  1. Hampton picked up 2 big wins on Friday & Saturday. They went to NG on Friday and played half the game without Weddle and still found a way to win 42-41. She actually fouled out with them trailing by 8 with 6 min left in the game and then last night they played GREAT in the first half and hung on to beat Unicoi Co. 55-47. The Lady Bulldogs were just beginning to play well before the snow hit and looks as if they may be getting it back. The snow also gave Weddle some extra time to heal and rest. I look forward to the rest of the season.
  2. Thanks sparky and congrats from the Hampton side to the Lady Cyclones. It was a great game to watch between 2 good teams. Hampton has played Cherokee 3 times, one being a scrimmage, and beaten them all 3 times. Amazing when you look at what Cherokee has and last night with Weddle only playing limited minutes I was very encouraged by our effort. We still have a long ways to go but believe that the Lady Dogs will be playing their best at the right time. Congrats and good luck to both teams!
  3. Hampton is in the tournament at Boone. Unaka & Cloudland make their annual trips to Harriman for 3 games. Unicoi Co. is playing in the Greene Co. Bank Tournament and play Mt. Juliet I think. That is the tournament the Lady Cyclones should have gotten in if they were looking for a challenge. I don't think that Happy Valley is playing anywhere and I'm not sure about Johnson Co. Merry Christmas to all in the Tri-County area.
  4. Watched the Dogs tonight against Harriman and that is the best I have seen them play in a long time. They beat a good Harriman team 87-62. IF they continue to play with that effort, with that unselfish team play they could be hard to handle down the road. I left the game impressed because I know that they are missing two of the players that they depend on. Tonight's game shows that they can play with the speed and athleticism i always envisioned them doing. Their pressure defense was there the whole game. Good job players and coaches. Keep up the good work.
  5. As usual coachh you are pretty much spot on. I got to watch 2 of the Tri-County 7 teams tonite at Hampton. Happy Valley beat Rockwood 66-36 and Hampton beat Harriman 56-23...BOTH games could have been worse if the coaches had wanted to do that but to their credit they did not. Happy Valley played hard and frustrated Rockwood with their presses while Hampton did the same to Harriman, who had 2 post players in the 6'1-6'2 range. Seems Hampton has gone back to what they do best and their halfcourt defense kept Harriman from getting into their high/low post game. Not bad for a 2 week lay-off but I knew that CLT was putting their practice time to good use. The teams swap opponents on Saturday with Happy Valley playing Harriman and Hampton taking on Rockwood.
  6. I agree coachh that Eliz does have a big test with Greeneville but I am looking at it from a different angle. Greeneville has already lost 2 games to AA teams with one of them a 72-38 defeat at the hands of LA. Neither Greeneville or SG is the team that they have been so EHS is a BIG favorite over both. Sometimes it is different being the "hunted" rather than the "hunter". With lots of talent/publicity comes lots of expectations. Should be interesting to see how all this plays out.
  7. After seeing all the teams I can now rank them. 1. Elizabethton 2. Unicoi Co. 3. Cloudland 4. Happy Valley 5. Unaka 6. Johnson Co. 7. Hampton Elizabethton is above the others. If they come to play forget it. Unicoi Co. is the closest to them but I don't really think they can hang wit the Lady Cyclones. I am going to try to go watch when they play each other just to see if the Lady Blue Devils attempt to press. I don't think that would be in their best interest but what do I know. Cloudland hasn't played anyone but atleast they are playing together and playing hard. Happy Valley will continue to improve as the season progresses and Coach Goulds is doing a great job with them. Unaka is limited in what they can do but if transfer becomes eligible they could move up. Johnson Co. doesn't have any scorers but they play hard despite getting continually pounded. That in itself is a big compliment to Coach Whitt. Hampton, to me obviously, is a HUGE disappointment. I had high hopes for this team but they have some major issues. I am ranking them on performance, not talent or potential. They have played a rugged early schedule, with all the games on the road, but that is no excuse for what I witnessed at UC and Eliz this past week. To me it seems some could care less. I am sure that LT will do whatever it takes, I'm just not sure the players will respond. Still early yet but you can't just turn things on and off when you want to. Just my take.......opinions?
  8. Watched Hampton win. Actually the second time they've beaten Cherokee in 2 1/2 weeks, other was a scrimmage in a playday @ North Greene. Cherokee might be the biggest team I've ever seen.
  9. I don't have a dog in this race but I saw the game yesterday. Elizabethton beat Volunteer 64-49 and it was a 5-6 point game the whole game till the last 4 minutes. Falcons played well. What is not known about Tennessee High is that they were plating despite 3-4 key players having "walking pheumonia". They didnt play well against Elizabethton and Elizabethton played well and shot extremely well.
  10. I don't have a dog in this race but I saw the game yesterday. Elizabethton beat Volunteer 64-49 and it was a 5-6 point game the whole game till the last 4 minutes. Falcons played well. 11. Elizabethton is very good. Anyone who beats them will have to play well. Don't see them getting any better though, probably because they have practiced 'nonstop' as opposed to starting on Nov. 1 as the RULES state. I wouldn't worry too much about Hampton right now. I watched them Fri & Sat, was pretty bad both games. Lots of potential there but they are a LONG ways from getting there. As for Unicoi, I heard they only had 10 girls in the whole program. What's up with that ? Doesn't bode well for the future which is after next season.
  12. I seriously doubt that Volunteer is the team to beat. I just witnessed them losing to Hampton. That wouldnt be so bad had Hampton not played their JV the whole first half of the game (down 15 pts) and then putting the Varsity in the second half and winning by 15. Hope they have more than they showed.
  13. Richland was down 28-4 at the half to Hampton and only "made it a game" because Hampton played their JV's most of the second half, and it was Hampton's third game. I did like the two guards from Richland. All that speed wasted by running a controlled, restrictive offense like the flex.
  14. I don't know the score but North Greene beat RBS and I heard that Hampton beat Cornersville, Forrest and Richland. Anyone have any more scores or details?
  15. Just heard that Hampton's girls will be playing Cornersville, Forrest & Richland with all 3 games being at Cornersville. Any thoughts? Would like to know what the Lady Dogs are going to be facing.
  16. I would love to see Hampton get to play the best "A" teams from the mid-state area. Who would that be? Forrest, RBS, Cornersville? Can anyone help me out on this. Will be a great early season "test" no doubt and show the teams what they need to work/improve on.
  17. Whats up in Dogland? Have heard some disturbing things involving both players and coaches. Won't spread rumors on here but things will definitely be interesting the rest of the season and offseason.
  18. Halftime: Hampton-9 Cosby-7
  19. I agree with you that Cornersville belongs in there. I also believe that Hampton belongs as well. Time will tell all.
  20. Lady Bulldogs beat South Point (Belmont, N.C.) 61-36 in tonights championship game. This was a rematch of last years title game. Hampton led by 10 at the half, but began the second half on a 16-0 run that essentially put the game away. I haven't seen the Lady Dogs play this well since Late last season. Last night and tonight was about as good as they can play, in my opinion, against quick, athletic and TALL teams. South Point had 2 players 6'0 and 1 player 6'2. Seems as if the problems from earlier in the season have been dealt with and the team has moved on. Proud of their effort.
  21. Watched the Lady Dogs dismantle University High 64-24, and the game wasn't even that close. I saw where UH had won 4 games and had only lost to North Greene by 10 and thought this might be a close game. The game was over after 4 minutes, that is when LT cleared the bench. I don't know if this means the Lady Dogs have fixed their 'issues' problem from earlier and are playing better, or if they have just played two really bad teams, probably a little of each. Won't find out till later in the year. That is when it matters anyway. As for the rankings I agree and it will all play out later in the season.
  22. I too agree with your rankings krich but differ about the Lady Dogs. Sure they are not playing very well right now but losing to Elizabethton, Unicoi and Science Hill is nothing to be ashamed of. They have already beaten North Greene by 9 in Greene Co. and I believe that NG was/is the team to beat.
  23. Unicoi Co.-58 Hampton-47 Was a two point game (42-40) and then Hampton began playing like they did against Eliz. LT changed the lineup tonight and hopefully sent a message to the ones that are having the issues, because it seems to have spread to every player. Last years team played hard, unselfish, TEAM basketball. This years team plays lazy, selfish, INDIVIDUAL basketball. N
  24. Whitenite I guess since "bulldawgfan" thinks since he is supports the Bulldogs financially that he has a say in what goes on, kind of like a stockholder, we seem to have alot of stockholders who think that they are John Wooden or the next coming of James Naismith. There are FIVE high schools in the county and surely those other coaches could use their help.
  25. I certainly was not talking about coaching staff dawgforlife. Just who would you like to see there if JW "did the right thing"? Part of the problem is people telling the boys how good they are and telling them how bad their coaches are. We the fans need to do our part
