  1. Boykin is into the finals and King's rematch with Merola about to be up.
  2. King with another win and now gauranteed a top 6 finish. Rematch with Merola of NJ who put him into the consolations is up next.
  3. Clutch there at the end to pull out the win for Michael Murphy. He finishes 7th in the nation in Junior Greco-Roman at 138 lbs. Couldn't get much going for most of the match but doesn't stop wrestling and gets it done!
  4. You are right, I forgot about Navarro making a good run in his bracket.
  5. Michael Mirphy has placed and will wrestle for 7th at 138 a little later today. Chris Debien fell one match short of placing at 132.

CBHS will be sending: Tommy Brackett Trevor Brown Drew Nicholson Tanner Tidswell Bryce Wittman
  7. Kids have been wrestling very hard. They just gave Colorado a very good match, CO locked it up with one bout to go. Some very good matches throughout but biggest individual win I have seen so far is probably Brackett over CA's Mantanona. Mantanona is a CA state placed who was in the UWW Cadet GR finals and is ranked in both the weightclass and sophomore grade by FloWrestling. Michael Murphy has looked good in both matches I have seen him wrestle. Several of the kids are wrestling really well even in their losses. The team now has MN 2 for 5th in the pool, which I would think is a winnable match on paper but MN always tough and well-caoched in GR.
  8. Anyone wanting to wrestle can always make the trip down to Memphis for the Pat Nailen Classic. It looks like there is a good contingent from Blackman making the trip down already.
  9. From the sign-up list on TrackWrestling it looks like there will be several state placers and at least one state champion in the tournament. Hopefully the numbers continue to grow but I know registration ends soon. There are still a few names I am expecting to compete that haven't registered yet.
  10. Frank, The website that things should be posted on is below. I also don't see anything updated as of yet. I have sent a note over to Mike to see what the status of a publishable schedule is. http://www.tnusawrestling.com/
  11. It is a TSSAA rule. No time to look it up for a direct quote right now but if I remember correctly the stipulations for 8th graders to compete on the varsity level is that 1) the schools must be on the same campus and 2) that the schools must roll-up underneath the same headmaster / principal / etc. Essentially I believe the same eligibility rules would govern their ability to practice together. The TNAAU has no stipulations regarding 8th graders competing on the varsity level and their eligibility for the state tournament.
  12. Clearly not something they are interested in or worried about if they are scheduling it the same weekend as the Cadet Duals. Hopefully TN's best younger kids are getting involved with the Cadet team and making the trip up to PA this year. In my opinion, there really isn't a better way to see some of the top competition that the nation has to offer. The national duals tournaments are cost effective and the kids that go get a ton of quality matches. There are a lot of benefits to focusing on freestyle and Greco-Roman at the completion of the folkstyle season. Of course it is just my opinion but I think there are skills learned / reinforced through freestyle and Greco-Roman that are extremely important in folkstyle wrestling. Not to mention that I think it helps in avoiding burnout as the change in styles keeps things fresh for the kids. Personally, I just find the styles fun, especially with the newer rule sets we currently have.
  13. Cole Holloway has been through quite the interesting wrestling career at this point... he was the DII 103 state champ in 2011. From what is shown in trackwrestling his only matches were this past weekend where he went 5-1 (not sure how he got 6 varsity matches so assuming something is mislabeled).
  14. Sorry BCB but I think my long post days are behind me. I do think the match is tomorrow night with wrestling starting at 5:30 Eastern per another post on here.
  15. Assuming that Simpson stays down at 126 and King stays down at 132 then I would think the most likely person to go 138 for Father Ryan would be Daniel Wesley. Wesley started for them out at Powerade at that weight when King did not wrestle (where he was slated to be 132).
  16. The McCallie kid at 138 (Ethan Dendy) wouldn't be a factor if they are discussing the Baylor vs Father Ryan dual meet which is what I think this post was meant to discuss.
  17. It would have been interesting to see where Baylor stacked up with a full team. I wasnt really familiar with this tournament so I looked it up. It appears its growing into one of the tougher tournaments. There are 40 teams with # 6 Archer , # 7 Stillwater Ok, #24 Bettendorf Ia, #29 Neosho Mo. There are over 40 state champions per their website. I hate you are without some of your guys. Keep us posted youthcoach. Typically I would say that the KC tournament (under it's various names) has had between 4 and 7 national Top 40 teams in any given year. Most weights will have at least 1-2 wrestlers ranked in the top 20 (the top couple of heavier weights excluded because the top talent at those weights is often not consolidated with the top teams... that is a whole other discussion on the importance of coaching vs raw athletic gifts in the lower / middle weights vs the upper weights). Most years you will see a couple of weights with 5-6 national top 20 wrestlers in them and the average weights having 1-2.
  18. In 2012 CBHS finished 12th. If I remember correctly that is the year Kaleb Baker couldn't wrestle due to concussion after winning it the previous year. His points would have likely moved them up a few slots. In 2011 CBHS finished 6th. That year I belive CBHS finished ahead of 1 or 2 teams that were also in Intermat's Top 40. A few weeks later CBHS beat the team that finished 3rd in a dual tournament. In 2010 CBHS went to Hawaii. In 2009 CBHS finished 8th. Keeping things in perspective: we have had kids like Tate Robinson and Elijah Oliver finishing between 5th and 7th most years. At the same time kids like Daniel Baucke and Kaleb Baker have won it and kids like Alex Johnson and Barrett Walthall have finished as high as 3rd. That tournament can be extremely tough and you can't have an off match anywhere in there.
  19. Mike, Enjoy the tournament in KC... it is a great one but is an absolute grind for the kids. There will definitely be a lot of very good wrestlers there this year. I love attending and look forward to CBHS heading back in the next few years. Hopefully you guys do well. Back on the rankings topic... still a lot of kids in the wrong weights and matches that were just clearly missed when putting the rankings together. If you are going to do these it is going to take a lot of time... particularly if you are going to do both divisions together... that just amplifies the work. Good luck... the time commitment involved is why I no longer publish my DII rankings.
  20. Soms, You do realize that the article you linked is actually about Woodland, CA and not Woodland, GA right?
  21. Kaleb is currently being a college student although I have heard that his competitive drive may be coming back around after a little time away. Time will tell. Yes he was one of the best I have seen. Worked extremely hard and had a lot of passion for it.
  22. CBHS has not attended in several years.
  23. Anywhere we can find brackets or at least a full list of results?
  24. Nope, out to dinner but I wasn't aware that they would stream the match. Should have known they would given Cleveland's history.
