  1. I read the article in the Maryville Times on-line edition this morning and was wondering how long it would take for this to come up. In Coach Woods' defense this quote was taken "way out of context." Although I hate that defense when people have unflattering quotes attributed to them in this case it is true. 1. He was quoted as saying this in response to a question from the Citizen's Tribune sportswriter, he was never interviewed by anyone from the MDT. 2. The question was something along these lines: you seemed to dominate the 1st half but only lead 7-0 at halftime and had several missed opportunities including a fumble on the 1 yd line, did that concern you: Response (summarized not word for word): Yes it did because I don't think the score (7-0) indicated how much we dominated them and it worried me that we didn't have a bigger lead going into the 3rd quarter. 3. I can tell you this is all factual because I was standing about 5 feet away when this interview took place. I can assure you (as I have said many times before on this site) that everyone associated with Mo. West has nothing but respect and admiration for Maryville and their program. BTW, this same paper in an article last spring referred to the MW win in the semi-finals as a :"fluke." Not real professional in my opinion. I hope both teams play hard tonight and come out injury-free. I also hope that RR, STARS, DMoyers, FBE and the rest of the Maryville fans and students have a safe trip to and from Morristown in the bad weather.
  2. Pepvol, I don't see Morristown West getting their own field anytime soon. 2 big factors limit this possibility. One is that there is no space at the High School to build a stadium, so it would have to be built somewhere else which defeats the purpose in many people's minds. Second county politics here (like other places), probably won't let it happen. The County Comission just gave the school system like 800,000 dollars less than they asked for this year, so if we can't afford new textbooks, I don't see a new stadium coming anytime soon.
  3. My advice to Morristown West players would be to avoid engaging in any trash talking on this site or anywhere else. It serves no purpose and only makes both sides look bad. Just practice and prepare hard next week show up on Friday and do your best, that's all any of us can expect! Good luck Trojans!
  4. FBEmeritus, It seems the people at Morristown West can't make you happy. We moved the game last year so the field would be better to play on. Trust me the quarterback club worked on it for about 8-12 hours before hand and it was about 1,000 times better than it would have been on Friday night, yet you still complain. Then you say we are going to be watering the field tonight. That wouldn't do us much good due to the fact that Morristown East is playing a home game on Friday and we are on the road. I hope one day we will be able to appease you.
  5. So the boys in Knoxville turned on the sprinkler's did they? I thought they would be too sophisticated for that. I guess Crash Davis is their new AD!
  6. Maryville is going to be 4A, just get over it.
  7. STARS, I would have to say that GQ not being at the scrimmage had a great deal to do with the outcome. When the boss is away people don't always perform their best.
  8. Morristown West 1's 5 TD's to William Blount's 3 TD's. West's 2's and 3's hardly ever do well in scrimmage's the coaches are just trying to identify who can run the base plays and defense's they aren't trying to "win." WB will have a good team this year. Meadows and his staff do a good job, especially on offense. People better not underestimate Morristown West.
  9. Coach Quarles record speaks for itself, but I have been even more impressed with how he has handled some of the disciplinary issues with his teams the last few years. As an outsider looking in, it seems that he cares about his kids very much and they are the most important thing to him and his staff. I am also glad that the NFL is doing something like this. They need to be helping high school football and its coaches.
  10. Hey WHTF2007 do everyone from Morristown West a favor and stop the trash talk to Maryville, Jeff County and everybody else for that matter. The team and coaches have more than they can say grace over getting ready for Swain County on August the 20th. I don't mind you being proud of the team just please don't be arrogant especially about stuff that occurred in the past.
  11. Of course all of this is speculation, but I anticipate that Maryville will stay in 4A. Also it has been beaten to death in this thread, but for my 2 cents, after watching Maryville play MOWest 6 times in the last 2 years I don't think they would have any trouble being a very competetive 5A team.
  12. I saw them scrimmage MoWest in the spring, and I have never seen a team furthur along in terms of execution in the Spring. They are very talented and extremely well coached. If they stay healthy and can survive the weight of enormous expectations then they should win 5A this year.
  13. Cade Thompson is a legit D1 player. He has the size, arm strength, intelligence and toughness to play at that level. UT should recruit him, but I guess they would rather have someone that is going to transfer if they don't start as a freshman.
  14. This is a very interesting topic indeed. Has anyone from the BOE suggested a deadline for when this position should be filled? Everyday that it is not filled only hurts the program.
  15. I think that having Coach Meadows back in Blount County and bringing a lot of excitement to WB has also heated up this rivalry.

    new z plan

Dude don't sound so cocky. Morristown West scheduled some tough teams out of conference last year and lost 4 games. One win over Maryville doesn't make them world beaters just yet.
  17. I know that this post it only on here to start trouble, but I don't think Anderson County would want to scrimmage a team that is in there region (Scott County), or would get much out of scrimmaging a 1A team.
  18. That seems pretty close to crossing the line of "recruiting" there EastFan.
  19. Another problem with the Z-plan is that you could very easily have 5A, and 4A teams qualifying for the play-offs by playing 4A and 3A schedules based on "geography." You can debate all day long whether or not this is fair, but I honestly think it will hinder these larger schools when they get in the play-offs and have to play schools with the same numbers.
  20. 1) "Took an already winning program"......Good point thecatlicksahola, Murvul was hotter than a $4 dollar pistol the first 4 games in 2000, at 0-4. Ol' GQ took tha Rebs to tha' "Murf'" that year only time ever in the history of the TSSAA a team started 0-4, won 11 in a row and a gold ball. 2) "Players secretly hate him"........They sure do. That's why they have such a small squad. Last count ,I believe there is something like 145 in the program. I wished the players hated him more, like Vince Lombardi's players hated him. 3) "Has a huge discipline problem.".......Yeah, but if that gets too huge they don't play anymore. I wanted all those discipline problems play at Central last year, but they didn't. I also wanted to see an all-state RB play his senior season at MHS. GQ has lost control. I know more than GQ. But he is still 63-9, with 3 gold footballs. 825 Lawrence. Go Rebs. I agree good post Stars. Anyone that could but together a list of the top 5 coaches in East Tennessee and not include George Quarles is either; jealous, dosen't know much about High School football, or is kidding. Regardless of the reason they should just be ignored.
  21. Hey JC4Life, Who are the Patroits? and where do you want them to go?
  22. I don't know how Morristown West will do this year. I think a lot of it will have to do with how hungry some of these young players are and how hard they work in the weight room and Spring Practice. They did lose a lot of starters from last years team but after 2001 they lost 16 starters including 1 of the best tailbacks in the State and made it back to the semi's in 2002, so I don't think they will be terrible. As for next year's game with Maryville (can't believe we are already talking about this) the only thing I can guarantee about the Trojans is that at 7:30 you won't have to look hard to find them and they will play as hard as they can.
  23. for the 900th time Coach T Junkie is NOT a Morristown West fan. He simply hates Maryville. He has jumped on our bandwagon because we were fortunate enough to win last year. So for all you Maryville; people don't blame Morristown West fans for his attitude.
  24. FBEmeritus man you are bitter. Let it go man! Are you still blaming Maryville's loss on playing a football game on a beautiful Saturday afternoon?
  25. Yeah everything Morristown West has accomplished in the past few years can be attributed to luck. They need to change their nickname to the Fighting Irish or something. Maybe they can get lucky again next year.
