    Region 7

While the new rankings aren't posted just yet, they have been submitted and I can say that Pegram is indeed the #1 ranked wrestler at 215.
  2. The occassional double post doesn't hurt anyone. Hard to have time to read everything that gets put on here really. At least you try to get good information out to the community... I would never chastise someone for that /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> .
  3. Agreed it is a nice article. It was posted here yesterday and has a few replies under just a little ways down the page. Very proud of the local boy and looking forward to cheering for him at the NCAA's. Hoping he is on the opposite side from Tannenbaum but we will see.
  4. While I agree with virtually everything you have stated there is one thing I have to disagree on... the seeding is currently none. The only way this can happen is that the seeding criteria for the TSSAA state tournament is very specific and according to the TSSAA must be followed directly. This was one of their big concerns in letting the DII coaches seed the tournament. The coaches can change the seeding criteria for the next year but have to use what is currently in place eash year. Because of this there really isn't much speculation, at least when it comes to the top guys. You can find the criteria in the wrestling handbook on the TSSAA website. Copying directly from there: To look at the top 6 at 112 since that is what is being discussed currently: 1) Daniel Baucke - He has defeated everyone he wrestled so nobody can claim criteria 1 to be seeded above him. This moves you to criteria 2 where he has the edge unless the 112 champion (or higher) from last year were to come to 112. 2) Michael Hooker - Holds a head-to-head win over last years 103 runner-up Alex Manley. 3) Alex Manley - Only head-to-head lose in DII is to Michael Hooker. He claims seed above all others in the weight by being a returning state runner-up. 4) Anthony Simpson - Returning 4th palce medalist at this weight with no head-to-head losses that I am aware of to anyone in DII. Only thing that could change this is Criteria three if someone else in DII has beaten someone Simpson lost to. I am unaware of this having occurred. At this point it starts getting a little more open as there are no other wrestlers with direct seeding criteria based on medals. From here it probably depends on whether a coach wants to have his kid seeded or wants to try luck with the random draw. I woudl thinkit goes like this: 5) Thomas Garbarino - Only DII lose I am aware of is to Simpson. So nobody left has criteria 1 over him and he may have it over some others. Criteria 2 - does not apply to anyone left. Criteria 3 not aware of anything that would give someone a spot over him. Both he and Dupree lost 3 point decisions to Simpson so neither gets a common opponent advantage there. Criteria 4 does not apply to anyone left. Criteria 5 - He has an edge on Dupree as Garbarino finished 6th at Father Ryan at 112 and Dupree finished 7th or 8th (don't know the exact result there). However, depending on Dupree's result with Adam Blair of Benjamin Russell it could give Dupree the edge. Garbarino decisioned Russell 7-0 in the consolation quarter finals of the Father Ryan Invitational. If Dupree won the 7th / 8th place match by fall, tech, or major over Blair it gives him criteria 3 over Dupree. If he only won it by decision or he lost in any fashion then Garbarino takes an edge on criteria 3 and criteria 5. 6) Zeno Dupree - Only DII loses are to Hooker, Simpson, and Baucke so nobody else has criteria 1 over him and he does have it over some others in DII. See the rest of the notes on Garbarino for the rest of the situation. As you can see coaches having good and accurate notes and results for the state seeding meeting can be important if they really want to look at criteria #3. Now that all of that is said back to the original point. The seeding as it is currently is fairly well known (definitely cut and dry for the top 4 I would say). However, you still have state duals to give an opportunity for kids to shake things up.
  5. Just thought I would share this with the rest of the TN wrestling community. Just another thing to discuss besides state duals. COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri sophomore Nicholas Marable (Collierville, Tenn.) was named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week as announced today by the league office. The first Big 12 honor for the 165 pound grappler, this marks the second conference nod to a Tiger wrestlers this season. Sophomore Maxwell Askren, Missouri's 197 pounder, was named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 14. Ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation at 165 pounds, Marable defeated fourth-ranked Mack Lewnes, 3-2, in Missouri's Sunday afternoon home dual against No. 16 Cornell. Helping the Tigers to a 21-13 victory over the Big Red, Marable's victory was his eighth this season against a top-20 ranked opponent and second against a top five wrestler. This marked the third straight week that Marable wrestled a top-five grappler. Marable improved to 17-3 on the season after holding Lewnes to only two escapes. Scoring the only takedown of the match 1:30 into the first period, Marable managed an escape in the second after choosing down. Marable has not given up a takedown in six straight matches. All three of Marable's losses this season have come to No. 1 ranked opponents; then No. 1 Eric Tannenbaum of Michigan (7-4), No. 1 Keith Gavin of Pittsburgh at 174 pounds (7-3) and most recently to No. 1 ranked Mark Perry of Iowa (3-2 in overtime). Missouri becomes the third school in the Big 12 Conference to earn the weekly honor twice this season. Nebraska and Iowa State have also had two wrestlers awarded for their work on the mat. Missouri's second nod of the season ties the second highest number of league honorees, the highest, three coming last season when Ben Askren, Josh Wagner and Max Askren were recognized. The Tigers will return to Big 12 action this Saturday, Feb. 2 when they take on the No. 2 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers at 7 p.m. (CT) in Lincoln. Missouri, 7-2-1, is currently 0-0-1 in Big 12 meetings.
  6. Looks like the CBHS / McCallie match isn't scheduled until 7:00 so that should give most of us plenty of time to get on out and see this one. I know I am glad it isn't the 5:00 match because you never know what will transpire to keep you in the office and not enjoying wrestling!
  7. Yeah I wasn't really sure how I was being called out on that one anymore. Not really sure if that "JV" league was targeted at DII, if we were box scores tell all that needs to be told. But then again as we all know you need a decoder ring to read any of usfjim's posts. Heck I wasn't even sure he still watched wrestling, haven't seen him since the big rumble at the ranch.
  8. Exactly as I expected for the DII tournament. Should be very interesting.
  9. According to the scores posted he lost to Max Jarrell of MBA 4-2 on Saturday night.
  10. Correct me if I am wrong but the only meeting I am aware of between the two was a 4-2 win for Chaz Griffith at the McCallie Invitational. I am assuming that is the match-up you were referring to.
  11. If either team has been contemplating making any line-up shifts I seriously doubt they would show their hand before state duals. Especially with this match appearing not to be as close as in previous years.
  12. That is quite possible. I think the only thing that really isn't known is the 4/5 spot from the Middle / East Region. Right now it should look about like this: West Region: 1) CBHS 2) St. Benedict 3) MUS Middle/East Region: 1) Baylor 2) Father Ryan 3) Brentwood Academy 4) MBA / McCallie 5) MBA / McCallie
  13. Based on what I have seen it is likely to be Brentwood Academy.
  14. I for one have really enjoyed being able to have a conversation at tournaments with Patrick on more than one occassion this year. I pray that I will be afforded that same luxury in the future.
  15. It is kind of funny how we started getting all of that information after the rankings went out /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />.
  16. theman, Well I am glad that at least someone is reading the rankings. Contrary to what you may think there is a method to my madness. It all really comes down to a matter of respect for the wrestler(s) that may or may not be out injured. Any time a ranked wrestler drops out of the line-up (whether injury or other reason) I try and give them approximately a month of inactivity before they are dropped from the rankings. Typically the only time I will deviate from that plan is if I hear from the wrestler or his coach and am asked to remove him. An example of this comes from the newest set of rankings: 125 Matt Brewer of Father Ryan. The last time I can find a record of him competing was at the McCallie Invitational which occurred December 14th and 15th. Oddly enough you will see the note in the 125 rankings this week where he was removed (the current rankings covered January 13th-19th). I believe you will find that I took a fairly similar approach with both of the Shufford brothers from Baylor as well. The only time you will tend to find me deviate from this is if a teammate moves in to that wrestlers spot and the results or other information indicates that this is a line-up change and the first wrestler is not expected to reclaim that spot. Now, to touch on the specific instance you brought up: the last time Peter Bonilla competed was December 29th according to the results CBHS published. If Peter Bonilla has not competed by this weekend it is my intention to remove him from the rankings. Whether you take my rankings seriously or not doesn't change the fact that I do. By taking this approach I am able to elminate using any inside information I have, whether it be from St. Benedict when I was there or CBHS now. I don't think any coaching staff would want someone spilling the personal happenings inside the wrestling and locker room just because that person with access does the rankings. I am pretty sure both Coach Hamm and Coach Bray will back me up on that one. Now notice that I still haven't needed to say anything about the condition of any of the athletes mentioned. If that time of information is to become public it is up to that wrestler, their family, and coach. Hopefully now you better understand the logic behind my rankings.
  17. The new MatMan rankings are up at the TWF website. Check the link below to get there: http://www.tennwrestling.com/rankingscurrent.html I would personally like to thank everyone that sent in results over the past week. Without your help the rankings would be much more difficult. If there is anything missing from the rankings feel free to let us know via the e-mails listed at the top of the rankings. I know I am missing the results of St. Benedict vs Brentwood Academy and Brentwood Academy vs MBA so those dual results were not factored in unless I was told of specific matches.
  18. I was indeed there. And Germantown did it because they flat out matched up well with the team Brentwood Academy brought down that day. I have said it and heard it said many times, duals come down to match-ups. Maybe next time you can make it on out /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />.
  19. Based on what you have there I am showing the following, question marks indicate where I am unsure of who wrestled or scores and am making guesses: 112 - Dupree (BA) pin Anderson (?) - 6-0 BA 119 - Brannon (BA) dec Simpson 8-7(?) - 9-0 BA 125 - Francis (MBA) pin Burgin (?) - 9-6 BA 130 - Lundborg (BA) pin Donlon (?) - 15-6 BA 135 - Moore (BA) pin Hunt (?) - 21-6 BA 140 - Bellett (?) (MBA) dec Proctor (?) - 27-15 BA 171 - Jarrell (MBA) dec Tate ?-? - 27-18 BA 189 - Brasher (BA) dec McQuiddy ?-? - 30-18 BA 215 - Tuani (BA) wins by forfeit - 36-18 BA 285 - Carrethers (BA) pin Browner - 42-18 BA 103 - Calloway (BA) pin Herron - 48-18 BA Can anyone confirm participants and/or scores?
  20. No, actually it was Brentwood Academy.
  21. start sarcasm See they do exist! end Sarcasm Thank you
  22. No scouting report necessary. I have seen the Father Ryan boys (since that is who you seemed to call out) this season (Father Ryan Invitational, I was in my flowered shirt too) and many of them for several years now. Not to mention we couldn't come up since we were wrestling MUS and Briarcrest that night and I was helping to coach youth practice. Sadly I can't attend the Father Ryan / MBA dual either as I will be in MO for the Misouri Natinoal Challenge with several of our youth program kids. Then headed to Illinois on Sunday for another tournament. It's a fun time now that we get to travel a little more. However, if you would be so kind as to go ahead and forward over your scouting report from the FR / MBA match that would be greatly appreciated /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> . In all seriousness though, if you aren't aware I do the DII rankings for the MatMan (TWF) rankings. Kind of difficult to do those and be close to accurate without results now isn't it...
  23. Try refreshing your browser. Your computer may be pulling the page from its history file rather than refreshing it. They are definitely there.
  24. Now we are getting somewhere. Now how about putting some names in. I don't want to guess on any as we all know line-ups were shifted, kids could have been out sick, etc. Possible ranking implications and such here.
  25. Just wanted to let everyone know that the current MatMan rankings have been posted over on the TWF site. Follow the link below to give them a look: http://www.tennwrestling.com/rankingscurrent.html The most recent coach's poll is also included.
