  1. I remember the hit against the coach's son, classic! So many great players and great games and memories it's hard to pick, but IMO the most dominant player I've ever seen in HS was Shawn Summers. Saw every game he played in. He was a joy to watch, and loved when he played LB in the championship game. Roll Wildcats Roll
  2. We have been to many many many of the same games my friend. OR alum '84. Went to every game (literally every game) until my kids started HS at CAK. I froze in the state games and lost it when we had the horses and lost to Jeff Co in 95 I believe it was. I still make about 2 games a year and follow the program closely. Glad to see OR having a great season and hope they keep it up.
  3. You sir are a joy to talk to and help keep the D2 board bearable. We need help.
  4. Big time Milan respecter here, but due to personal ties gotta pull for USJ this week. Milan is the favorite, but I would not be surprised to see this turn into a game.
  5. Please tell me that the D2 board will be resuscitated next year. Surely with a new injection in schools it will be revived to life. If it were not for a few non D2 posters chiming in, I'm afraid this section of the board would have already been declared DOA....Kudos to the few that participate. You are like a whale in a small pond of conversation.
  6. Open date is undefeated in all my years of watching HS football. As good as the Rebels are, no one can match Open Date. (I hear there are serious recruiting violations being reported...) I think if Maryville keeps their composure and isn't beat by the sheer intimidation, they could possibly play for a tie.
  7. I remember both of those games! Great memories (except for the poor kid transported by helicopter). But my favorite Spencer game was against Farragut lol. I have never seen the sweep run as effectively as that night. I am betting some of those boys in blue still have nightmares....It was freaking incredible. Am I remembering right that he had about 350 yards or am I getting a bad memory in my old age? PS: The picture in my office has OR 17, Riverdale 0 lol.
  8. It will be interesting. I would not bet that there is anyone on USJ's schedule that they can't compete with. Win? Who knows. But if they have a good night and don't just fail to show up (which is not the mark of a CRB team) or have inordinate turnovers i.e. good decisions by the QB, I believe they may be a contender right now, year 1. That is asking a lot from a dramatic wholesale change from the past system, and probably too soon, but frankly I personally would not bet my hard earned money against them....
  9. Well I finally managed to look at the right week on the schedule... While I think CAK is strong, they have started slowly. You also can't underestimate the fact that Clinton is just a much larger school and CAK has roughly 45 players including freshmen available. Don't get me wrong, I'm not pulling a Lou Holtz, CAK is a very good team, but they are still 3A with 3A type depth and numbers of players. If Clinton is able to throw the ball effectively, or has very good team speed, they could give the Warriors trouble. On the other hand, Clinton will not see a passing attack like CAK's. Should frankly make for an interesting game.
  10. Well....usually. But I can think of quite a few exceptions in 3A ball. I do think Milan is the favorite here, and if they can make USJ one dimensional (pass only) it could be a long night for USJ. But I think the system they are going to face is going to pose real problems for anyone they face, unless they can get a consistent pass rush with 4 and have the athletes to man up and stay in the hip pocket of the USJ receivers. I suspect that USJ is a year away from being fully functional in their new system, but they may be ahead of schedule. If they are, look out, unless Milan has a bunch of athletes who can run against a double and triple move high school passing attack. Easier said than done....
  11. As I mentioned before, if you had originally stated that Webb was the better team or the better team that night, I would not have even addressed it. (You may have noticed that I didn't disagree with your second post that clarified your point.) I agree with you. Webb is better than CAK this year, as CAK was better than Webb last year. However, It is all about match ups. CAK's offense was a tougher match up for Webb than DCA, which I thought would likely be the case.Webb has a great program, great school, and are D2 and can include athletes that could never attend a D1 private. That is getting ready to change. It will take a while for new D2 schools to convert from D1 to D2 since a school cannot be the one to initiate contact. But it will happen over time, or CAK will no longer be competitive. There is a reason that there is a division between D1 and D2 that allows scholarship athletes. Best of luck to both of these teams going forward. Many of my family friends have or had kids that attended Webb. Thank you for the details about the DCA game. My curiosity had nothing to do with whether Webb or CAK was a better team this year, it had to do with being interested since we had played both of them.
  12. I think you are right! I do think Milan is the favorite, but I think there is a definite possibility that CRB and crew give Milan a game and may even come out on top.
  13. For those of us that weren't there, can you give just a bit of detail? Did Webb score on long runs with their speed, or long sustained drives etc? Also, did the big MLB for DCA play tonight? Was DCA able to move the ball at all?
  14. Looking forward to the game tonight. Here's hoping for a CLEAN game and no injuries on either team. Warriors2011, how do we look on the injury front? Any one expected back this week, or anyone expected out from last week? Do you see any shifts in the line up tonight?
  15. I wish I could be at this game. I liked DCA's speed with #6. I don't know that he is a nationally ranked track star like Webb's 8th grader, but he is clearly faster than anyone on CAK's team this year. DCA's QB and passing game is very effective in the short yardage patterns, but (with only seeing one game) I didn't get the feeling that it was dangerous on longer patterns, and it is not as detailed as say CAK's passing attack. CAK's corners have a long way to go, and the only thing that saves us is a very good deep safety who can play the run and the pass, and a good pass rush to limit time for the QB to find his target. DCA had receivers running right past CAK's corners but couldn't connect. To me, they were very balanced run / pass but only on short pass patterns. If they can connect on a few long balls too, they may give Webb a game. Webb has more overall team speed by far in my estimation, with perhaps only #6 on DCA that can run with Webb's fastest 3-4 guys. I believe Webb is the better overall team, just judging from seeing each one only once. If DCA was coming in a full strength I would give the edge to Webb, but with DCA banged up, I agree that Webb has to be the heavy favorite. But that is why they play the game on the field and not on paper.... Edit: One final observation: 2 long trips to Knoxville, 2 weeks in a row does not help DCA at all. Should be a fun game to watch, especially the first 2-3 quarters, and who knows, DCA may connect on some long balls and give Webb a tough 4 quarters. Good luck and safe wishes to both teams!
  16. I apologize! My eyes got the best of me and I looked at the wrong week! CAK and Clinton play next week. Please excuse the oversight!
  17. I recognize that Warrior fans may see the CAK / Webb game through Warrior eyes, but I believe you are seeing this game through "Spartan Eyes." Let me explain why I believe that. Disclaimer: I disagree with any Warrior fan who says CAK "should" have won that game. A more accurate view in my opinion is that, "CAK could have very possibly won that game, but didn't." Your post that CAK scored a couple of times very late after being down 17 paints a picture for those that weren't there and can only read about it that is not accurate, and may not be what you intended. It makes it sound like Webb had a comfortable lead and perhaps had put in their back up players which allowed CAK to get back in the game. This simply is not the case. While Webb substituted from time to time, as did CAK, due to a player getting dinged up, or giving a player a play or two to catch his breath, Webb played their starters by in large all 4 quarters, as did CAK. The difference in the final score of this game came down to CAK uncharacteristically missing an extra point earlier in the game, which caused them go for two after their next touch down. They missed on the two point attempt. This accounted for the two point deficit that prevented this game from going into over time. Had CAK not missed the extra point, they would not have gone for two the next touchdown. CAK has not had a systemic problem with extra points this year. This was an anomaly. Had the game gone into over time, who knows what would have happened given high school overtime rules, both teams starting from the 10. Either Webb or CAK may have been the better overall team and yet lost in a HS overtime. Happens all the time that the best team does not win in overtime, and it could have gone either way. IMO, Webb's strength was tremendous speed from the 8th grade track star and a couple of other players. I believe CAK "won more plays" and had more sustained drives for scores, while Webb would get stopped for a play or two, and then one of their speedsters would break through and CAK had no one on the field that could catch them. This is all part of the game, but my point is that CAK was effective against Webb, not dominated by them. CAK simply had no answer for the tremendous speed Webb has, yet came very close to forcing over time. Both teams scored 5 TD's. CAK only plays a couple of players both ways. Perhaps this has contributed to CAK being a second half team all year. There have been a couple of games where CAK took control from the beginning and carried it throughout, but several times this year, they have fallen behind, only to storm back and win, or in the case of Webb, almost force overtime. This could be a result of CAK playing very few players both ways, excellent conditioning of CAK players, or an indication that CAK needs to be more ready to play from the opening whistle (like the Vols). Possibly it could be some combination of those and other factors. But it has not been out of the norm for CAK to come back from a deficit, and their offense is PERFECT for fast possessions leading to scores, and no realistic deficit is out of reach. Webb, IMO, saw this first hand. This was a highly competitive game, and Webb was fortunate to have speed that CAK could not match, and fortunate that CAK was not able to squeeze out a score at the end to win, and missed the extra point(s) which would have sent this to overtime. If your post had been that Webb was the best team that night, or that you believe that Webb was the better team, I would not have even addressed the above, but I believe perhaps you inadvertently indicated that Webb was by far the superior team and that somehow CAK managed some lucky late scores to make a game of it. This was simply not the case. This was a competitive game from start to finish and literally could have gone either way. Regarding the DCA / Webb game, it is all about match ups. DCA was a horrible match up against CAK's aerial attack. Had we been a running team, AND had they had their 235 lb 3 year starter at MLB who was out for the game, the outcome may have been very different. Webb MAY be a better match up for DCA for this reason. On the other hand, if DCA does not have enough speed to deal with Webb's speed, OR DCA cannot stop those speedsters before they get through the front 7-8, it will be a Webb blow out IMO. But I believe DCA has a chance in this game IF they can do one of those two things, and force Webb to sustain long TD drives. Having said that, no one runs the Wing T with the precision that Webb does. DCA will have to bring their A game, and they need their starters all back on the field to make it competitive. Just my opinions, your mileage may vary.
  18. If you are only going to take away one thing from a thread, you sir, got the most important information. Not being one for dessert, I have to say the burgers at CAK are not surpassed by anyone. Back in the day, Alcoa had the best band burgers anywhere, but with a change in suppliers, CAK now has better burgers. Alcoa on the other hand has great fries which we do not, and CAK has great banana pudding! I need to stop. I'm getting hungry! And I haven't even gotten into the Bread of Heaven days! Those were some of the best eats ever! But for stadium food, you can't do much better than the above (although Webb has a mean chicken sandwich, darn it. I don't want to like Webb for anything but have to give credit where credit is due... and Boyd Buchanan has tremendous overall selection) I make it my mission to sample every concession stand I visit that may have a contender...
  19. CAK steps up to play a much larger school. While Clinton is not at their strongest, and CAK may not be either, Clinton is a MUCH larger school. How does this one turn out?
  20. I can honestly say that I am so glad I never have to see Arkel Coleman (sp?) again. That guy was a beast! Literally scared me every time he touched the ball.
  21. Wish I could be at this game! It will be really interesting how this plays out....I think it is asking a lot for USJ to come out on top this soon, especially with this being Milan's best team in years, but the interesting thing about it is that as good as Milan is, they haven't faced this offense yet. As I've said before, not necessarily better or worse, but definitely different, particularly in the details. I could see a scenario where Milan is just too much. But I could also see a scenario where Milan trounces everyone on their schedule and yet can't win this game because it forces them to do some things that won't be the norm of what they see. On the other side, can USJ stop the power attack of Milan? Going to be a fun one to see how it turns out.
  22. Sir, you are just off base here. Because of their tax status, the public has a right to know his salary. It has been exposed right here on CoachT. The vast majority feel like there is nothing to see here. Ensworth can do as they wish, they are completely within the law, and within the rules of the TSSAA. If someone doesn't like that he is paid that much, that's just life. I may congratulate him and the school for being able to afford such a successful person, while another may despise both for the very same reasons. Regardless, you and I don't get to decide. Ensworth and Coach Bowers are legal both from a law and TSSAA rule stand point. If I'm missing something and they are not, please explain. Otherwise, this is just envy and sour grapes.
