will probably have to get used to it. There seems to be a click of parents who are all about their kid and not about the team. Most are whinny daddy's who are so insecure about their kids playing time that they put down kids on their own team. Point in case I've heard one dad in the stands last year (and the year before) whinning because a fresh/sophomore was getting more playing time than their kid. Same person determined to "oust" kids family because of it. Ridiculous! Nothing but SW VA bull crap brought to South. Why don't you daddy's keep your mouths shut and let the kids play ball! This program could do without you running the kids down and supporting the team.

Just out of curiosity; Is Maryvilles QB a senior? If so, is he being recruited? By who? What combines did he attend? Was he separated with the "elite" bunch? Any offers? Who? Committed to anyone? Also, are there other seniors on the team who are being recruited? What possitions and by who? Not that any of this makes a difference as I said, asking only because so much is being said about talent level at Maryville so one would conclude that this talent has been seen by folks at the next level.

Don't know who this Brian Smith is but I believe that he missed a key contributor to the South O and D line #52. I believe you missed one...in 84 South won in regular season play (per above) and also defeated Greenville in overtime to win the Big 9 / IMAC Bowl same year following week.

Some interesting facts; after an intense battle South won the MLC last night, South's JV completed an undefeated season, South's Freshman won, Colonial Heights Middle School won the area one large middle school championship defeating Science Hill last week, Colonial Heights Optimist Varsity and JV won the Sullivan County league championships today! I would say that our boys and their feeder programs have had an awesome season with the probability of several more successful years to come. Congratulations to the Rebels varsity, JV, Freshman, CHMS Chargers, both Optimist teams, and all coaches! The tradition continues!!! GO REBELS!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your comment about the O/D line Cap. Other than Souths line coach, I don't think this bunch gets the credit it is due! These boys had the toughest job of all, going up against the THS line!! We knew those boys were big and strong and trust me it was all out war on the line ALL NIGHT LONG!!! The Viks played the game tough and I think the two will see each other again. Undoubtedly the best game of the Rebs season! Congratulations and GO REBELS!

Exactly! The problem here is that the media, fans, and coaches have and (continue to) promote one player and not the TEAM. Preseason I heard a parent say "there won't be anyone on this team other than Curt this season." With his talents and ability it is easy to accept. Unfortunately I believe it is evident that the team has bought into this as well. There are several other players who have potential to play at the next level seniors AND juniors (although maybe not D 1) but apparently that's just not good enough for anyone to talk about. Whenever we bring the focus back to TEAM and not on individuals the Rebs will bring it. I think it is a confidence issue for many. When our starters truly accept Curts leadership and determination to win (not for themselves but for the TEAM) we will see results! Enabling confidence among the TEAM will be up to the coaches!

Comp, I agree that Souths defense is in trouble. If one is looking to just have fun and enjoy a few wins playing football for South then I guess one would be satisfied with where we are. But I agree with you! This is a year and the time for South to make it all the way but like you said the Rebs have got to be hungry for it! Instead it appears that the whole team is buying into the one man show thing and in the end, this will kill us! (Again, nothing taken away from Curt he is playing his heart out!) As far as the defensive line, I heard from a friend that the coaches have told them not to worry about making tackles that it's up to the linebackers to make tackles. If this is true, it might explain how "timid" the line is playing! The rebs have size and tons of ability and they should be using it, ALL OF IT! Agreed that improvement on D will be imperative to pull off a win against anyone in the playoffs. Hopefully instead of looking back and saying we should have, I hope they will reignite that fire they began the season with and look back saying "WE DID IT"! Plenty of season left for this to happen! If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, well it just may be a duck. The officiating was the pits! I've watched the film, HAVE YOU? I never took anything away from the Green Devil's win but those refs stunk it up! Did this change the game? Only if you consider morale. Just one more thing the Rebs will have to improve upon going forward. The line you say O and D again watch the film my friend. If you didn't record it there are quite a few copies floating around. As with any loss there are many improvements to be made. The Rebs have taken there knocks before, accepted defeat and have risen from it and that's what South's gonna do again! (And I believe that is what Greenville did last night!) Oh for whoever made the post about the 15 minute wait for the injured south player and how it was difficult for GHS kicker mentally to pull it together...First of all he did and he put the icing on the cake! I would suggest that perhaps you may want to discuss this with the GHS AD. Again pathetic that it took 20 minutes to get an ambulance there! I sincerely hope that NONE of your players or any players on a visiting team have a LIFE THREATING injury because they will be gone before help arrives! Food for thought my friend. Tough game for our mighty Rebels last night. Hats off to a VERY tough opponent! Disappointed with the play calling! It appeared from the stands that the boys were ready to go for it on 4th down but coach opted to go for the field goal. Too bad all that pressure was put on that kid! I didn't see anyone post about the officials calling this game, PATHETIC!!! TSSAA must have been scraping the bottom of the barrel with that crew!!!!!! As far as the Rasnake kid, I hear he had a stomach virus before the Unicoi game but didn't miss a practice, was out some this week practiced the rest carrying gallons of gator aid to school everyday and if you were at both games you know that this kid didn't let a little thing like a virus keep him from playing 100%, anyway I hear he's out for a while could hurt us against Johnson Co. Again, congrats to Greenville! Rebs are just going to have to clear their heads, utilize all of their talent, and bring it! I agree with Phillips, we're not going to loose any more. You are right GOOD LINEMAN are not a dime a dozen so you may want to show them a little more respect. South is fortunate to have not only size but experience out front some going both ways. For a football fan you should know that without a strong line our RB's/WR's wouldn't be able to put on such a show. Obviously 06 was a great team! I haven't seen anyone post otherwise. To say that they were the best team South has ever fielded, no way! Anyone who has worked out in the weight room has seen the pictures of those who have passed before and know that South has fielded a lot of talent! Instead of dwelling on which team is better than that one, let's look at it this way (and if you haven't learned this yet you must be very young) there is always going to be someone smarter, richer, better looking, more talented, luckier, than you. If the 07 team is a stronger South team than ever they will prove it on the field just like the other teams have had the opportunity to do. Since you commented about leadership I will respond, yes the 07 team has leadership. It is the leadership of the senior class that has strengthened the team as a whole. Because of their example, (undefeated as Freshman, and having lost only 2 regular season games both of which were non-conference) the senior class bring to the field a sense of confidence, pride, and dedication to the game. In fact, if you have read some of the testimonies of the some of the team captains you will see that they are also a determined bunch! Some have worked very hard to have a chance on that field. The underclassmen seem to respect this and they too demonstrate pride in the team, and a lot of class on the field. On the whole if you, my friend, ever have the opportunity to see the teamwork and leadership of not only the team captains, but the junior class leadership, and sophomore leaders you would detect a difference in the attitude of this team. They are strong, talented, and have already proven their ability to anihilate a 5 A school. Let's sit back, enjoy/participate in the ride as this team has its' opportunity for a 3 peat, and GO REBELS!!!

Wow! Is the word! The win was great yes, but the sportsmanship and class displayed by SHS helped me to understand why we chose to eliminate DB from our schedule. It was terrific to see two teams warm up then take the field without any vulgar gestures made to our coaching staff or the fans. Definately reminicent of old times with the stands full on both sides as two titans clash below! I am proud of our team, the way they played, and despite the news medias portrayal, South is a team and not a one man show which was self evident tonight! My hopes is for South to see a 3-peat this year which will be the first ever in school history; that some parents who write into this forum to bash our coaching staff and the young men who are members of this great team realize that they are a cancer and this win tonight will be the chemo to rid us of vermin like you; and that everyone realizes that they are seeing history unfold infront of them as this senior class is the winningest class to have come through South! Did you know that many of the seniors on this team have played together since Optimist league where they won the County Championship 5th, 6th, (undefeated) went on to win the Sullivan County Middle School Championship 7th, 8th, (undefeated) were undefeated yet again as Freshman here at South, not to mention, helped to earn the MLC title as sophomores in 05, again as juniors in 06, and are due to 3peat this year! So any of you sophomore parents who can beat a record like that PROVE it, Yeah, that's what I thought you can't!! So quit running down our team, let our seniors enjoy what they have worked hard for, and earn your chance to do the same!
