  1. Thank you Warriors. It sounds like somewhat I was expecting, in that, last year, the offense was basically the Bradley offense with a few wrinkles added in until Smith's injury, given that there was a 2 1/2 year starter at QB. Is it fair to say that this coming year the current coach will be running his own brand of offense as opposed to running primarily the Bradley offense, although with a few wrinkles? So, what is the remaining 7 on 7 and scrimmage schedule? As I'm sure you recall, my kids are (way) out of high school so I no longer have the direct schedule info that I used to have. Your thoughts, opinions, and info are greatly appreciated. There are few that love the program any MORE than I do, even though I don't have a player on the team. I've been at the games for a long time and intend to be at the games for a long time in the future.
  2. Interested on any takes on CAK for 2017.
  3. I have been waiting for my teacher to let me out of the corner since 5th grade. Should I go ahead and leave or keep waiting? I will not talk in class. I will not talk in class. I will not talk in class. Just practicing.
  4. It seems like injuries are more of an issue than ever before. I guess its just bigger stronger and faster players making bigger collisions.
  5. What a great game idea! I hope that happens. I really liked when Alcoa and Maryville did the "bowl" thing a few years ago. That was fun, and if memory serves, it was played on a Thursday night so other teams fans could attend too, which had to help the gate.
  6. Yes, would have been nice to see some balance, but generally Alcoa has great athletes that can man up even against great passing qbs. I think etown was smart not to risk a couple of picks since their run was so strong.
  7. I expected their line to be good from what I read, but their entire front 7 was excellent.
  8. Yes, that is a little strange. Right into the strength of the defense. But hey, it worked! Alcoa had shown it could throw the ball effectively. Surprised like you that they didn't mix it up more.
  9. Ok my friend, you never were one for polite conversation with me lol. I'm happy for you...that you're so happy. Life is good. Football is the greatest game ever invented, but still a game. Congratulations to your team on another gold ball.
  10. May I ask for a candid assessment of what USJ has coming back and on the benches as far as next year? Also, what kind of roster numbers do you expect to have if you know?
  11. Am I mistaken or did I read a comment or two by the Alcoa faithful that Rankin held back on what he was showing? I can't imagine in this tight of a game that he wouldn't be doing everything he could do to make sure he advanced? Maybe I read that on a different thread and am getting confused.
  12. I see this as a two sided coin, and who knows which side will land "up." On the one hand, the region is getting tougher. On the other hand, it will not be year one in a totally different system, and Bradley is a very good coach, not to mention having his father as an assistant that was an SEC assistant during the National Championship year at TN. It will be interesting to see which factor carries the day. Question for you D2 West experts. So are Lausanne, St. George, and FACS perennial contenders? Do they pretty much just reload like Webb, or was this a particularly good year for them?
  13. Thank you! Those thoughts are mutual!
  14. Interesting observation. Best wishes to your fine program at the Championship!
  15. I have to admit, although I thought Betsy was a very good team, I didn't see them holding Alcoa to 17 points, or only winning by 3. I felt like there was a bigger gap (prior to the game) between Alcoa and the rest of 3A. Reading back through the thread, I think a lot of Alcoa fans felt the same way. Not that Etown wasn't a good team, but that they weren't capable of playing that kind of close game against a team that could hang in there with Maryville. What a fantastic game! Congratulations to Alcoa on finding a way to keep moving as you usually do, and congratulations to Betsy for proving that even if you don't play the hardest schedule, it does not necessarily mean that you wouldn't have won if you HAD. Great game for 2 great programs. Best of luck to Alcoa next week, and Betsy in the offseason. And if, due to the split, we don't have a chance to meet again soon, I have some great memories of some great games against both fine programs!
  16. Thank you sir for the nice comments. You guys have a lot coming back. CAK has a lot coming back but a huge hole is created by losing a 3 1/2 year starting QB in a QB oriented system, who was a college level prospect. It remains to be seen what CAK can do in the offseason to get ready for next year. My prediction is that it is going to take ALL the new D2 schools some time to get in some scholarship athletes to mix in with their other kids in order to be competitive in D2. There is a reason they were separated, and since freshmen that effect the outcome are rare, I predict some tough sledding for the next couple of years for new D2 schools. To bring this back to the home topic in this thread, USJ had a great season. Under the first new coach they've had in quite a few years, they managed to make it in the playoffs until they faced a team that very possibly may win the division. Webb will have its hands full, as will Lausanne with Webb. Not bad for year 1. I have a lot of respect for coach Meske and Webb, even though I'm ok if they never win another game against CAK (ha). Good luck to DCA, and I hope we get to meet you guys again. It was a lot of fun the last couple of years, and I am a little partial to schools similar in their mission to our school. As for USJ, congratulations on a great season! The seniors helped set the tone for a program on the rise. They adapted well and I suspect the school is very proud of you and the hard work you put in as well as the great season you had!
  17. I appreciate your comments and opinions, but I never compared FACS to CAK. I gave my opinion on what I thought an FACS vs. USJ rematch would result in based on results and match ups that I was aware of. FACS was LUCKY to come back and win in the first game against USJ. They were fortunate to face a USJ team in a new system with a QB that had not even been able to practice and yet USJ had the game won until an extremely unlikely series of events resulted in an unlikely comeback, and IMO had they played again, FACS would not have seen the same team they played in week one. FACS never matched up or played CAK, nor did I compare the 2. However, CAK did play DCA. Those results are on the books. I totally disagree that DCA was the better team. Turnovers and incompletions to "open" receivers are a part of the game my friend. The facts are the facts. DCA was a fine team, and I NEVER was critical of them. My opinion was about USJ, whom I think is better at the end of the season than CAK was. Now if you want to argue whether CAK with their starting QB was better than DCA (that is perhaps a discussion for another thread) you are welcome to believe as you wish. But if you start playing the "IF ONLY" game remember this: Both teams can play that imaginary game. So if DCA gets to pick plays and make them work, that in reality didn't, then CAK gets to have imaginary results on plays too. It was not a 1 point come back in overtime victory by CAK. The score was 47 to 35 CAK. That is not a blow out, nor did I say it was, but CAK won convincingly by 12 points. Holding on to the ball, hitting open receivers, etc. are all part of the game, and CAK was better than DCA that night. They didn't play a best of 7, and although I am confident in how that would have come out, that is not the way football is played. Best wishes to your team, and maybe we'll get a chance to meet one day over a burger or something.
  18. I really enjoyed our couple of games with Boyd, and loved the atmosphere at their stadium. I am looking forward to getting to renew that "relationship." I do think its going to take all the new D2 schools some time to get the scholarship talent level where it needs to be to compete in that classification. Am I thinking correctly, that unless a "transfer" scholarship or not, comes in as a freshman, he will have to sit a year? If so, that is going to make it hard for the new schools to have to either field some new talented kids, but whom are 9th graders, or wait at least one year for a kid who is even willing to sit a year. That's a tough spot. I predict its going to take a while for the new D2 schools to ramp up to where they need to be to be at the top of the heap. But who knows?
  19. Fortunately, I am easily entertained! And yes I was. Loved some of those great quotes. I started to chime in with Bushisms that are my personal favorites, such as, "nuclear power pants" and many others, but decided to just enjoy those from the other posters.
  20. Going to be interesting this week. Lausanne is obviously a great team. You don't just get lucky and get to 12-0. However, I wonder how many teams they have faced that challenge their secondary on nearly every play? I've seen many times where a team that is built to stop the run isn't a good match up for the offense they are going to face this week. Don't get me wrong, Lausanne is the favorite and should be, but I wouldn't want to be one laying a bunch of money on a USJ loss this week... Regardless, congratulations to USJ on a great season, so far, whatever happens. Your program is in great shape and great hands. I'll be watching closely, and if you pull this one out, I'll be at the State game to support USJ and CRB and family.
